I put a Limbsaver recoil pad on my Maverick 88 that kicked like a damn mule. Now its actually alright to shoot. Its a little tacky looking but hey it works and its cheaper than the SpecOps stock.
@nutnfancy I'm not what I call a novice shooter. I have both military & law enforcement background. I have over 300 rounds now through my Mossburg 590 and have had other both novice and experienced shooters fire said shotgun with this buttstock. When properly positioned, as instructed with the documentation that comes with it, none who have shot my shotgun, including me, have ever had the problems you mentioned in this video. If the stock is extended or collapsed to far that changes everything
Thank god I'm subscribed to this channel I was interested in this stock. If nutn and the crew say it sucks then Imma take their word on it, save me the 100 bucks
@4girls1bucket Are you mad he disagreed with your moronic non self experience founded opinion? Are you upset that you are not as sucessful as him? What is it? cause those are the only two excuses i can find for this moronic statement of yours.
Have you had a chance to test out the knoxx specops gen 2 stock? It's suppose to be new and improved and they supposedly worked out the kinks with the rise from the recoil. I am interested in purchasing the gen 2 but if its the same as the gen 1 that you proved sucked ass I don't want it. Please let me know if you have tested it out or if any of your friends have. Thanks in advance.
@Blemo23 The stock itself is fine, it doesnt have the recoil absorbey thingy like the blackhawk one.
The only problem with a pistol grip stock on a mossberg is using the safety, the tang mounted safety on the mossbergs is practically impossible to use with a pistol grip stock
Mouse pad plus super-glue. Carve up a mouse pad or a piece of neoprene (think wet-suit) to match the are of the stock where your cheek contacts it, then bond it to the stock.
If it broke don't you think that may have been why it was slapping you in the cheek so bad? I really like mine and i do think it improves my ability to control the shotgun. Also it lets me shoot all day long without putting such a hurtin on my shoulder.
I've had this stock for six months and can say that after shooting hundreds of rounds with it that it has performed perfectly it does a great job of reducing recoil especially with low brass shells. all I can say for this guy is to man up!
Thank you Lt Col Nutnfancy! I was considering getting this stock for my wife to make 12 Ga more enjoyable for her -- glad I didn't waste the money. Another great review!
NutnFancy, well your are one of the best reviewers out there. But you got this one wrong. Did you call BlackHawk , I did. And they fixed it over the phone. I also had "check slap". You need to condition stock before you use it. Call them and they'll explain. But mainly all you need to do is put a little rem oil on ramp. And Mainly grab gun, put stock on floor gun pointed up. And lean on gun downward until you feel stock jump like a "pogo stick". Once i did this i was like wow. Okay now it works.
Didn't take time to read every comment to see if it was mentioned, buuuut.. I have the add-on powerpak system or whatever it's called these days that was made to go with the knoxx stock. I had to purchase mine after owning the stock about a year..I did notice the cheek problem after shooting 00 buck all day, not a super big problem but noticeable after shooting all day. The powerpak system completely fixed any problems. You should try it if the cheek problem is keeping you from liking the stock.
@nothingnessdarren Does the cheek piece elevate your face from getting slapped? I saw the cheek piece design and there's kind of like a housing for when it flies back. I'm considering it again now that you said this.
@MrGunRunning I never really had a slapping problem. My main problem was my sight picture sucked with the reflex type optic I was using on a rail because the stock sat so low. The powerpak cheek comb is about an inch give or take and gives a better line of sight. It has the 5 shot side saddle on it as well and a small storage tube type thing. But anyway, never had too much of a slap problem to start with, but I would imagine the powerpak would give a more comfortable cheekweld. I like it.
Furthermore, if you're worried about murphy's law, just glue the two together. Initially, the knoxx stock is hard to insert due to the weird insertion point and screwing pint, but you have to make sure you really tighten that sucker so that it doesn't give you cheek slap.
Oh boy... I have the Remington 870 express tactical with side saddle, along with the knoxx stock. I've used it for about 3 years now. When I first put on the stock, it was absolutely fantastic. Fast forward a year, I had major major cheek slap, which was not pleasant at all. I realized something was wrong when the pistol grip has a little bit of a 'rattle' / movement that wasn't there the first year. I re-tightened it, no cheek slap. Turns out if the tell is if the pistol grip has a bit of movem
I had a similar problem with my service rifle - H&K G3 assault rifle - the stock was also badly designed and thus smacked me in the face just the same.
So all you guys out there calling nutn a wuss, let me tell you this: it doesn't hurt badly, but it is annoying as heck!
thanks for the review nutnfancy. i guess the knoxx stock is not for everyone. i watch a few reviews on it and those who didn't like it had the same complain about it. keep the reviews coming they are really helpful.
Thank god I'm not the only one whom thinks that this thing is a pile. Full power loads are almost uncontrollable. Shoot the same loads in my friends 590A1 with stock stock no problem. The recoil spring is to soft. I went back to the Stock furniture no more control issue's.
First of all, thanks for keeping it real. I purchased this stock for my Mossberg 590, it sucked and was returned. Now fast forward to my duty/work Remington 870, same stock, but for some reason this systems worked extremely well on the work units.
I can only come to 1 of 2 conclusions:
1. The work guns have had many, many rounds through them and this may be a break-in issue.
2. There be some inconsistentcies in manufacturing and/or to much spring for the Mossberg unit.
I have the Blackhawk (non recoil reducing) Knoxx stock on my 870 tactical 12g and it serves the same purpose for a little less money...still smacks you in the face if you get your face too low. It taught me to become pretty darn accurate about a half inch off the sights though :)
Great raw review on the iffy stock. I have owned the 870 express magnum for years and when it comes to this pump simple is the key. I personally find the oem stock perfect. light and beefy.
I believe what we have here is a failure to use the product correctly. if you push your cheek waay into, yeah it will hurt. but why would you want to do that with a shotgun?? a adjustable stock on a shotgun being a bad thing is a matter of opinion. smaller guys like me have shorter lengths of pull and quick adjustability is nice.
Nutn, what's your opinion on the new Super Stoc that Colt's using to replace their CAR stocks on their newer products? Personally, it looks like a Magpul CTR/MOE rip-off, but how do you feel about this change?
@tannersowa1 You should always gear up whenever you shoot. It is important to train with your gear (yes even target shooting) so that when it comes time to use your gear, your as familiar with it as you are your gun. Your gear is an effective part of your weapons system. Take some tactical shooting classes. You'll learn the value of good gear quickly. : )
to say it only does a good job of reducing recoil is the shooter remains motionless is a foolish statment, this is still a 12 gauge. if you have such a problem with 6 position stocks why do you run them on your ARs? is a consistent cheek weld with a carbine not just as important with a shotgun? if the raised bump is hitting your cheekbone adjust your length of pull or put a pad on it. shotgunning and carbine mechanics go hand in hand if you ask me
This seemed to work fine for me on my 870 when I was in Afghanistan. Go back to your command centre in your Moms basement, cute ACU and cute chest rig you have there! Oh how I love armchair quarterbacks whos knowledge comes from video games.
@HunterKiller308 I would love to be able to try one and I'd love it if it worked great, but maybe later when I have more funds to spend I could drop I guess $75 to $100 for the knoxx, it sure seems like a good idea when I first started looking at them.
@eyeofth3b3hold3r is there a range or gun club in your area where you can rent gun for range use? they might have one you can try before deciding to buy
I have tried this stock and experienced the same problem. I am not a novice shotgun shooter. Does not work for me, but might for you. Try it for yourself and decide.
You aren't supposed to glue your cheek to it, just lightly rest it and fire it in mnore of an upright tactical position, then, you will appreciate it for what it is.
If you want less recoil go with a 20 guage. It doesnt matter how big the shell is if you cant operate the weapon effectively. i have both 12 and 20 870s and tend to use the 870 20 gauage frequently because its easy and comfortable to shoot all day.
My Knoxx stock failed at the worst possible time. Collapsed when a piece of plastic inside sheared off. The stock then shrouded the trigger on the 870 making it almost impossible to pull the trigger without pulling the stock back. I ran maybe 3000 rounds through the gun before the stock failed. It's ridiculous to market a tactical item that has plastic parts that will fail over time and put you at risk in a firefight.
OMg I just came across this video. The SAME excat thing happened to me. I thought I wasnt shouldering the gun correctly. It was KILLING my face to the level were when I was done it was swollen big time after less than 20 rounds. I thought the bone was broken. I think I might sell it.
I'm glad I seen this vid almost spent the cash to get one but now I'm looking into the Masa Tactical stock for my Rem 870 & prob put the limb saver on a carbine stock for it! Great vid! Thanks!
I have this stock on my Mossberg 590A1 and on my Remington 870 Police Magnum. I love it, the recoil reducing features are great, but yes the stock has its "limitations" i guess. For me I need it to be fully extended to make it comfortable taking away from its room clearing or cqb capabilities. However, I don't use my shotgun for longer range shots like nutnfancy does. It's my primary home defense weapon that either my girlfriend or I can use with ease and effectiveness. Keep it up nutnfancy
From a new shotgun user I have to say this stock rocks!! I never used a shotgun before. I suffer from a problem of the regular stock being too long. I could not shoulder the 590A1effectively. I bought the hogue 12 LOP stock. It helped but still I had issues. My fingers are short & I have a large chest. I still had problems reaching the trigger & handling the 590A1 effectively. And full power loads beat my shoulder to a red bruised pulp. So I tried this stock. It works.
I've been following TNP for a little over 2 years and it is rare for Nutnfancy to come out and say a piece of gear sucks. I've seen the punishment that the TNP gear goes through and all the effort that goes into POU. Everything he spells out is well thought out and tested. I won't buy this item, I might deside to shoot slugs or buck though my shot gun. A sore shoulder I can deal with but leave my cheek alone.
I like mine, but it does feel different. I picked up the optional cheek piece and makes a big difference in comfort. I definitely recommend the cheek piece.
Good vid. I was about 3 clicks away from buying this thing, but by reading some reviews, and watching this, I think that I will just get another Limb-saver recoil pad instead.
Thanks for doing the review, you just saved me $120+.
LOL at people trying to convince you that your opinion is wrong. Thank you for your unbiased review, it was loads more informational than any other review ive seen. You kept me from buying this, which im thankful for, I tried my buddys out and had the same problems. Love the channel, Keep it up man.
You're placing your face way too close to the stock. Try extending it. You're not a tactical SWAT officer breaching doors, and clearing rooms; so you don't need it collapsed so much. I have had mine for quite a while now, and shoot 200-300 shells a day, five days a week and the only time i have been slapped in the face was when it was my fault. BTW if you would have read the instructions; it would have warned you about the 'slap' and told you how to correct it. Clearly, USER ERROR!
Wish I had seen this review before I bought mine. I wasted $100, and I knew it the first time I fired my Mossberg 88 with it installed. My pistol grip spring mechanism does not seem to work at all, and the one on the stock is very stiff seems to barely move.
With the pistol grip I find a lot more energy is being transferred to my wrist. To me, that impact is even more painful than the cheek slap.
Original stock going back on. This thing is a POS. Intolerable with high brass loads.
I think automatic transmission sucks, I've been driving standards all my life and I need a pedal for my left foot so I step on the brake for clutch and it sends me through the windshield. I am not going to change my driving style and I am not going read the instructions, so I think auto sucks.
I couldn't agree with you more Nutnfancy, I just came back from training last week and got certified with our new Remington 870 that had the Knoxx stock on. I definitely felt that smack on my cheek, we were shootin buckshots and slugs, It got worse as I was quickly moving and shooting towards steel targets, I will also stick with the standard stock, great review, thanks!!!
i have the nrs version n i fuckin love it dude!!! i think yours broke because of that sling spacer. ne way mine is on an nef pardner pump. id like to mod it with a recoil sping and adjustment lug in the stock tube. it might help soak up the high end shells kick.
first off love the tnp vids, im a huge scatergun fan and i shot the knoxx stock on a mossberg 500 last week and completely agree, being about 6'9 i gota crank that stock all the way back and that thing just bites you in the face, bad flinching set in much faster, ive had an 870 home defense for years and never a problem with the factory stocks
First of all, I love Nutnfancy's videos. Most of the time I find myself nodding my head in agreement with what he is saying. But I think that he flat out got this review WRONG. He said himself that the spring came undone like the 4th or 5th shot. Well if I was using a broken stock I would imagine that it would hurt. I don't know, give a bad review based on a defective stock, that was never broken in, and not following the instructions.......... Like I said I have all kinds of respect for him.
I tried this on a Fabarm shotgun at my local shooting center and I have to completely agree, I really did not like it after 15 rounds and feeling like I got punched in the face a few times I was done, it would be fine probably for shooting door hinge's, etc just like sadlymissing stated. Lots of people shoot differently so it might work for some but not everyone, and this one is not for me. I agree with Nutn on this one hands down.
If you was to shot the stock properly; it would not give you the cheek slap. Your cheek is right on the bell end. You need to set the butt pad closer and get your cheek off the end bell.
There is no bell end on the new Generation II available in August 2011. I have used the stock for 3 years, and have never received cheek slap. I also shoot 1/2 groups at 100 yards. No scope eye, no cheek slap.
My 2 cents.. if you have a beard it will also pull on your facial hair.. Ouch!! and if you have a Mossberg ALL pistol grips make the safety hard to reach.. had this and went back to a plain stock..
@metaZen Exactly, a pistol grip on a mossy 500 makes no sense for home defense. Can't get to the safety quickly. I like to keep my HD weapon ready for use, with the exception of the safety. If the adrenalin is pumpin, I dont want to be reaching around a super cool dude pistol grip trying to get to it.
i installed this system on my 870 and i love it. no problems yet and i have put over a thousand rounds through it,from bird shot to hot loads, maybe you just got a lemon . whats one mans pleasure is another mans poison. i put this system on becouse i have two blown out sholders and severe nerve pain in my right arm from a bad fall. i could no longer hold my shot gun do to the length .and now for me i have my shot gun back at my bed side for home defence. i am to old to fight but not to shoot.
I assumed you wanted a .45acp rifle but did you mean a rifle in .45 like the Bushmaster .450 rifle, the .458 Socom, you get my point. Does it have to be 45acp or something like the above?
No, not all .45's are like that. I don't know if you shot the original full auto Thompson or the new replica semi by Auto Ordinance? Regardless, the original is very heavy, it blew my mind the first time I fired one, the replica to me is lighter than the original. Anyway, the weight tames the recoil a lot with the Thompson. So you want a .45acp long gun? What's your budget? Beretta priced, or Kriss Super V priced?
Nutfancy i need help finding a good 45cal rifle. I need something cheap but good. Also i shot a Thompson 45cal. And it kicked like my pellet gun. Are all 45cal like that. THX a bunches
right and obviously no one knew how to deploy it right, so in the end, say you dislike, not that it sucks, because unfortunately your dislike came from a lack of knowledge and instruction. Love your videos guys, and please keep em coming. In this one, I'm sorry, I had to call it like I saw it.
every which way. Practice relax and lose and I promise if you master this you will be out shooting semi's (speed and accuracy) any time or day of the week. Remember, don't fight it, let the stock do what it was designed to do, and READ any and all instructions, and if you're still not getting it seek out instruction. If so many are saying it is awesome, did you ever think, maybe I'm doing something "the wrong way?" All I saw in this video was the blind leading the blind. No one was deploying it
With the spec stock one must do the total opposite. Keep the shotgun lose and relax. I can go on with the correct ways to use the spec stock but I feel all I have to do is stop here. Look at every shooter in this video, do you see any single one of them relaxed and lose? I don't, they all pull in tight and snug which is no no 101 with a spec stock. Can you guess what will happen??? You got it, "you'll get smacked on the side of your face and it will feel like the gun is fighting you and jumping
for years to learn how to deploy the spec stock correctly. It's been a long time since I've reviewed the instructions and I don't even know if BlackHawk still writes them how Knoxx Industries did years ago. Personally, I was instructed by Knoxx the inventor of the device. The first and I'd say one of the most important things one must learn is how "not" to pull the shotgun into the pocket snug and tight, which is hard because instinct would suggest, hold snug and tight with a high recoil weapon
OMG, I had to grit my teeth to get to the end of this review. I understand doesn't fit your bill, but don't say it sucks. I've been using and training people with the Spec stock since before BlackHawk even bought the Knoxx product from Knoxx industries. The first thing I noticed was that every single user in the video held and deployed the shotgun improperly. When you said you hadn't read the instructions I wasn't surprised. Yes, it's hard to get an operator who has been using a regular stock f

Too bad that this video comes up when you look for reviews. I've had one for 3 years, 1000s of rounds shot, never had issues discussed in this video. very accurate, my check has never been sore after long days shooting. I do have the power pack with the raised cheek piece. People are different, and some things work better for certain people. Say it does not work for you, not that it sucks, because it works for me, and I shoot many different guns with many different stocks, and I like it.
i can see the point but the reason its a SF stock is b/c you don't need to be accurate with a shotgun. the only reason SF uses shotguns is for room breach. you don't necessarily have to put ur cheek up on the sights like shown on the video. but i agree that it doesn't reduce recoil.... it jus gives u a little more support when u shoot
hey nutnfancy- I received it in the mail about 2 days after viewing. I also purchased the power pack, sling swivel, and 2 point shotgun shell sling.
I purchased 100 rounds of 2 3/4 federal all purpose, 25 rounds of 3" federal black cloud steel waterfowl, and 25 rounds 3 1/2" remington. After shooting all but 2 boxes of the 2 3/4" i would agree with this vid it does hurt the cheek, but I'm going to try it w/o the powerpak cheek raise. And shoot it they way you did and see if I feel the same way.
I got this stock on my Mossburg 500 and must agree with what Nutn is saying. It rocked my cheek too. I've got a big problem selling any guns or accessories I buy for them. So what I did was attach a double layer of neoprene foam to the sliding section of the stock. For me, it works. No more pain. Watching how Nutn positions his cheek forward on the stock, this is not a solution. To each his own. Salute Nutn, for speaking your mind and telling the truth.
I can't have my cheek on my normal 870 stock while shooting anything more powerful than skeet ammo or it twists my neck horribly and feels like someone kicked me in the jaw.
Might be because i have rather poor posture with my head very far forward, every time i do previously mentioned action i end up feeling numb and broken all day.
I can shoot 3½'' loads all fuckin day as long as i don't put my head on the gun.
I find it intriguing how many, many people find the Knoxx stocks to work very well and appear to not have the "problems" that you have with it. I think it may be more of a individual thing and some people have better luck with it than you. It may be the way you hold the weapon or the way you rest your cheek on it as well. Regardless, I don't think it deserved to be told it "sucks" based on one person's review when there are countless others out there who use it and enjoy it.
@danieldefenseM4 You say that like you watched the first 30 seconds of the video and then commented. He is NOT the only one experiencing the problem. It happened over and over and over again to several people. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)
Stocks seem to be a law unto themselves. Years ago I had two Lee-Enfield rifles, a Mark III* and a No 4. You would swear the stock dimensions were identical, but one was a pussycat and the other beat the tar out of my face. After busting a tooth with it, I took the rifle to my gunsmith who shaved a tiny amount of wood from the top of the comb, and - problem solved. I sometimes think it's not you who dislikes the stock, but the other way round!
@danieldefenseM4 I also find it intriguing since mine broke the same way his did. After 3 shots, one slug and two 00BK, mine slid forward so that the grip was covering most of the trigger. It is deffinantly not any user error, not sure if you made it to that section of the video judging by your comment. My search for anything negative about this stock stoped before i made it to youtube because of the shear number of people who seem to enjoy it. Not sure what I will do with it yet.
Wait, so your testing a product that broke on the 4th or 5th round... ok so you got the lucky defective unit and you test that one!!! I expected better than that, im ruling this unfair until you shoot it after blackhawk gives you a new one
that also looks like the gen 1 vs the gen 2... and as others have posted you dont have the powerpak on either, which would make sense if you like to snug your face to the stock
great vids, but i think this one just doesnt make sense
Saved me some money nutz. Thanks didn't have to watch the whole vid either witch is a plus :p. I was thinking hard about the stock but sometimes simple and consistent is best like you said. Have a good one.
Good review. What are your thoughts on the pistol-grip version of this stock? It's called the breacher's grip or whatever. I'm considering it for a small home defense shotgun. It wouldn't be used for anything more than hallway distance so I don't need a full stock.
Thank you for your opinion this stock dose hit your cheek a little nothing that a good cheek rest could take care of how ever I did see a good amount of recoil reduced but defenatly not 85 % more like 50% I put it on my 870 rem 12 ga and run 8 rounds 00 buck 3 in mag win back to back and have 0 soreness in my shoulder my next test will be with slugs over all I like the stock and I am running the same stock as you in vid
everything I'm seeing is user error not the product I have one and this has never happened to me...So maybe its your technique not sure. But anyway did notice the side ways motion when nutn was shooting but no one else....yet again user error.
@nutnfancy how was this comment goofy? I re-read it and it still makes sense Nutnfancy wasn't using the shotgun correctly in the vid he was holding it loosly. oh I see why it was goofy now b/c i was disagreeing with nutnfancy the all mighty now it all who knows nothing?(ok so he knows a little just not as much as he would like to think.)
@nutnfancy as another commenter said, if you're used to the comblock chin weld then you won't feel that as much. Veri I would say that insulting people on the internet is the goofy thing. when you argue or respond to trolls they win ;p
@Sniper11712 like several others have said they know plenty of people that dont have the issues that he was having..sorry to offend any of his loyal servants but it sounds like user error to me... and by the way all the details you just gave are very very hard to actually distinguise in the video unless you were there in person...my comment was to "nutn" and like all of their "negative-ish" comments they blow them off without regard like he is perfect or something. He isn't, but he has nice vids!
we went to cordoba argentina, and used m2 cordobas in 20 gauge. after close to 1250 rounds (2 and 1/2 cases) and 1001 dove the second day, i felt no pain or discomfort. the m2 is a good system, i believe for light, fast and effective dove, quial, and duck solution. while not a combat, its very reliable and smooth shooting. but for a combat, i think a good pump like the 870 is to me, better than a semi, less matience and not load specific. see sierra brava lodge for a good trip to a life changer!
Those old Mose pads rubber foam. Glue it to the rearend and let it over hang the front. These pads are about .25'' thick or now you can buy a Cheek Plate made by Black Hawk which takes care of this issue. I Like it for Adjustable Length of Pull with Different Clothing/Gear on. Quicker Follow up shots are also a bonus. A response would be Great old friend:)
I notice NutnFancy is left eye dominant necessitating him to press his cheek more on the stock resulting in his cheek getting "whacked". Not so much with the other shooters.
lol you never put your check on the butt while firing a shotgun, you just don't. You'd probably be o.k with a big gel pad slip on but even then, just keep your face clear. Use a aim point sight if you wanna aim well wist keeping your jaw on.
Did anyone else notice that they had the shell holder mounted on the wrong side and in the wrong spot from the manufacturers suggested placement? Just saying?
@SergeiC1 how do you aim? lol if you can't put your cheek on the stock your not getting a proper sight alignment this stock is garbage!! Nothing wrong with a regular stock!

If the stock is extended or collapsed to far that changes everything

nutnfancy,
Have you had a chance to test out the knoxx specops gen 2 stock? It's suppose to be new and improved and they supposedly worked out the kinks with the rise from the recoil. I am interested in purchasing the gen 2 but if its the same as the gen 1 that you proved sucked ass I don't want it. Please let me know if you have tested it out or if any of your friends have. Thanks in advance.

Nutn, what do you think about the OTHER AR-style tactical stocks found on some of the special-purpose Mossbergs? (the non-aftermarket ones)
I hear that those work pretty well, unless they're the same deal as these Blackhawk Knoxx ones. Thanks Nutn!

Carve up a mouse pad or a piece of neoprene (think wet-suit) to match the are of the stock where your cheek contacts it, then bond it to the stock.
mvanandre 1 month ago
If it broke don't you think that may have been why it was slapping you in the cheek so bad? I really like mine and i do think it improves my ability to control the shotgun. Also it lets me shoot all day long without putting such a hurtin on my shoulder.
TheMOPARguy92 1 month ago

You should try it if the cheek problem is keeping you from liking the stock.
nothingnessdarren 1 month ago 2
@nothingnessdarren Does the cheek piece elevate your face from getting slapped? I saw the cheek piece design and there's kind of like a housing for when it flies back. I'm considering it again now that you said this.
MrGunRunning 1 week ago
@MrGunRunning I never really had a slapping problem. My main problem was my sight picture sucked with the reflex type optic I was using on a rail because the stock sat so low. The powerpak cheek comb is about an inch give or take and gives a better line of sight. It has the 5 shot side saddle on it as well and a small storage tube type thing. But anyway, never had too much of a slap problem to start with, but I would imagine the powerpak would give a more comfortable cheekweld. I like it.

@reverendcolin His cheek was on the stock; you seem to like this product. Why do you like it?
DanielJosephTV 1 month ago
Furthermore, if you're worried about murphy's law, just glue the two together. Initially, the knoxx stock is hard to insert due to the weird insertion point and screwing pint, but you have to make sure you really tighten that sucker so that it doesn't give you cheek slap.
sushisamurai 1 month ago
Turns out if the tell is if the pistol grip has a bit of movem
sushisamurai 1 month ago
I had a similar problem with my service rifle - H&K G3 assault rifle - the stock was also badly designed and thus smacked me in the face just the same.
So all you guys out there calling nutn a wuss, let me tell you this: it doesn't hurt badly, but it is annoying as heck!

Thank god I'm not the only one whom thinks that this thing is a pile. Full power loads are almost uncontrollable. Shoot the same loads in my friends 590A1 with stock stock no problem. The recoil spring is to soft. I went back to the Stock furniture no more control issue's.
IMRKJMSBITCH 1 month ago
First of all, thanks for keeping it real. I purchased this stock for my Mossberg 590, it sucked and was returned. Now fast forward to my duty/work Remington 870, same stock, but for some reason this systems worked extremely well on the work units.
I can only come to 1 of 2 conclusions:
1. The work guns have had many, many rounds through them and this may be a break-in issue.
2. There be some inconsistentcies in manufacturing and/or to much spring for the Mossberg unit.
Great Review!

I dislike the idea of an adjustable stock on a shotgun in the first place. Throw in a spring filled gimmick and you are just asking for a failure.

It is important to train with your gear (yes even target shooting) so that when it comes time to use your gear, your as familiar with it as you are your gun. Your gear is an effective part of your weapons system. Take some tactical shooting classes. You'll learn the value of good gear quickly. : )

to say it only does a good job of reducing recoil is the shooter remains motionless is a foolish statment, this is still a 12 gauge. if you have such a problem with 6 position stocks why do you run them on your ARs? is a consistent cheek weld with a carbine not just as important with a shotgun? if the raised bump is hitting your cheekbone adjust your length of pull or put a pad on it. shotgunning and carbine mechanics go hand in hand if you ask me
i really like my Knoxx, it works great for ME

If you want less recoil go with a 20 guage. It doesnt matter how big the shell is if you cant operate the weapon effectively. i have both 12 and 20 870s and tend to use the 870 20 gauage frequently because its easy and comfortable to shoot all day.
dorringtonchancvelew 3 months ago
My Knoxx stock failed at the worst possible time. Collapsed when a piece of plastic inside sheared off. The stock then shrouded the trigger on the 870 making it almost impossible to pull the trigger without pulling the stock back. I ran maybe 3000 rounds through the gun before the stock failed. It's ridiculous to market a tactical item that has plastic parts that will fail over time and put you at risk in a firefight.

Clearly, USER ERROR!
sfbass83 5 months ago
Wish I had seen this review before I bought mine. I wasted $100, and I knew it the first time I fired my Mossberg 88 with it installed. My pistol grip spring mechanism does not seem to work at all, and the one on the stock is very stiff seems to barely move.
With the pistol grip I find a lot more energy is being transferred to my wrist. To me, that impact is even more painful than the cheek slap.
Original stock going back on. This thing is a POS. Intolerable with high brass loads.

I assumed you wanted a .45acp rifle but did you mean a rifle in .45 like the Bushmaster .450 rifle, the .458 Socom, you get my point. Does it have to be 45acp or something like the above?
jjb51207 7 months ago
No, not all .45's are like that. I don't know if you shot the original full auto Thompson or the new replica semi by Auto Ordinance? Regardless, the original is very heavy, it blew my mind the first time I fired one, the replica to me is lighter than the original. Anyway, the weight tames the recoil a lot with the Thompson. So you want a .45acp long gun? What's your budget? Beretta priced, or Kriss Super V priced?

jjb51207 8 months ago
every which way. No one was deploying it
jjb51207 8 months ago
With the spec stock one must do the total opposite. Keep the shotgun lose and relax. I can go on with the correct ways to use the spec stock but I feel all I have to do is stop here. Look at every shooter in this video, do you see any single one of them relaxed and lose? I don't, they all pull in tight and snug which is no no 101 with a spec stock. Can you guess what will happen??? You got it, "you'll get smacked on the side of your face and it will feel like the gun is fighting you and jumping
jjb51207 8 months ago
for years to learn how to deploy the spec stock correctly.

Say it does not work for you, not that it sucks, because it works for me, and I shoot many different guns with many different stocks, and I like it.
screwyoualltohell 8 months ago
i can see the point but the reason its a SF stock is b/c you don't need to be accurate with a shotgun. the only reason SF uses shotguns is for room breach. you don't necessarily have to put ur cheek up on the sights like shown on the video. but i agree that it doesn't reduce recoil.... it jus gives u a little more support when u shoot
jugg27 8 months ago
hey nutnfancy- I received it in the mail about 2 days after viewing.

LibertiesDefender 8 months ago
I can't have my cheek on my normal 870 stock while shooting anything more powerful than skeet ammo or it twists my neck horribly and feels like someone kicked me in the jaw.
Might be because i have rather poor posture with my head very far forward, every time i do previously mentioned action i end up feeling numb and broken all day.
I can shoot 3½'' loads all fuckin day as long as i don't put my head on the gun.
Which of course makes aiming rather hard.

@nutnfancy
Keep up the good work, lads.
MSM4U2POM 7 months ago

Elkow00 8 months ago
Yes, but did you try it with the Cheekpiece that is offered by Blackhawk to fit this stock? I'd be interested to know the difference it makes.

Good review. What are your thoughts on the pistol-grip version of this stock? It's called the breacher's grip or whatever. I'm considering it for a small home defense shotgun. It wouldn't be used for anything more than hallway distance so I don't need a full stock.
Antlion1001 8 months ago
sounds like a gimck for young guys for shooting bird shot in the back 40 all day.
mrsuperterd 9 months ago

@ryster626 This comment is goofy. No offense, but look at what you said. -- Veri
nutnfancy 9 months ago 3
@nutnfancy how was this comment goofy? I re-read it and it still makes sense Nutnfancy wasn't using the shotgun correctly in the vid he was holding it loosly. oh I see why it was goofy now b/c i was disagreeing with nutnfancy the all mighty now it all who knows nothing?(ok so he knows a little just not as much as he would like to think.)
ryster626 9 months ago
@nutnfancy as another commenter said, if you're used to the comblock chin weld then you won't feel that as much. Veri I would say that insulting people on the internet is the goofy thing. when you argue or respond to trolls they win ;p

@ryster626
User error, really?Shotgun was firm in the shoulder, he pulled the trigger, round hit the target, firm cheek weld, so where was the user error?
Sniper11712 3 months ago
@Sniper11712 like several others have said they know plenty of people that dont have the issues that he was having..sorry to offend any of his loyal servants but it sounds like user error to me... and by the way all the details you just gave are very very hard to actually distinguise in the video unless you were there in person...my comment was to "nutn" and like all of their "negative-ish" comments they blow them off without regard like he is perfect or something. He isn't, but he has nice vids!

Respond to this video... Great review.

we went to cordoba argentina, and used m2 cordobas in 20 gauge. after close to 1250 rounds (2 and 1/2 cases) and 1001 dove the second day, i felt no pain or discomfort. the m2 is a good system, i believe for light, fast and effective dove, quial, and duck solution. while not a combat, its very reliable and smooth shooting. but for a combat, i think a good pump like the 870 is to me, better than a semi, less matience and not load specific. see sierra brava lodge for a good trip to a life changer!

nothin wrong with a standard 870 stock

maybe it's only for hip firing.

SADiamond1 10 months ago
Thank you for doing an honest review of this product. I hated this stock when I had it on my 870.
TheGunEnthusiast67 10 months ago
Nutn', you dont know what full power is until you shoot Fiocci 3 1/2" Turkey loads w/
2 3/8 of shot.
jefallijay 10 months ago
I have one, only use it on my 870 . No problems so far.(only shot birds with it though)
merrywanker 10 months ago
lol you never put your check on the butt while firing a shotgun, you just don't. You'd probably be o.k with a big gel pad slip on but even then, just keep your face clear. Use a aim point sight if you wanna aim well wist keeping your jaw on.
gregpm100 10 months ago
@gregpm100
are you mad? always keep your face on the stock, you'll never hit anything if you dont.
ArmedBrit 10 months ago
I recently picked up an 870 that came with this stock. I find my issues are the same you experienced Nutn. I'm now in the market for a replacement.
Warder3475 10 months ago
@Warder3475 try put gel mouse pad with a double sided tape.

Simple solution ... Foam pipe insulation will stop that nasty cheek slap with the SpecOps stock.

Thanks for the video. I was about to order one of these stocks... I think I'll go with a 12" Hogue instead.

Did anyone else notice that they had the shell holder mounted on the wrong side and in the wrong spot from the manufacturers suggested placement? Just saying?
TheJackBaker 11 months ago
I've got one and I love it. I don't put my face on the gun. I'm not a sniper.... This is a shotgun....
SergeiC1 11 months ago
@SergeiC1 how do you aim? lol if you can't put your cheek on the stock your not getting a proper sight alignment this stock is garbage!! Nothing wrong with a regular stock!
ridah925 10 months ago
@ridah925 its a shotgun.....point and shoot......if he would have a dragunov I would understand
