the useful part of this video takes up 1/4th of the screen. the rest is static and should have been cut out. i gotta squint to see where your fingers are. just a heads up for next time
First a little about this song. This might be the the most beautiful and most melancholy (spelling?)song ever wrote. It is of my favorites. In a restaurant a guy was playing all kinds of great music and I ask if he could play "Last Date" and he said no he could not play that style. Seeing this I can understand why.Very nicely done!
when Floyd Cramer did it he recorded it and if he made a slip up it was erased and done over. This is beautiful and very kind of kenlarkin to show us. Thank you it's beautiful!
that was played just as beautifully as floyd played it, awesome, my grandfather taught me how to play alot of his songs, but you did a wonderful job for a tutorial, slowed down enough to understand and pick it up yet smooth as the original masterpiece
This was a great help, thanks. I can't understand people who are critical of someone who is trying to help others. If you don't like it move on, have a great life and let people like kenlarkin share his knowledge with a greatful crowd. THX Ken
Here is someone who wants to show people how to play the song, that is why it is slowed down so people can see the fingers at work. Give him a break. Why are must you people be so negative, be nice and you'll feel better about others and especially yourself.
Nice tutorial, it helped my father pick up the slip trick. You played it well, my only comment would be that you hold the sustain pedal for too long. Notes sometimes run into each other when they shouldn't...resulting in a muddy carry-through.. otherwise it's fine.
Man, such hostilities, people claiming that this sounds "nothing" like the original and similar statements. I have been performing publicly for over 40 years on guitar, bass and keys, so I have a developed ear and in my judgment this is very well done. I always avoided slip style because I didn't know how to do it and this is very helpful.
this kid's got talent, I think the only reason why he was going slow was to teach you how to play a little bit bit eisier. What makes me so mad is that people click on the icon that says "LEARN HOW TO PLAY LAST DATE" and then say it wasn't like how floyed cramer did it. Of corse it was'nt!! lol Ii would of wanted him to slow down anyway if he did play it like floyed.
wonderful. As for the confusion over the intepretation there were TWO hit recordings of last date, one by Floyd Cramer and the other by Lawrence Welk (Feauturing Frank Scott at piano). When a station plays this song any more in my area, it is the welk version seeing that the market is flooded with that and scarce of the original. But this intepration is closest to the original. You have to remember, Floyd was also backed by an orchestra!
I am appalled by this! This sounds nothing like the way Floyd Cramer played Last Date. You need to actually get it right yourself before you start trying to show other people!
This is slow tempo version to show the fingering involved. It's a lot easier for those trying to learn slip note note technique than watching Floyd on stage. Go look up the original if you want it - it's here on YouTube!
Why, thanks for that explanation. I had not idea whatsoever that's what he was trying to do. I'm not talking about the tempo anyway. He need's to start playing the song (meaning the right notes for those of us NVanWendy thinks is too stupid to understand) the right way before trying to show anybody else.
Huh. I thought he WAS hitting the right notes, but I'll take your word for it that he isn't. I just can't tell from a person's comment if s/he is a piano ace or just can't tell why it sounds "off." Since I can't hear any sour notes, I figured you were griping about the speed.
tyler0144, no one is making you watch or listen, so why do you feel the need to critisize, just because he can do something you can't? Grow up already. I enjoyed it.
nice job keep on keeping on ;D

This sounds like one of those new digital pianos. They'll do anything but wash the dishes! (But the player certainly possesses the skills too.)

I'm going to use that.

I'll admit the sound quality is poor, due to the way it's recorded, but it's a digital piano, so it can't be out of tune.

This isn't the Floyd Cramer composition by Floyd Cramer ! What's the deal with the hokey left-hand accompanying ? They are arpeggios...
Thanks for the right hand visuals though.
