  • 2:57 AAAMAZINGGGGGGG

  • OMFG. I forgot just how powerful this movie was. Amazing.

  • Ted Neeley's voice is... all the time above the rest of us, mere mortals.

  • i would have loved to have heard this man sing with deep purple

  • I remember this showing on TV, does anyone realize how big a risk this was for programers of TV when it showed? It is probabley the most real and touching programing to ever show on network TV. Remember this showed primetime before cable was in every homw.

  • Holy Crap this Dude can effin SING!!!!

  • Epic Rock Opera

  • "God, Thy will is hard, but you hold every card" A friend of mine has just lost his dearest relative. In his opinion this sad event was determined long before. Nothing could be done to avoid death. God mated. All the circumstances that led to the tragedy were chained in an amazing sequence. Man plans God acts. There is no coincidence. You might not agree with this, but that is your choice.

  • the line "god thy will is hard, but you hold every card" defines every pain humans go though.

why do we have to suffer?

if he loves us why does he not just put us in heaven?

    god is hell.

  • @ChuBonk Right now ive read your comment about, and i wanna know if anytime you put your hand on your heart, and did the same question: do you deserve heaven for you and yours?however,God loves you no matter you think,or could: our residence on earth is a test, could you go over, after your performance?think about.Best regards.

  • @ovatsug2836 a test? who would put somebody they loved on this earth?

would you put your daughter here if she could be in heaven? would you test her?

I hate this. this is hell. We are all Jesus. we are all suffering and we shouldn't have to.

If I was god I would make this world heaven no matter what. I don't care about evil. this

    there is war.

    there is pain

    THERE IS HELL.

how do you put someone in hell? would you

    ? I couldn't. an eternity of pain. I want paradise.that is all I want

  • @ChuBonk you should never forget a very important matter: nothing is free, to get the promised land,or heaven/paradise, you must fight: against evil, sin, default, etc. Nobody wishes hell for their owns, but we must be tested in rejection(as Jesus)to sins, evil, etc.and prevail the better we can, this way you may be accepted with no objection ,if read Apocalypse(the seven churchs)youll see and understand ,i hope.Best regards, and take off your heart that hate you have.

  • @ChuBonk That is why you are not God. One thing you have to remember is we chose all of this when we rebelled against God. We put our selves in HELL. Jesus is God trying to drag us all out. Still some of us prefer to stay in Hell.

  • Is useless to argue, it is clear that Ted Neeley gives the best performance of Jesus.

  • this song really shows the fear in Jesus, what a sacrifice. Thank you +

  • /watch?v=1cZCMVjkiQI&feature=related

  • when ted hits those high notes its really mind blowing

  • Watch his neck from 5:28 ... My goodness, what power...

  • Rox!

  • Ted Neeley gives the best performance of Jesus I have ever seen...

  • Gesù è un eroe.

  • Anyone studying this for the Auditions????

  • Does anyone know which paintings are used in this scene?

  • Anyone who says Ted Neeley sucks can suck my nonexistent dick!!

  • Incredible performance. I will always love it.

  • @pajamagirl123 I wouldn't consider Les Miserables, Phanthom, or Miss Saigon an opera. An operetta, perhaps. But as someone who was privileged to have attended both musicals and operas, I am confident I can call JCS a great musical. What I cannot understand is the constant bickering over what it is, or which version is better. Both versions have incredibly talented casts.

  • 22 dont likes!!! WHY???

  • this the best movie ever created, nothing can even come close.

  • @johncerasi Funny you should say terrible acting. The 2000 JCSS were cast with Broadway caliber actors. It was a teleplay, nothing more or less. Just come out and say it, "I only like the rock opera version". Let those who have an open mind appreciate both.

  • @Ballbuster1969 You can have an open mind and still only prefer one. ;)

  • @pajamagirl123 A rock opera to some, a musical to others. Either the '73 version or the '00 version were excellent for thier rezpective genres. And both were talently cast.

  • @Ballbuster1969 If I ever hear anyone call JCS a musical I'm sure to correct them real quick. Ted Neely, Carl Anderson and even Andrew Lloyd Webber have all stated that it is NOT a musical. A musical has dialogue that is spoken while a rock opera, or any opera in general is sung in it's entirety.

  • Such a passionate original hard to match, better singing? perhaps; but this is epic!!! Thanks for sharing.

  • 2000 was better

  • @123Anela Hahaha, good joke.

  • @johncerasi but i'm not joking

  • @123Anela Oh....then you're stupid. The 2000 cast is full of terrible actors. Every emotion and every line is stiff or phony. Plus, none of them can sing like this cast. The 73 version has a better location (they actually shot the film in Israel), better actors, better singers, and more creative ideas and shots. The 2000 version is just not that good at all, especially when compared to this.

  • @johncerasi thats what you think but i don't think so, and I don't have to like this just because you say that stupid!!!!

  • @123Anela And he not even sing he talks like he was speaking to us, and if it is a musical he should sing but he don't and Glenn Carter does it and he sings very well if you have a problem with me and that i like the 2000 better. let me just like that what is your problem!!!!

  • @123Anela this isn't a musical. it's a rock opera.

  • @pajamagirl123 same shit

  • @123Anela not at all actually. but you're young so i wouldn't expect you to know the difference. no offense

  • @pajamagirl123 you don't have to be rude!!

  • @123Anela I wasn't! Just stating facts. You ARE young soI really wouldn't expect you to understand the difference.

  • @123Anela Sorry, but anybody who states that Glenn Carter is a better singer than Ted Neeley clearly doesn't have a very good understanding of music. Carter is... lighter, less expressive, and nowhere near as talented as Neeley.

  • @TheMattheist just because you think that Ted Neeley is a better singer than Glenn Carter it doe's not mean that every body has to like Ted Neeley!!!!!!

  • @johncerasi I agree, there was very little heart to the 2000 version.

  • Drew Sarich is a pale shadow of Neely he uses technology and glam , still songs well, but cannot do the broken voice or the true feelings Neeley is far better.

  • i love this its amazing! =) my brother will love this!

  • nossa, qe coisa linda

  • What would happen if Peter, Juan or James joined Jesus?

  • @NoxorionZ There would have been no song. So it's good that they kept sleeping ...

  • ",,,far too keen on where and how, but not so hot on why..."

and even today the church can't put a decent argument on why.

  • @tierragroup What I get out of the crucifixion story is that Jesus forgave the people who wronged him. I think there ought to be more emphasis on that more than anything else.

  • @tierragroup go ask your self to god not to the church

  • @tierragroup to die for our sins...or so it says in the bible

  • @tierragroup - 'At that time Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled." The all the disciples deserted him and fled." (Gospel of Matthew 26:55)

  • @tierragroup- WHY is exactly what Christ proclaimed in being the unique and Holy Son of God and in His life, death, resurrection. The debt of sin is paid in full for us by the perfect life of Christ Jesus. That is WHY He is the Passover Lamb - the sacrifice made perfect once and for all that anyone can accept freely.

  • @tierragroup um wrong any Bible believing church would tell you he had to die to wash away the sins of the world

  • @tierragroup

Almost every book in the Bible gives the reason for why...Jesus never questioned why he had to die, he was well aware that without his sacrifice no man would ever see heaven, for every mans "acts of righteousness is as filthy rags". Without the pure sacrifice no man is able to enter heaven, for even with any good we have done we still aren't worthy. In Genesis God tells Abraham not to touch his son, for the Lord will provide, and true to his word as always, he did.

  • @tierragroup The Church is obsolete

  • @painlessissuicide but Faith NEVER becomes obsolete

  • @tierragroup simple, to pay a ransom

  • thumbs up if it made u cry

  • @geminibaum29

:o even here begging about thumbs -.-

  • @KJByku not rlly just love the song, i was in the habit of puttung "thumbs up if" comments so I wasnt tryin to be a thumbs whore just forgot. and this song is outstanding. :)

  • Jaw-dropping

    ...from an atheist

  • After hearing Drew Sarich do his version, this one just doesn't hold up. Drew really nails the feelings in the song and he has an awesome voice. It's so different than the other versions.

  • Drhi38 MAYBE

  • Ian Gillan can really sing this song!

  • @showeyes not Ian Gillan, its Ted neely, Ian was on the first album.

  • @geminibaum29

Yes, this is Neeley, but Gillan can really sing this song well.

  • How can any one dislike this?.....

  • WHAT. WOULD. JESUS THINK. OF. MANKIND TODAY

  • @Jackupnow Mixed feelings, i think.

  • @Jackupnow I'M. NOT. VERY. SURE.

  • wow I've never been religious in my life but this gave me chills. so fucking powerful

  • Almost 40 years later, I saw this in the theater when it came out, and it remains one of the most compelling performances of all time. Well, this and Carl Anderson :)

  • god thy will is hard but you hold every cardddd

  • The this actor is only one of two actor to play Jesus I liked. The only other actor to do a great or better portrayal wal Jim Cavizel in the "The Passion of the Christ."

  • When the painting of Jesus popped up, I was watching this in class (Studyhall) and it scared me so bad, I jumped. When asked what had happened, I replied "Jesus scared me..."

  • Simply the best, no one can compare with him.

  • вы че по русски писать не можете

  • I´ts wonderfull everybody still reacting to this. It`s more than 40 years this where made . I love it

  • Jesus was a FREEDom Fighter with out the bomb :P

    Wee need another

  • I believe this interpretation of Jesus shows us very much the human side of Jesus and what he had to endure as a human to allow us to forgive our sins. This makes me have that much more respect for what he went through.

  • Really study the four Gospels while asking the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of truth) to teach/interpret for you and you will realize how off course and borderline blaspemic the script, lyrics and visuals are. First of all love and committment is what our Holy God is all about and to mix sexually provocative and blurred morality with the beauty of pure selfless, disciplined and Holy Christianity (because of who came down for us not us) is nauseating to me and the Father God.

  • @raisethestandardhigh First of all, I doubt very seriously if you are privy to what does or does not nauseate God. Secondly, having survived the '70's and made it to our current level of hedonism "this" is mild. Thirdly, I knew a priest who found peace in the song "I Don't Know How to Love Him." Finally, it's the message, not the messenger that is most important. If this brings even one person closer to Him, than I say, why not.

  • @raisethestandardhigh Have to respectfully disagree. I didn't think Jesus' message about love and selflessness was corrupted at all in this film. It just brings out a bit more of Jesus' human side that some Christians don't like to talk about for some reason.

  • @raisethestandardhigh You're missing the point. This is a modern impressionistic response to the story of Jesus of Nazareth, not a Christian Orthodox translation from the original Greek. As a Christian I find this musical helpfully provocative and humanly authentic; a great starting point for discussion for the religious, and a useful sidelight into an ancient foreign religion for the secular.

  • incredible talent incredible performance lots of hard work by many...but the loss of the truth is too costly. One needs to know the real Jesus Chist the Savior of the world before they write about Him or portray Him or you miss the whole deal and waste everyone's time and even damage many and distort their faith. Sorry but the truth can prick...

  • @raisethestandardhigh How is the truth lost?

  • Ted Neely is gifted with a voice that can dramatically change pitch and range.. few singers posess this skill(Mariah Carey too)just amazing voice..no one repeat ..no one can do justice to this song except Ted Neely..no offense...it's like Sinatra's My Way or Elvis American Trilogy,John Lennon's Imagine,Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody ,and so on...

  • @MIZZOUFANATIC427 lol, its just as beautiful when you read it in the bible, lol.

  • 5 minutes and 57 seconds of goosebumps....

  • take me now.....before i change my mind.... :(

  • is it crazy that i think his singing has a little guns'n'roses to it?

  • @paulitaa05 yeah! i can hear it the undertones o axl rose sneaking in hehe

  • i so love this whole musical it is amazing, this is really amazing to the point of me thinking this makes sense!!!! I love it.

  • @SapphirePrincess15 What? Thaat version was a fail!! This version has more soul and passion.

  • Jodeeee ni Cristo......

  • Lets settle this for ever. Vote this comment thumbs up if you think that Ian Gillan is the best performer.

  • @crazyskuwanki I had the great fortune to see Ted Neely and Carl Anderson reprise their roles on stage in Omaha, NE at the great Orpheum Theater playing the same roles they played on screen! I will never forget that! Ted Neely and Carl Anderson made these roles for JC Superstar stellar!

  • @nicktesla45 I wouldn't blame it on the actor (he plays the part so well), but I agree otherwise.

  • i love all the songs, but this one especially. it's so amazing.

and ted neely. you amaze me.

  • Something good can even come out from Christianity. Who knew?

  • @Mythification That wasn't necessary. But glad you liked the movie! :)

  • @NeverDoubt1 I have every right to express my opinion, just like you have. But I do like this movie, and I would love to see it live one day =)

  • @Mythification You do have that right of course. Just saying that tone wasn't necessary. But agree to disagree. I do hope the play goes back to Broadway some day. :)

  • @NeverDoubt1 this summer's Stratford Festival production of Superstar is going to Broadway this March! I saw it in Stratford and it was amazing!

  • @holaperu1000 Oh cool, thanks!

  • @NeverDoubt1 Yeah your right. It was pretty much uncalled for, sorry for that. Well I hope you have great Christmas! :)

  • @Mythification It's cool, sorry for harping on it, lol. Happy Holidays to you as well! :)

  • ted neeley тед нили поет лучше гиллана и картера,он лучше всех. ted neeley - superstar.

  • Rush Limbaugh has viewed this 19 times

  • @watkins65 ..I don't think Rush would have a problem with a video of Jesus, as a man before his capture and death, questioning God in a musical with hippies, about the reasons he is about to be brutally displayed..even he knows Jesus was both God and Man.

  • hahahhaahhahahaha vai jesus christ superstar

  • this guy is amazing, and he did this again in 2006 on stage, was even better then. He only gets better with age.

  • Believer or not, this video should have just as many thumbs up as it has views..Simply outstanding vocals. Chris Connell from "Sound Garden" I believe, is the only person today who could hit every note in this song and make you feel it like Ted did.

  • Sorry guys, have heard the Balsamo version... it is nothing compared to this. THIS is it.

  • @WhiteRabbitm8te Actually, the Bible says that Jesus never showed any fear or doubt of his death, and he was 100% sure why it was happening, but in this song, you see while I love the song I hate its message! See Jesus is God-at least that's what I believe- and this song just interprets him as a mere mortal man, scared and unsure of his death.

  • @Schoolgirl325 Actually, in the bible, Jesus does pray in the Garden and asks God to take the "Cup away from him." Yes, Jesus is God, but he is also human and he was scared. Who wouldn't be in facing such a horrific death. It says he prayed so hard he sweat blood. Look it up... Matthew 26:36-46
