I was going crazy trying to figure out how to change the battery. It's been beeping for days; with the beeping and my frustration with trying to see how to change the thing has almost sent me over the edge. Then I said let me get on the internet and get some help!! Your demonstration is terrific and easy to understand. Now I know what I have to do to tackle this thing. Thank you. So here I go! If you don't hear anything else from me, it worked and I'm grateful.
They need to make fire alarms that are so simple a toddler could fix em. Also, an LED screen that ONLY turns on to inform you when you need to change the battery would be fan-flippin-tastic!
Thank you so much. You just save me the embarrassment of having to ask some guy how to do this. Geez I love the internet for things like this, so incredibly helpful.
I had trouble taking off the quick connector; some, like mine have little "arms" instead of a tab. You need to squeeze in the arms on either side of the wires so that it will come off.
I can't thank you more. The smoke detector started beeping and since the battery has never been replaced I could not undo the plug in. After seeing your video, I got the guts to unplug it with the help of a screw driver. Changed the battery as you instructed and walla, the beep was gone.
Oh wow man thanks you so much. The wires were freaking me out and I did not want to unplug it . The battery is what makes it work, what are the wires for? If I leave it unplugged all night will that damage anything? I'm gonna unplug it from the ceiling, take the battery out, and just call maintenance to come give me a new battery.
@hootyhaha The reason the smoke alarm beeps is because it needs a new battery replacement. The alarm is hard wired to the house but the battery is the back-up in case your electricity fails.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Very helpful!! The only video I've found useful in solving the annoying issue.
My alarm is the same type as yours. It was hard to snap off the connector like you did so I finally decided to use a screw drive to pop it open. That didn't break anything and I was not electroshocked. In fact, the chirping sound had been so troublesome that I actually was willing to take the risk of breaking the alarm or getting shocked. LOL!
see when i take the smoke detector down and replace the battery, everything seems to be fine...(the chirp goes away)...then when i go to plug it back into the wires hanging from where the smoke detector was plugged in......once i plug it in, the smoke detector goes off and rings very loudly.....how do i make it stop and what am i doing wrong?!?!....if someone could respond, that'd be great..:)
Thanks for posting this! It was the only video that showed me how to change the batteries with an AC connector! I needed to temporary disconnect our two smoke alarms to safely bug bomb the house. Now I can change the batteries as well when I re-connect them afterward! Thanks!!! If people are reading this and they want to bug bomb there house too, make sure all living things are out of the house and pilot lights are off!
Wow, my husband gave up on it and said we'd just have to put up with it all night, call someone in the A.M.. I watched your video and fixed it! Our connector was a little stubborn, but I felt safe using a bit of force after seeing your video. Works like a charm! Thank you!
Thanks for posting. Im trying to figure it out myself for a while till I decided to look for it on the internet. Im just glad i did and it helps me how to removed it from wiring as i am trying to removed the base by keep on turning it clockwise and counterclockwise.
there are many type of detectors, After an hour try and seeing so many demo videos in U Tube, finally, I managed to open, it has a small lever on the side & just push it opens like a door & replaced the battery, Regards, A Ram
please help!! i can't get the connector out of the detector and it's driving my crazyyyy and still dangling from my wall... it will not budge, please please help

My smoke detector isn't like that. I swear everything about it is stuck to the wall & can't be accessed.
