  • YOu could follow the interview? .. Yes!, and thats were this 2:00 were all about.. so

  • Matsui does speak english but if u hear him speak he's better off speakin japanese with a translator! Lol

  • whatevr. jays aint had a team in 20 yrs don wory about it. YOU AN ANGL NOW BABY!!!

  • he shakes his head like a cartoon-lunatic

  • Why can't those damn reporters learn Japanese, haha.

  • @mickser101

seriously, right? I think all baseball reporters should learn Spanish (for the South American players) and Japanese (for all the Japanese players). I don't understand people thinking we all need English...it is an international game, no? And it's called the "World Series" for a reason!

  • great guy, great player. he is so hard not to like.

  • who's translating?

  • crrfrfreqgghuhuhtugh english japanese hideki

  • so he can't speak english, big deal. i'm glad he spent the time in batting practice helping us win last year instead of wasting it learning english. nobody talks shit about rivera and it took him ages to learn it (and english is a lot harder for a japanese speaker to learn than someone who already knows a romance language).

  • Is he related to Hideki Tojo?

  • @MisterKwakkles Doubt it.... Hideki is his first name. Matsui is his last name

  • @MisterKwakkles first name can't be related to other people

  • i thought of diarrhea and typed his name. oops, i meant chin soo choo. oops, ahhaha that wasn't on purpose either. i meant chan ho park. i guess when i think asian, i think diarrhea!

  • Is he from Nepal?

  • @vre13

    Hideki Matsui is from Japan.

  • He'll be speaking English fluently in no time. It helps when you hear it every day. So Taguchi learned from his wife.

  • damn how long has he been in the U.S.?

  • is that the yankees official translator? because he was at the world series celebration

  • when i went to a Yankees game in 2006 a while after when we left in traffic matsui's car drove up next to mine, i looked over and saw him, i freaked out and pointed at him like in dis-belief and smiled and he put his thumb up. my 5 seconds with a baseball star!

  • @LTDman77 I just have to ask. What kind of car was it? mustv been a nd escalade or toyota was it expensive? lol

  • I'm pretty sure Matsui does speak English. I think he prefers doing interviews in his native tongue because I mean, who wouldn't? I think it's pathetic how people sit there and criticize him for doing an interview in his own language! He's here to play baseball (and he does a hell of a job at that) not to be a public speaker, so lay off!

  • @2lvrck Does this look like he has a clue about the English language? Then why does he need his translator to decipher every question? If he spoke English but preferred answering in Japanese, then he'd answer immediately in Japanese without the translator telling him what the question was. C'mon dude, common sense!

  • @2lvrck he sleeps some music but not well he says it odd

  • @2lvrck No he definitely does speak English. This has been widely reported. He speaks Japanese for his fans back home. Everyone knows who Matsui is in Japan.

  • GIDZILLAAAAAA!!!!

  • It is much harder for a Japanese person to learn English than it is for a Spanish speaker. English and Spanish are both Romantic languages, thus there are similarities and cognates, but Japanese and English are totally different and they even use different alphabets.

  • I understand all of that, but you're comparing Japanese players who have been learning English since they were 12 years old to Latino players who probably weren't exposed to English until they got drafted in their late teens. Even considering the sizable gap between the two languages, Japanese players should have a solid enough grasp of the language to answer the same questions they're asked every night. Shin Soo Choo of the Indians is from Korea and he regularly does English interviews.

  • Not every Asian guy is the same. Stop generalizing, retard.

  • In principle you are correct. European languages share similar grammars. English is a Germanic language, however. Spanish is a Romance language, along with French, Italian, and Portuguese. I have learned some Spanish and some Japanese and can attest that Spanish is much easier for me. But really, it comes down to how much you want to communicate!

  • I find it a little disappointing that Japanese baseball players make no effort to speak English. It makes it really hard for fans in the US to get to know them I think.

Look at all the Latin players that do English interviews with subpar speaking skills. I would lay odds that Matsui actually speaks very good English. Like all Japanese schoolkids, he probably started learning in 6th grade. Plus he's been living in the US for a long time now.

  • @poshko41 FUCK YOU BITCH, IM SPEAKE ENGLISH WATHH IS YOU PROBLEM BECAUSE MATSUY DONT SPEAK ENGLISH

  • how do you know they didn't try? you think if he could speak English fluent enough during interviews, he would still rather use a translator?

  • I really hope my comment didn't sound bigoted (although I guess it's too late). I studied Japanese for five years and have the utmost respect for Hideki Matsui. I guess I just appreciate players who put their egos aside for five minutes to open up to the fans. In Japan, a lot of social prestige is awarded to those who speak English well. I can't help but think that Matsui's reluctance to do an English interview is more about saving face than his lack of English proficiency.

  • MVP Congrats! おめでとう!

  • Learn how to speak English Godzilla!! What happened to all those mcEikaiwa lessons you took in Japan?? Yes I know mcEikaiwa Sensei Clowns in Japan stinks!! They don't know how to teach either so learn from your teammates or don't go back to Japan until you master English!

  • This translater DOES NOT speak Good Japanese! What is that? No wonder Hideki is looking around like a FOOL. Hire better Japanese speaking translater. GEE!

  • he DOES speak damn good japanese. it's just that Matsui doesn't like to be interviewd i guess

  • Does any Yankee speak good English besides Jeter.

  • hes fkn awesome

    and inspiring

    not to mention

    how humble he is.

    hero

  • 6 RBI's

  • He's the man

  • Hideki's AWESOME!!

    Hes my FAVORITE!!!

  • There really are some ignorant people on this planet who even have the COURAGE to post IGNORANT comments about successful people.

  • A lot of it is just racism. There's a scumpile of people out there who just hate to see someone of another race succeed, or, make more money than they do.

  • Matsui is so Humble! one of the great japs of baseball next to Ichiro

  • GOOOOO GOJIRA!!!

A true Yankee ever since he donned the pinstripes and now a World Champion! Out of all the new Yankees this decade, he was the guy I was rooting for the most to get a ring.

  • THATSS MY BABYYYY!!!!! <333333

  • Really? Why are people making such a big deal about if he can speak English or not? It's hard learning a new language and juggling a busy work schedule such as professional baseball, he also has a wife. Do you think that he has time for classes? I sure don't think so. What matters is that he is an amazing baseball player. Also, some comments on this video contain awful grammar, so you shouldn't judge other people about their English when yours is horrendous.

  • i hate the yankass. but matsui is one of the good guys even a loser met fan like me would cheer.

a quite, shy but explosive bat carried his team to victory in the WS. good for him

but should've talked some english when they presented him the MVP trophy

  • Your English grammar is terrible. Please - quit embarrassing yourself. You're a shame. Now throw yourself out a window.

  • why are you QQing when you can't even type with proper grammar?

  • Now the first Japanese player to win the World Series MVP.

  • Now he's the second Japanese player to ever win the World Series.

  • wow u guys r dumb

  • hes been in this country for six years and still cant speak english. How shitty is that?

  • he knows how to speak english but not fluently interviews are faster and smoother if there is a translater

  • Comment removed

  • matsui for world series mvp

  • the usa decimated your shitty country with a massive nuke and u surrendered the next day

  • You're such an ignorant piece of shit. He's an awesome fucking ball player. You sit in front of your computer and make fucked up comments about people who are better than you, you fat ass loser.

  • MATSUI DOES IT AGAIN!!!!!!

  • You stupid Jackass

Chinks are from China not Japan where he's from. why don't you go bungee jump off a 30 ft. bridge with a 50 ft. cord you FUCKING LOSER.

  • What's all this talk about Chinese? Hideki is Japanese.

  • yankee fans love gojira, please re sign MATSUI

  • They better resign him! After the TWO two-run homers he had tonight, they better!

  • Hideki Matsui-World Series MVP hell yea, hed better get resigned! besides, look at all the japanese attention he gives the yankees, tokyos probably going insane right now! xD

  • Well... he's really Japanese lol not kidding. I gotta say 'though, as hard it is for Americans to learn a foreign language, it's even harder for a foreigner to learn English. Like you know what I mean? Like Hideki has been in America long enough to know at least some English but he's probably more confident when he speaks in Japanese.

  • how does he communicate w/ his teamates then?!

  • translater, like vlad guerrero who doesn't know english either.

  • lol. he looks shy. i feel bad.

  • i love hideki yalls can suck it.

  • Well Chien-Ming Wang as a Taiwanese has attempted to learn and to speak English!!!!

  • hey if you make massive money just by hitting balls and not talking

why waste your time speaking english lol

  • shut the fuck up man.

  • hes in the World Series 2009 right now!

  • you try learning chinese i dont care how rich you are,its that difficult for him to learn english, especially since he was born and raised some where else, all i kno is the yanx are smart for having gojira

  • I could learn Chinese as well as anybody else if they have the money to afford classes or get the education in schools.

  • alot of chinese people know english they just rather stick to there language because there self conscious about how they sound, especially if you know millions of people are watching you,+the yanx brought him over to play not to make you haters pleased with his english skills, might i add hedeki is a living legend who plays like one and has alot in him.

  • As a Japanese-American I think I know why he doesn't speak English, According to my father, a full blooded Japanese person, most Japanese people are afraid to speak English because they fear making a mistake. They fear embarrassment if they say something that's incoherent or grammatically incorrect.

  • That makes sense, and I understand it.

I feel the same way when I want to say something in Japanese. I am overcome by embarassment.

  • Matsui is the only Yankee I like. The rest are overpaid ball-lickers.

  • word. Matsui is awesome, the rest of the yankees can go to hell for all i care

  • Why won't he learn English already? If I had his money I'd learn every language

  • why?

  • You don't have to be a millionaire to learn a new language. It doesn't even cost a lot of money...just patience and time. Plus, if you were him, I doubt you'd have that time.

  • What most American fans don't know is that Matsui's nickname, "Godzilla," is not based on his prowess, but his facial appearance. To our eyes he just looks a bit rugged. But to the Japanese aesthetic he is all but monstrous--affectionately of course, they love him. of course they worship Ichiro (and why not?)

  • has to be bullshit he did hit a lot of homers back in japan

  • LOL!!

Why he keep looking around hahaha!

  • matsui is awesome shut the fuck up

  • thats not jeter!

    jeters voice is different

  • i would apply for a job to teach matsui english. :D favorite japanese player. (im american) favorite player in the MLB is mark texiera ever since the texas and LAA

  • lMFAO!

    Is that really Jeter?

  • derek jeter can speak japense?

  • it isnt jeter its his translator he can be seen in a different interview

  • 在日朝鮮人のコメントが醜いですね。

It's ugly comments of North Korean residents in Japan.

  • 松井さんに対しての在日朝鮮人のコメントが醜いですね。It's ugly comments against Matsui, North Korean residents in Japan.

  • lol is that jeter translating?

  • lmao it sounds like him

  • yep that is jeter lol

  • Comment removed

  • wtf hes been in mlb for 6 years and still dont speak english o-O

  • he can speak, pretty well, but he probably feels more comfortable with a translator

  • no he doesnt know much english. he understands basic baseball terms and signs and stuff, but he cant talk without the interpreter

  • my ear hurts. ive been in north america for a year but i would struggling with this interview.

    shingen?w

  • That interpreter is very good - conveys all of the nuances of Matsui's Japanese, as well as the reporter's questions.

  • 出てる、出てる、疣出てる。

  • Matsui doesnt talk english? how does he get around? is that his personal translator?

  • He can, but it's terrible

    he's taking classes tho

  • yer!

    baby!!

  • matsui ,might not return ,next season ,yanks gonna get at it in 09,giambi might be gone too!

  • Sidney* Ponson (sorry I keep making mistakes today >.>)

  • Excuse me, I ment that Phil had to get glasses because he is nearsighted and couldnt see the backstop to well, I believe he is back to pitching now, so now that he is back perhaps a removal of Sydney Ponson is in order.

  • how can you interview him the guy cant even speak english

  • Next Year Yankees must have the following team.

Damon, Jeter, Abreu, AROD, Matsui, Cano, Posada, Pitchers Wang, Chamberlain,Mussina, Pettite(hope he does not retire), Dan Giese seems impressive, Please sign one good relief bullpen pitcher like how Joba was last year, Rivera as a closer.

Get rid of BUMS LIKE GIAMBI, MELKY, JOSE VERAS, EDWAR RAMIREZ, Pavano, and sign Manny Ramirez, C.C Sabathia, and Xavier Nady. With this team above Yankees will be unbeatable and team like how they were in 1998.

  • Next year the Yankees should implode their new stadium and close the doors on the franchise.

  • Take time to reflect on the Bill Mazorouski Home-run when the Pittsburgh Pirates "popped" the New York Yankees in the 1960 World Series. The Yankee Fans has issues about that World Series. Anybody can recommend Yankee fans any "Psychological help"? Yankee Fans remembers their team between 1966 to 1975. The Yankees were "little league" Pee-Wee Loosers in those days. Reggie Jackson "Popped" the Yankees Mouth with those spectacular home-runs when he was a player for the "Oakland A's". Yanks Failed.

  • listen jmkgay whoever you are. Yankee fans don't have issues, who has time to reflect back the past and talk about what happened back in 1965 or 1970. Any team may be, Yankees have always had the upper hand regardless.

Just this year, once in like 13 years they might not make it to the playoffs but every other year they did. We don;t have problems, we r just passionate. Don;t mix the two together like how your head is mixed with your rear end.

    Dumbass.

  • u suck giambi's not a bum veras isnt edwar isnt and y should they sign manny and c.c. theyre too old

  • Giambi is okay, but i would want to know from a dumbass like you,

IS GIAMBI WORTH $23.6 MILLION/ YEAR.? Answer this question you dumb fuck, who's never been effective in any post season and only had two good seasons with the yankees and spend most of the time on the bench with that 23.6 million a year, EDWAR RAMIREZ AND JOSE VERAS SHOULD NOT BE IN YANKEES THEY SHOULD PLAY IN DR TEAM, COZ THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A SITUATION OR EVEN ONE INNING THEY PITCHED WHERE THEY HAVENT GIVEN A HIT, NEVER, SUCK

  • well ur still a fag racist giambi is really good and so are tha other players

  • Yes, however the lineup would be missing a first basement. Giambi is pretty good but Melky is meh. Your also apparently missing a pitcher that should be part of the 09 lineup, Phil Hughes. But right now due to the injuries to starting pitchers Wang and Hughes (also Joba but he is back in as a reliever for the rest of the season, back to SP in 09) we are stuck with HORRIBLE starting pitchers like Ponson.

  • I know Ponson is a blunder, but next year Yankees have to strengthen their pitching rotation with Wang, Mussina(sign 2 year deal), get CC Sabathia, or Brandon Webb, Joba, NO to PAVANO, Pettite loss wouldn't hurt me now coz i feel he's lost it.

You mentioned Giambi is pretty good.? You think he's worth 23.6 million dollars. thats my point, Exactly, hes good but not worth the money he gets paid for. AROD $25 million brought two MVP titles atleast something, GIAMBI NADA except comeback award 2006.

  • Yeah your right, but again the Yankees arent going to make the playoffs this year because of 'bad replacement pitchers.' They made Joba a reliever for the rest of the year because of the injury but HE CAN STILL PITCH BETTER THAN THE 'REPLACEMENT STARTERS' I know a-rod is pretty pissed right now. There were just to many injuries to the main starting pitchers this year.

  • You can't get Webb, sorry.

  • wait is derek translating for him?

    it sounds justt like him

  • Also, the Yankees really do need to re-sign Bobby Abreu, let Johnny Damon go, and scout AMERICAN players. NOT LATIN players.. A M E R I C A N... it's like the yankees sold out for continuing to sign cheaper, latin players instead of the quality bread american ones. Yeah Arod is the best player ever, Maybe, but that doesn't mean every f'cking latin player is too?!. Look how shitty Melky came out and the inconsistency of cano. it's americas past time, not la raza el punto's or someshit

  • i agree. damon they can trade. prolly for someone. here was an idea i had. yankees arent guna resign giambi for 21 mil a year. CMON so they trade melky damon and ian kennedy for a player like brandon webb or tim lincecum. they also sign cc sabathia in the offseason. then they sign texiaria in the offseason cause i think hes a free agent. they also need to pick up a set up guy

  • ur a racist person

  • No but obviously you're ignorant if you don't want the very best talent. American players grow up with the best facility's, the best qualifications, everything.. even look at how they did in China at the Olympics. Also, Melky and Cano where signed out of corruption, if they never threw back there signing bonus to the latin american scout, they would not be on the yankees right now. So that tells me something. Does that say anything for you?

  • I am a diehard yankee fan, and it's so true that Yankee need their all American players because in the past we had success with Paul O Neil, Jeter, Justice(2000),Tino(Hes Half american),Cone Strawberry, Brosius, Girardi, some extent Knoblauch. These latin players we have Cano who sucks and never consistent, Melky which every opponent when he's at bat takes for granted, Jose Veras this guy blows every save he gets,Edwar Ramirez another latin blunder, only Posada and Williams are the ones i respect.

  • Jingles your rite Yankees need American players, look at our rivals Redsox, Kevil Youkillis, Dustin Pedroia, Ellisbury, Jonathan Papelbon, Jason Varitek as a catcher not hitter ALL AMERICAN. Our team continues to sign cheap latin players. Edwar Ramirez i never seen him pitch good ever in crucial game, Jose Veras gets hit by every batter in the lineup and gives almost 7 hits in every game,Melky who can't bat for shit. We need American players like Joba, Gardner, Robertson is impressive as well.

  • acouple weeks ago, the yankees fired there latin american scouts for corruption. in reality, Cano and Melky aren't as good as they're advertised, they cheated there way into the big leagues, so I agree Sanj. Although we need a center fielder, and a left fielder next year ( SIGN MANNY ) if the yankees spend money, they'll get back in return, like the redsox in 07. if they sit around and shit themselves like they did most off seasons, and keep resigning failed players, thats what you;ll get.

  • I like him because he is always serious when hes at bat, unlike Cano who's always joking around with his latin buddies at the back DESPITE LOSING. He has a desire and if he would have a little earlier Yankees would have been in a much better shape because hes averaging over 343 with RISP unlike AROD who's 232. Matsuis always clutch and very lethal to our Yankees....He always gives you quality at bats, and a TRUE YANKEE.

  • A-rod has the best RC/27 on the Yankees and his Offensive Winning % this year is one of the best in all of MLB.

A-rod has MVP type numbers this year despite only being on pace for 102 RBI.

A-rod has been the best Yankee since he joined the team, all the other players, Jeter, Matsui, etc. are overrated.

  • Matsui has had over 100 rbis in all of his complete seasons with the yankees and is a career 300 hitter.

AROD IS AVERAGING 238 WITH RISP this yearand i think your on crack because he only has 77 RBr IS so far, and can never be counted during the last 3 innings of the game.

Jeter is the only yankee who is a career 320 hitter with most hits even since AROD joined the team, and is a better postseason hitter then AROD any day. AROD is overrated and i would rate Pujols better then him anyday.

  • Matsui this season, 6.64 RC/27, and not enough at bats to qualify for a full season.

A-rod, 8.44 RC/27, 2nd highest in the AL, 6th best in all of MLB.

A-rod is also better in WARP3, Win shares, etc. basically all of the stats that actually matter.

  • MATSUI hasn't played the whole season so i agree the stats dont qualify.

letS have a look at the Average with RBIS in the post season if you believe him to be a true Yankee

2005 AROD AVERAGING 133, AROD AVERAGE .071 LOL AROD AVERAGE 2007 267 Hideous numbers from the highest paid player in baseball. He will never be clutch and i bet he ;ll be the first one to tell you that.

  • jeter overrated dumbass

  • You got your answers for AROD game tonite against the Redsox i guess. I was at the stands booing his ass coz that fucking dick deserves it. He's not good now coz he got his contract already and i would rate Matsui better then him anyday. Coz every opponent likes Arod to come at bat with RISP because they know he wouldn't hit. Thats how much he sucks.

  • ur a gay racist

  • GOJIRA!!!!!

  • Hooray he's back! Now we need to produce more runs, which this guy is pretty much destruction when it comes to this.
