the funny thing about this is... this takes place in Kansas, which it were "Wizard of Oz" takes place and then a twister occured... and then in the movie "Twister (1996)", they put these probe spheres into a tornado and named the probes "Dorothy". Just felt like pointing that out.

You all are mistaken. It's hard to explain it, so I will just make an analogy. If there was a 100000 pound feather stack, and a 100000 pound metal block, which would stay on the ground for a longer time? Just because it is 300 pounds doesn't mean Shaq, or a cow, will be able to take a tornado dead on. It is more dense, and heavier to pick up for the tornado.

@ThumbsUPifUMakeMeLOL Well... because of the probe being flat on the ground, wind can't get under it to lift it up, but the cow has 4 legs, so the wind can get there, and lift it up. The probe is also small enough, that the wind doesn't have as big of an object to move, so it can't tip it so the wind CAN get under it. Does that help? :)

They're not usually at night. It just that the cloud is so massive that it blocks out the sunlight. True though, most of them are around evening because of the temp. changes. I've been under a storm similar to that and it got dark really fast.

Absolutely, many times. As a child it was terrifying, but as an adult, it is mere curiosity. It is veiwed in awe, of Mother Natures capability. I have been under, and in tornados, they don't affect me much. Luckily, I am safe at work yet am able to view it without danger. At home, I take the safe course.

There's a difference. The probe is made of cement and is much denser than a cow and has a much smaller surface area for the wind to catch. Also, the wind can get under the cow to lift it, but not the probe. The TIV uses the same idea by dropping steel plates to the ground.

That's one explanation. Also the tornado could have been weak at the time. Most tornadoes are and probably couldn't lift a cow.

But which is denser, concrete or a cow?

If a cow has 5 times the face to the wind as the cow it will be hit by 5 times the force as the probe, so the same amount relative to it's mass. (1500/300=5)
