great video i loved it.i cant believe they needed a special operator from kansas to take the building down.did that construction company not have that type of equipment.
This episode was great.but why didint you show the whole building demolition.this episode was so cool watching that high reach demolish that building.thank you for putting this video up.
They could have probably turned the auxilliary circuit releif up some to at least 5800psi. That Universal Pulverizer has more potential than what they were utilizing in this vid.
This was a controversy in the community. As you can see from the video, the building was solid. The talk about building a new hospital had to do with things like asbestos problems, yet once the old building was vacated there was a push to turn it into apartments. Asbestos didn't seem to matter at that point.
A project was begun to create apartments, but fell through. Then the building sat empty and became vandalized -- lots of broken windows and spray paint. By the end, demo seemed good.
@fegolem that depends a lot on new handicapped accesibility requirements, as well as haz materials, asbestos, lead paint etc, sometimes it is cheaper to tear down and rebuild.
That marveling at all the re-bar was one of the main conversations of the afternoon during demo. I don't know anything about construction, but I figured there would be re-bar -- what I didn't figure was there being more "bar" than cement.
I run a dozer and i love seen them take down buildings..but wats weird is they hired a trained pro. to do the work and he lives in kansas....i live in kansas...whooo..i guess ppl from kansas are born with the gifted talent to run heavy equipment...haha
My father died in that hospital in 1985. It took me a little while to remember the building as I've been gone since almost that time. He would have loved to see that machine work as he had been a machinist and heavy equipment mechanic for most of his life. Well done vid!

How was the vacated hospital a problem? I think it would be very worth while to refurb it and turn it into cheap apartments or something.

its amazing how that claw just cuts trought that brick wall like its butter.

That was the most impressive thing, seeing all that rebar in the columns. With all that steel, there was hardly room for cement.
