If they allow (government endorsed) prayer for the military, those who don't pray will be seen as not supporting the troops...a nice way to make atheists seem unpatriotic. *sigh* Oh America, how far you have fallen...I sure hope secularism holds out....
Fox has to be bias toward religion, because if they're not ratings will suffer. When the majority of America becomes atheist, they will switch sides. Theres no integrity in media or politics.
tough time they say? wtf you talking about??? you guys put yourself in that tough times by declaring war against other country.. Are americans that stupid? and why the fuck are they praying to God? so, is God gonna take side just because muslims have different approach on how they worship him?? wtf is wrong with religious DUMBASSES!!!!
Thank you Faux news for your biased anti-atheist viewpoints. I sleep so much better at night realizing that you'd rather I live in a theocracy rather than respect my constitutional right to live under a secular government with no endorsement of religion at all. That's sarcasm btw. It doesn't matter what God you pray to if the government promotes prayer it's still a violation of the 1st Amendment.
How far will something like this go, though; does Mr Barker suggest the government take away different statutory holidays such as Christmas and Easter? Even Labor Day: does this day not discriminate against the unemployed? Will they stop the promotion of the Gregorian calendar due to this compulsion to not promote any one particular religion in any way? This over-sensitive movement is poison. I understand and support separation of church and state, but this is embarrassing and total bullshit.
father morris, fortunately u're not my father, so good my father is an atheist so do I ...so fuck u , crawl back to your god an pray to god and santa claus
Wow...Mr. Morris clearly knows nothing about the constitution or the philosophy of the founding fathers. Look into the works of Jefferson and Franklin and you will see how much effort they put into and how necessary they saw that this country be founded on a secular constitution. Jefferson, for example, described God as an architect of the natural universe who gave two shits about one country over another, in other words, a PERSONAL God.
Father Morris is an idiot. Our founding fathers were deists, who believed the creator did not intervene nor reveal himself to mankind. As far as they were concerned prayers did not get answered. Morris has made some really dumb statements, which can be found all over YT.
He said that Hitler and Stalin killed people "in the name of" atheism. He was asked if Adam and Eve were the first people then who did Cain and Able have children with and he was clueless. You can.......
right on!! I don't know why Dan is complaining of being excluded of something he doesn't want to participate in. It's like me saying there are tons of drugs at my friends house I don't want to participate and i feel excluded. These people just love arguing for no reason. No one is forcing others to pray. You don't want to pray? don't
@KingDcome11 By endorsing the national prayer day, the government is taking a stance on religion. The state is secular, therefore it should have absolutely no standpoint on religion. The state represents the people the United of States; if 15% of the citizens of the United States do not believe in God, then the government has no right to provide a platform only for christians.
@glagos93 While I agree with some things you say. Let's make it clear that prayer day is not only for christians but muslims and hindues and everyone who prays. No one if forcing atheists to pray. While some might be atheists , there are others who are not. So you are pretty much saying " Do as I say because I'm atheist" In other words, atheists want privilage over those who do believe in a god. No one is forcing this guy to pray. He just wants attention. he thinks he's the new voice out there
@KingDcome11 Atheists just want for the separation of church and state to be respected. If the government endorses any religion whatsoever, it is violating the separation of church and state. We don't want people to do what we say, we just want people to respect one of the fundamental principles of democracy.
@glagos93 Well, for the most part the state has always been apart fro the church. But you must understand that sometimes religion will get on the way. There is radical islam for example which is about religion that must be treated by the State. whatever happened to freedom of speech? I don't see anything wrong with a call to prayer honestly. We are lucky to be in a country where no one will be forced to pray. There is many people who don't like haloween yet we still allow it? why?
@KingDcome11 I'm not denying religious people their freedom of speech, I'm just saying that the State can't endorse religion. If the state believes that by endorsing national prayer our problems will be solved, then I am worried for the future of America. I respect people who want to pray in their homes or even organize religious rallies, as long as the State does not endorse them. Halloween, Christmas, etc. are secular holidays.
@glagos93 Dude , is national prayer DAY, not WEEK or MONTH or year. Maybe It won't solve the problems in the US but it will sure give people with religious beliefs hope ( even if they are delusional ) that this country has not forgotten about How important religious beliefs are ( maybe for the wrong reasons but religious people in average are happier and less stress prone than those with no religion) for some people. We are not asking for a year. only one day.
Dan Barker is the best at debating Christianity v Atheism. No Christian can stand with him. He always finishes a debate with a big grin on his face as though every time he clashes with these people he is amused and feels more intelligent afterwards.
Sometimes I wonder if maybe Vince McMahon owns Fox News and is scouting the "love to hate" characters like Morris, O'Reilly, Hannity, Palin, Beck; ummm all of them...

Gotta say I personally ENJOY hating FOX; fuck it's addictive.
We can't 'just let them have this' because it sets a precedent. There can be no compromise whatsoever on church/state separation and it's wrong to suggest that certain days or events should be excluded. It makes no difference whether people pray or not, but the government must absolutely refrain from supporting directly or indirectly religious, theistic practices. Even the bible makes it clear that prayer must be done in private, yet we have government sanctioned prayer events?
They are pushing one religion over another. If they weren't then they'd also set up a stand for atheists, for Hindus, for Muslims, and for Jews, who live in this country to also come and pray at the same time. They're setting up a time for Christian prayer, there are more than just christians in this country, so yes, they are indeed determining which religion should stand over another. I didn't see a Muslim or a Hindu on Fox, defending their day of prayer. Why? They don't have one.

Who hires for FOX? Really! I mean, come one! More people like Barker should be working for FOX, but no, we have people like O'Rilley and these douche bags.
its shocking that this guy can be taken serious " we are at war so we have to pray" had he said that in scandinavia he would be branded as an retard and an idiot.
What is it, suddenly no one can pray without a national day of prayer? It's just this sole day a year people have a chance to pray, and if they miss it, they have to wait another year? the whole day of prayer things doesn't make sense. As Barker said, to have the government orchestrate the national day of prayer, cheapens prayer.
these same morons that want the government out of everything want it for the religious and the military. christianity is one of the most fucked up and pathetic religion in the world. then again we have islame which wants us to go and take a shit in a certain way.
Father Morris is wrong. At 2:40 he goes on to say that the founding father recognized a higher power who we depend on and need. He's suggesting that this higher power listens and answers prayers. Well, our founding fathers were deists. They recognized a high power, however, they did not believe this power listened and asnwered prayers. This is a historical fact. In-fact they thought revealed religions were complete rubbish. Try reading Age of Reason.
HEY EVERYONE DOESNT FATHER MORRIS LOOKS LIKE A GROWN UP VERSION OF THAT KID FROM THAT OLD CARTOON "RECESS" THAT WAS ALWAYS REPORTING AND TELLING ON THE OTHER KIDS, i FORGOT THE CHARACTERS NAME THO
This blonde bimbo says the phrase "Day of Reason" with so much disgust that it is actually quite funny. But let's not forget that she works for Fox News where "reason" is an evil word and the practice of it is avoided at all cost.
@paspro67 You're soooo right. Her disdain is palpable. It's almost as if she's saying " eew, REASON? get that thing AWAY from me... like totally gross...." lolol
You just gotta LOVE that, "It's NOT emphasizing one religion over another!" comment, followed by, "And... that's a live shot of a marathon BIBLE READING at the capitol..."
@BiblePreacher889 "that secular homo guy"... Now there is a fine example of the words of a GOOD CHRISTIAN! As many so called patriotic americans fail to realize... our bill of rights was written and enacted, not to protect the rights of the many as their numbers will do that for them... not at all... it instead is in place to protect the rights of the few... we are a Republic and not a Democracy as so many Americans believe... 15% non-believers rights are equal to if not greater than the 85!!!
@BiblePreacher889 If our employees had integrity, they'd "preserve, protect and defend" the U.S. Constitution, as the oath they take demands. Any government employee who puts her/his religion before her/his country should be fired. It's un-American to to impose religious beliefs via civil law.
The U.S. government cannot support one religion over another, or religion over no religion. A "National Day of Prayer" supports religion over no religion, in violation of the separation of church and state, and is unconstitutional. There is only one founding document - the U.S. Constitution - and it says nothing about belief in a "higher power."
Who is he to tell people to keep their most cherished beliefs private? Does he tell gays to keep their sexual preferences private, or would he be fine with a gay pride parade?
@punnet2 It's clear that during a marathon bible-reading there isn't just one person reading for hours in a row since there are other things to do in a day
This is funny. What documents are they reading when they say "it's clear in the u.s. documents" What are u guys reading. NOWHERE does it say anything about a particular religion. Ignorance..plain & simple.
OMG you people are so stupid first of all our country isn't to the point were we're so secular that we sgould cancel events like this. You atheists always fucking make fun of religion because you think we're wrong well guess what your wrong too.
don't forget about the divine plan. In the beginning God made a divine plan, so if that is true, why the fuck pray for anything in the first place. Do you want him to change his plan just for you. See George Carlin on religion
@Haukman66 How is Dan Barker an idiot? He's right. There are a lot of religions that don't even believe in prayer and the government is giving preference to people that do pray over people that don't. That IS religious preference! There was never a day of prayer until the 50s., we are just putting things back to how the founding fathers designed it.
@universalmusac because he is upset being "excluded" from something he doesnt even believe in! And who cares if their are "religions" that dont believe in prayer! No one said they had to participate. You know, with that kind of logic, I should protest, because I am not getting welfare. I know I am working, and make too much money to qualify, but hey, I am being excluded! And as for the founding fathers, they were mostly christian!
@Haukman66 Christians have the right to pray whenever they want, this is about making it a government sanctioned day, the government should not support one religion over another. That doesn't take away anyone's right to pray, it just puts them on the same level as everyone else, no preferential treatment. Our founding fathers did not create a national day of prayer, the were not so arrogantly religious to make our government Christian based. There is no mention of God in the constitution.
@universalmusac I never said the founding fathers ever created a national day of prayer. And yes, they were too christian. You do realize, the pilgrims that first stepped off the mayflower, were Christians! And no mention of God in our constitution? What about our national anthem? Have you ever been to Washington DC? Maybe you should go there. It is very much founded on Christian principles...or at least it was!
@gamingsoul11 1. So, you have made your conclusion by "looking up some quotes"? If that is what proves truth, I can find some tall stories by googling many things.
2. I never said the national anthem was an official document, did I? NO. But it is song at just about every public event in the US.
3. Where do you come to your conclusions? Separation of church and state means, that the Gov. has not the right to butt into the church.
@gamingsoul11 Knowledge? I am sure you dont realize, that our finest Universities in this country, were founded by Christians! Princeton, Yale and many others. Hmmm.....I wonder where that knowledge came from?
Does anyone at Fox News REALLY not understand the purpose of church/state separation? Or are they just trying to pander to the lowest common denominator of a right-wing, christian, conservative audience?
What is this "father" talking about? Jefferson edited out all the supernatural elements from the bible! The host of this interview seems to think god was included in a bunch of founding documents. HUH? The Declaration of Independence references a DEIST GOD only (nature's god), and the Constitution NEVER MENTIONS GOD IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, and only mentions religion to say no government religion will be established, and no religious test for president. WHY if they were Super Christians?
If the Catholics and Protestants and Jews and Muslims and whoever else all want to get to gether and organize an annual day of prayer, fine. That's their right. But the government should not endorse it.
I never claimed to be any kind of genius, only that I have the background to know far more about reality than a con like you could ever hope for, not that you seem much interested in learning about reality. As for being "foul-mouthed," that's what's called a straw man argument - an attempt to change the subject to something irrelevant because you are unable to defend your absurd claim to be able to predict earthquakes with astrology. It's also an ad hominem fallacy.
Notice how the father says "I've never been ACCUSED of being part of an evangelical, right wing conspiracy to turn our prayer into a Christian theocracy."
85 % believe in God smart people but do they follow God. I do not believe so. and for that reason that is why a the road to heaven is narrow. Athiest are the minority. The believe that something made man and woman but do not know what. Oh yeah it was the big bang right. we have made so many big bangs in iraq and still there are any new creations. You know why? Because with every creation there has to be a creator. Athiest rely on themselves that is why they live and will die with nothing.
@ermccallum The big bang is just a name used for the origin of the universe as we know it, as it expanded from an infinitely dense point some 13.7 billion years ago, it has nothing to do with an explosion like the one our good christians are inflicting on the Iraqis. How the universe got into being I don't know, but I am not going to label my ignorance "god." If every creation needs a creator, who created god?
@wherethewestbegins I fully acknowledge that my comment, as a point of argument, is an ad hominem logical fallacy; most people assume that someone is just sharing their opinion when they insult someone else though. Food for thought.
Dan Barker used to be a wacko like that Theist talking. He knows their arguments inside in and out. Funny how fox doesn't introduce him as the writer of his wonderful book or his former occupation.
85% of the american population believe in god so this day is ok? There was a time in american history that the majority thought slavery was ok. Like many europeans i look to america in admiration of it's secular laws. (northern europe is mostly irreligious[apart from islamic immigrants, who refuse to assimilate] but the countries have established religions). Your wall of separation of church and state is the correct model, Mr Jefferson, "build up that wall"
Hahaha "In your worldview, we've been hoodwinked into doing good through natural selection." Hahaha You should be a comedian. We weren't hoodwinked, traits like altruism are inbred in us because their survival benefits to our species. Humans figured out a long time ago that we live more comfortable lives if we live in societies and help one another. If we all fended for ourselves we'd still be living barbarically inconvenient lives. No god is needed for our species to behave altruistically.
@shady4life1991 Funny you should say that. Dawkins has categorically stated that we have been hoodwinked into believing these things, when there really is no good, and no bad, just things that are evolutionarily adaptive, and things that aren't. You think Dawkins is a comedian too? The exposition below your stupid response also seems to agree with me. Don't you even understand what the hell you yourself are saying? Geez.
Reason, and faith are a counteraction. Faith is to believe in something with out evidence. Reason is to use logic to forum your opinions.

Also if 15% are Atheists that means 85% aren't, not that 85% do believe in one god. There are other religions in the army.

It's un-American to to impose religious beliefs via civil law.

doobiesmoke15 10 months ago
The U.S. government cannot support one religion over another, or religion over no religion. A "National Day of Prayer" supports religion over no religion, in violation of the separation of church and state, and is unconstitutional. There is only one founding document - the U.S. Constitution - and it says nothing about belief in a "higher power."

LOL, Dan Barker is an idiot!
Haukman66 1 year ago
@Haukman66 How is Dan Barker an idiot? He's right. There are a lot of religions that don't even believe in prayer and the government is giving preference to people that do pray over people that don't. That IS religious preference! There was never a day of prayer until the 50s., we are just putting things back to how the founding fathers designed it.
universalmusac 1 year ago
@universalmusac because he is upset being "excluded" from something he doesnt even believe in! And who cares if their are "religions" that dont believe in prayer! No one said they had to participate. You know, with that kind of logic, I should protest, because I am not getting welfare. I know I am working, and make too much money to qualify, but hey, I am being excluded! And as for the founding fathers, they were mostly christian!
Haukman66 1 year ago
@Haukman66 Christians have the right to pray whenever they want, this is about making it a government sanctioned day, the government should not support one religion over another. That doesn't take away anyone's right to pray, it just puts them on the same level as everyone else, no preferential treatment. Our founding fathers did not create a national day of prayer, the were not so arrogantly religious to make our government Christian based. There is no mention of God in the constitution.
universalmusac 1 year ago
@universalmusac I never said the founding fathers ever created a national day of prayer. And yes, they were too christian. You do realize, the pilgrims that first stepped off the mayflower, were Christians! And no mention of God in our constitution? What about our national anthem? Have you ever been to Washington DC? Maybe you should go there. It is very much founded on Christian principles...or at least it was!
Haukman66 1 year ago
@Haukman66 1. Many founding fathers wanted nothing to do with religion, this is clear from looking up some quotes.
2. Last I checked, the national anthem was not in the constitution. It's a song, not an official document.
3. This country was founded on anything but religion. The constitution clearly orders a seperation of church and state.
Ever heard of a library? Maybe you should go there. It is very much founded on knowledge...and still is.
gamingsoul11 1 year ago
@gamingsoul11 1. So, you have made your conclusion by "looking up some quotes"? If that is what proves truth, I can find some tall stories by googling many things.
2. I never said the national anthem was an official document, did I? NO. But it is song at just about every public event in the US.
3. Where do you come to your conclusions? Separation of church and state means, that the Gov. has not the right to butt into the church.
Haukman66 1 year ago
@gamingsoul11 Knowledge? I am sure you dont realize, that our finest Universities in this country, were founded by Christians! Princeton, Yale and many others. Hmmm.....I wonder where that knowledge came from?

What is this "father" talking about? Jefferson edited out all the supernatural elements from the bible! The host of this interview seems to think god was included in a bunch of founding documents. HUH? The Declaration of Independence references a DEIST GOD only (nature's god), and the Constitution NEVER MENTIONS GOD IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, and only mentions religion to say no government religion will be established, and no religious test for president. WHY if they were Super Christians?

I never claimed to be any kind of genius, only that I have the background to know far more about reality than a con like you could ever hope for, not that you seem much interested in learning about reality. As for being "foul-mouthed," that's what's called a straw man argument - an attempt to change the subject to something irrelevant because you are unable to defend your absurd claim to be able to predict earthquakes with astrology. It's also an ad hominem fallacy.

Like many europeans i look to america in admiration of it's secular laws.

No god is needed for our species to behave altruistically.
shady4life1991 1 year ago
@shady4life1991 Funny you should say that. Dawkins has categorically stated that we have been hoodwinked into believing these things, when there really is no good, and no bad, just things that are evolutionarily adaptive, and things that aren't. You think Dawkins is a comedian too? The exposition below your stupid response also seems to agree with me. Don't you even understand what the hell you yourself are saying? Geez.
