I recently started listening to more 'post-bop' than I used to; players like Benny Green, Russell Ferrante and Kevin Hays have been recent influences. So no, I didn't really have a background in bebop, my first influences were in stylistic opposition - the blues-influenced Gene Harris and contemporary greats Jarrett and Mehldau.
