The battery life is 14 hours for music and Ive had mine on video for over 3.5 hours which is unbeatable. You CAN listen to music while you do other things like go online. Probably not while you watch a video but why would i want to do that anyways. I go on YOUTUBE with it almost every day and watch any vid I want because it DOES support flash.

The 604 on the other hand has EXCELLENT screen resolution. I found that several Nintendo DS Lite cases fit it superbly. I love it and laugh at all the idiots that bought Zune, Zens, and video iPods. Enjoy your proprietary file systems while I drag and drop with a Mac OR Windows, or even any flavor of Linux. Archos FTW!!

I hear it's fun trying to catch a train when holding a full size TV, and generator to power it, don't forget the aerial. This player has a 480 x 272 resolution, that's not 1/15 of a TV resolution.

I just got it. I'm not familiar with other portable players, but the sound "quality" leaves a lot to be desired. Think alarm clock radio with a blown out speaker. As far as playing VOB files, you have to buy a plug-in which will run around $20. There are two plug-ins to purchase w/ the 604- I haven't bought either of them. I'm starting to read rockbox(dot)com. They might have what we're looking for.

the 504 uses a 2.0 HD and the 604 uses a 1.7 hd. which makes it smaller. Check out the new 605 is even better.

Get the 504. It's just a bit thicker 5mm, and has better battery life. Also, it uses standard notbook HDs so perhaps you can upgrade...
