  • Manjula Aunti Ji, iam a big fan of urs also have subscribed you i have a request for you, can you please start uploading your videos on HD... Thanks :)

  • anti why my vadas were hard from inside :(((( ?

  • @rehanasadique

Whip the dal batter more until batter becomes light and fluffy.

  • as the name and itself suggests the whole flavor of this dish depends upon Dahi or curd...but here you are saying that curd is to be used for garnishing??????????

  • @letusenjoyit mainly you eat it with dahi

  • hey is mash dal n urad dal is same

  • Hello aunty enjoyed your recipe. You did not add any salt to the vada batter, why is that? also can I make the batter ahead of time and make the vadas the next day? What should i keep in mind? thank you.

  • yummy toooooooooooo

  • Excellent, couldn't be better this goes well without adding any eating soda, which tends to give gassey feeling after eating, this way is cool!

  • im goining to try this 4 IID day.thank u aunty

  • This is such a nice and easy recipie. My mom makes one wth only UDAD DAL and it is delicious.ut a bit complicated to make. If I make mistake in batter or frying they turn hard. I enjoy your easy recipie...Thank you!

  • If anyone is confused, Manjula tests the vada batter in water to test if the batter is properly aereated, so they will come out soft and fluffy. You need to beat/whip it to add air to the batter.

Your way of making Dahi Bada is very simple. I will try it and post the comment again. I'm sure it will be coming out good..

    Thanks,

    Ali

  • this dish is like Dahi Pulki

  • In South India Tamarind chutney is not used for garnishing Dahi Vada. But we garnish with green chillies, coriander leaves & temper the Dahi with mustard seeds & kadi patta.

  • hello aunti...

u didn't put ginger n green chilli to make the paste for vadas....as i have been eating this dahi vada since my childhood...thats why i just want to confirm it.

  • maybe that is how she wants it to be.

  • My God! That looks sooooo goooood!!!

  • manjulaji...

    i want to know that

if i add a pinch of eating soda in the batter, the wadas will become more soft, or it really doesn't

    make a much difference.

  • I do not like to use soda but it will be ok

  • Hello Aunty,

    Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

Shouldn't we add salt before beating the batter? How about water in which the fried wadas are soaked? Should it be room temperature, lukewarm or hot?? Should I add salt to water?

  • thanks manjula aunty for your wonderful yummy recipies,i want to make dal wada can u pls post the recipe for that.thanks

  • Urad daal is black gram (split and washed)

We can use only Urad daal also for this recipe, and will come out soo good too :)

  • i put too much water i dont know how to take it out

  • I have a friend from Guyana who makes something similar-they call it "bara"-with yellow split peas and moong dal and/or urad dal. They soak it and blend it with garlic, ginger, cumin, scallion, garam masala(and other spices) and fry it, then serve it with pickled green mango (achar) or sweet and sour chutney. I tried making it from her recipes many times before I finally got it right-Your instruction to not add too much water is the key! It was delicious and yours looks heavenly! Thank You!

  • My mother makes this as well. Her Recipe is a bit different. Instead of using chili powder, cumin and tamarind she uses ginger, mustard seeds , cut green chilies and garnishes with Chinese parsley. It is awesome to see someone else's take on this dish.

  • hello monjula... sorry, please tell me what the lentils r called in english... i tryed looking at them closely but, i cant make out what they r... thanks

  • these lentils do not have different english name you can find them in indian grocery store. known moong dal this is kind of yellw and urad dal this is kind of white color.

  • thank u

  • Also, you can sometimes find lentils in the kosher section of an American grocery store,or with the beans. :3

  • Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and talent!

Do you have a recipe for rose petal spread or jam?

  • Manjula ji,

Thanks for the posting this video, 2 questions though:

    1. Why did you say to whip/mix the dals only in circular motion and not go in left to right motions?

    2. I did not understand what you tried to show by dropping a drop of dal in water jug?

    Please explain

    Thank you

  • Dahi vada should be very soft and melt in your mauth, just with experience I have seen whipping in circular motion dal is batter whip. I drop dal in water to make sure dal is whipped enough as soon as you put the drop of dal in water dal should come up.

  • thnak u sooooo much for lovely recepies

  • Hi Manjula... Thx so much for the reciepie... we are waiting for u to give us the reciepie of Saboodana Khichdi.... Thanksss...

  • Ms Manjula you making my mouth water again. Such lovely videos! Thank you so very much!

  • Manjula you are fantastic we all love watching your mouth watering recipes. while on holiday in singapore i tried something at an indian restaurant. it was like crunchy hollow balls about the size of the things you just cooked. inside they had put , yoghurt chili cucumber coriander and sultanas. do you know how to make this. my mouth is watering thinking about them. Thanks again. Nita Australia.

  • Manjula you are amazing. Thank you for the recipies. I am a novice cook and even I can follow your simple instructions.

  • It would be nice if we add some salt and green chillies and / red chilli powder , finely chopped ginger and some pepper too :)

  • yes salt green chilly cilantro(green coriander)whole black papper any of these will be good just use your imagination what I shold is basic recipe.

  • okay Thank You Auntiji and Have a Very Happy and Safe New Year :)

  • Hi, Thank u so much aunty.I love dahi wada. Will be trying it very soon.I tried making Aloo gobi and gajrela both turned out very tasty.I am si glad to have found you.Thank you.

  • oh yummy!!! i really have to try this one for my boyfriend (and..welll...for myself XD), thank you again Manjula ^^

  • That is something I have never seen before....looks very good though! I live in the midwest and we eat a lot of scandanavian food around here....thanks for the good videos!

  • What's the reason for soaking them in water first? What if you just soak them in yogurt?

  • If you soak them just in yogurt vada dont absorve the yogurt so vada will be tasting dry and will not be very soft

  • I meant in the flour not just for garnishing

  • Namaste Aunty, I love all your recipes..Reminds me of my mom and sis in India, who are an avid cook too. Thanks for posting the videos...I watch your videos all the time :-)

    God Bless!!
