  • Thanks for such a comprehensive tutorial! This is incredibly valuable info. So generous of you to spread the wealth of knowledge you have! Thanks again! :)

  • O...M...G..THANKS SO MUCH

  • Excited to order things and do my own if they come out good I think ill make some for my friends birthday !!!!

  • wow! loads of info! do you think it's ok if i just spritz my powdery blushes with alcohol? i don't have the binders here. and i don't think we have it in the country. thanks a lot! enjoyed watching this lengthy tutorial. <3

  • Hella good video, exactly what I needed to know, so thank you and keep making videos, because they are awesome!

  • Really nice video, do you make lip glosses or tinted lip balms? i am looking for some good tutorials on that :)

  • How can anyone dislike this?! This girl is a freaking genius!!

  • Great explanation

  • Excellent video. You go girl!

    Take Care!

  • wait? so if i just buy loose powders, i would only have to use alcohol?

  • @yepess91 Only for the Mac pigments.

  • this is awesome! thanks for sharing! :)

  • 5sf brought me here..

  • Can you use water?

  • Ok so let me get this straight

For straight colors u jus use alcohol, for the micas or the ones with shimmer or glitter u use alcohol and the medium, to make ur own color u use two colors of ur choice and the base texture with alcohol but if it's a shimmer type u use the two the base alcohol and medium plz respond I want to know before buying a ass of stuff

  • @dimplezcutec Im about to order these as well, and im pretty sure its like this. For the micas you have to use a mixing medium since they dont have a binding agent in them yet. If you are fixing a broken eyeshadow you can use only alcohol since it was already pressed and had the binding agent in it already, or the mac pigments since they already have the binder in them already.. hOpe this helps :)

  • @dimplezcutec for mac pigments or any eyeshadow that seems slight creamy or oily to begin with you only need alcohol. For micas you can use however many colours you want to get the shade you like but you have to use both the medium and the alcohol. For matte oxides you will need to grind it with the texture powder before adding the medium and the alcohol. Hope that helps :)

  • I tried to see the blush tutorial from wet and wild that you mention and it says video has been removed

  • Are you canadian? because when you say 'out' and 'eh' you really sound like you're from canada! ll =P

  • Ur great I subbed :)

  • how much does this stuff cost??

  • Great video and super informative. You say "um.." a lot though.

  • I tried the glycerin and it was packed to hard and wouldn't go on to my brush so I am ordering from TKB.

  • thanks that was super useful!

  • A good way to recycle is to clean out bottle lids (small ones) and press the shadows in to then they just take wax paper and tape or foil to make a lid

  • just using the tkb texture base with these do they blend well?

  • Fantastic video thank you! Have just ordered a heap of stuff from TKB; you should be on commission!! Am desperate for a very dark matte navy and a deep dark matte brown so maybe now I can custom blend myself :-)

  • Wonderful tutorial!!!! I love that you took your time to extend the knowledge I can imagine it took a while for you to acquire. Now I can go on the TKB site & know what the heck I'm ordering. Thanks so much!!!

  • best video ever!!! amazing and informative....you ANSWERED ALMOST EVERY QUESTION!! so giving tkb a try!!

  • Say for instance I wanted to make more than one of each time, could I perhaps mix the colors and medium in a bag and almost pipe them into the pans?

  • Thanks for the info.

  • How much do you have left over when you make one little pan using the sample size TKB products? How many pans do you think you could make?

  • i love this video.....you did a awesome job explaining. i am in the process of making my own shadows but having a very hard time. i know you briefly went over oxide colors, now i have some can you explain how i can make those colors look better and give a better appeal instead of looking so dry.

  • This is like super cool. I have a few shadows lying around that I dont use and I'm so doing this now to get new colours! :) Thanks

  • Where can you get the pots from? Thank you in advance. Great informative video!

  • Love your informational video, great job, well done!

    Thank you!!

  • Ratios for the sparay to make the powders less powdery?

  • When you use the spray bottle with the mixture of the binder and the alcohol, how much of each do you put in there? Ratios?

  • When you say that your lime green shadow and the indian blue one are "simply straight-up mica" do you mean you just used a pressing medium and nothing else? Or did you also use a white powder base but not any other pure pigment (like green oxide or something).

    Thanks!

  • Hey, great video, so informative. My only question being that when I've pressed my pigments, there is an alcohol smell that remains. I'm wondering if this has happened to others and if anyone has any suggestions as to how to get rid of the smell? Thanks!

  • the mica you used in this video was it the sample size?

  • the mica you used in this video was it the sample size?

  • This is a great video, thanks!

  • Which alkohol do you use? Where can you buy it? I live in Germany...

  • Do you think I would get the same results if I sprayed just alcohol on my Wet n Wild blush

  • I have some questions do you add the mica for shimmery effect or does majority of these powders already have the shimmer in them? Oh for the bonding do you use that al the time for TKB products ?

  • BEST pressing tutorial on youtube! Thanks! I added this to my favorites!

  • Looooove it... Very informative...

  • Great video! Helpful

  • Great video! Can't wait to have a go. Could you do this with loose powder foundations? What would you use to bind it then because i think the alcohol would be quite irritating? :)

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! ♥ I literally sat here and watched the whole thing SOOO amused (although it doesnt take much for me, lol). But OMGHHKP, so informative love it.

  • this was the most fascinating video i have ever watched hahah

  • You are the first person I truly enjoyed watching, very informative and I did not get bored... Thanks for the VID!

  • Fantastic video. I have been pressing my Bare Minerals powders/pigments and I am so happy with the results. xx

  • Thanksss !!! very useful

  • useful info

  • could you do a vid on pressing matte pigments? As the texture of the blue matte pressed pigment you showed at 02:05 looks so perfect and i believe most people have a problem pressing matte pigments

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome.

  • Cool idea! I have all the baked blushes/eyeshadows from TBS and I managed to drop one on the floor so it split in three. Its still usable, but for some reason I never grab it anymore. So will try the idea you did with the body shop eyeshadows in a stackable jar I have and give it some new life!

  • This video was very well done and extremely interesting! It's the best videos on how to press micas and pigments!

  • question the TKB sample baggies you got what size are they the 1oz?

  • This video is fantastic! Gave me a lot of ideas for my own shadows. Thanks! :D

  • just came acroos ur video, nice tips pls i live in germany and would really love to buy the mixing meduim stuff please where can i get it online? thanks

  • @grovvybebby Danke ...aber ich habe schon der EZ press und mica pigments vom Coastalscent ( USA)bestellt...aus Kiel..i would still love to have the TKB's...wie viel kostet die sammelung?

  • I am so glad that I came across this video. I am a make up newbie and I was looking everywhere to find the name of the company where they make the loose pigments in the bags and you did a great demo showing how to put them in the pans and the jars. Thank You so much, I really appreciate this video and you explaining it so thoroughly :)

  • Thank you so much for this video. I wasn't aware of the "binding" method. No wonder my mica pigments turned powdery again after pressing them lol. Awesome video! Very helpful :)

  • Great vid love the idea of the stackables I have more than 60 pigments in small jars and I was going to put them in palettes now I can use the same containers they are in thanks

  • Sorry typo I meant it didn't work well

  • Hey quick question I asked on the forum but didn't get the answer I needed when pressing matte shades do I use the same method as mica I tried it and it did work well can you explain what I'm doing wrong with the matte shades

  • somehow it didn't work for my mac pigment [vanilla and melon]. they fell apart.

  • I love this video so much! I've used your tips to create several awesome colors and mixes, and your pressing technique works wonderfully!

Thank you for another wonderful video!

  • Great video! and I watched til the end and i'm sure i will be referring back to it many times. lol great job and tons of great info

  • thanks for the great video! really got me interested in doing this all for myself...i ordered some mica from tkb and after i put pressed some of the pigments-a few ended up being really hard and hardly came off of the brush...some ended up kind of powdery after using a brush to pick up some of the product after pressing it...just wondering if you could try and shed some light on this for me...thanks again :)

  • Hey! Thanks so much for making this video- it's so helpful in so many ways!!! I had a question though- what size pan are you using for the eyeshadow in this video? Thanks for making such helpful videos!

  • Thanks. very informative I have a few questions if you don't mind. Which pressing method do you recommend

    1. micas with just alcohol, or with pressing medium and alcohol. why

    2. pigments with alcohol

    3. hydrogenated polly stuff..what's that used for?

    4. what's the size of a MAC shadow pot? I would like to buy empty pallets. I find pigments/micas are a lil to messy. lol

    Thanks for your advise/help

  • @lowashington Micas need a binder such as a pressing medium or they won't dry properly and stay in place. They will fluff up and make a mess if no binder is used. 2. Pigments with alcohol is fine unless the pigment has glitter in which you need a binder or pressing medium to hold the glitters in place. 3. hydrogenated polly stuff isn't typically used in eyeshadows. That is more for some foundations and other beauty products. 4. 26mm round pans are the size of MAC eyeshadow pans.

  • @lowashington The hydrogenated poly stuff can be used to press eyeshadow but you don't have to use it. A lot of companies don't use that. It just depends on how much you want to spend and whether you like the texture of the shadow when it's pressed. I hope that helps you some! :-D

  • if i wanted to brake up a eyeshadow already pressed and mixed two colors would i hace to use a pressing medium

  • how long did it take to ship the tkb trading stuff you got

  • This is great I'm so glad i found your channel, I've watched a few of your video's now and I can really learn alot from you, I've definitely subcribed to you :) xx

  • Wow! That's amazing! I never knew you could make your own makeup!

  • Thanks so much for the video it was really informative !

Question though for the non matte micas like the one you pressed should i add another base to it ? like the MyMix Press Base or the Extender White i am a little confused as how to do it

  • THis is he best video that I have seen yet on pressing shadows. You make me feel like I can do it. LOL. Thank you for sharing. BTW. I am deff subbing. I will be playing catch up on your other great ideas.

  • I must say this was a very great view I am going to order some from TKB and create my own after watching your video I took one of my NYX products and looked at the back and sure enought Mica is one of the substance they use

  • The video and U...Rock! I am a subbie 4 life!!! Thank you, I learned so much!

  • VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION (: if i were to press just the straight up mica without the texture base is it true that it will not stay on your eye very long? or is that not true (: haha ??

  • @DivaDarlingChic not necessarily true, though I almost always use some sort of a sticky base before mineral shadows to make them stay longer. Primer also.

  • Hi quick question so if I wanted to create a blush can I do that and if so which powder would I use

  • @tati982000 I would really suggest trying more than one powder, some are more sheer, like the silk mica, it really depends what you are looking for. The TKB forum is a great place to learn :)

  • Hey, your video is great, I just have two question about pressing micas from TKB trading.

    1. The binder you were using isn't available at TKB anymore, is glycerin a good alternative?

    2. Is glycerin/binder enough to make the micas usable as eyeshadows, or should I add some of the Matte Base too?

    Thanks

  • @silverarya there are quite a few options still available at TKB, you just have to look around:) Glycerine would work, but I definitely don't think it's as nice, since it has a sort of greasy/sticky feel. I would definitely add a base if you're only using glycerine (just my opinion though, I know others have done it without)

  • Really great video! so thorough! I have a question: how many pressed pans could you get from one jar of mac pigment? Just wondering. Thanks! :)

  • @Donaspet I think about 4-5, depends on what pigment it is, as some are more dense than others

  • How long does it generally take the pigments to dry after they've been mixed in a pan, but prior to pressing?

    Thanks for the great tutorial.

  • @kimkap85 it reallllllllllly depends. If the shadow has high oxides/pure pigment, it'll take longer than just mica, because it's heavier... you just have to go by eye.

  • @beautynewbie

Thanks so much! I actually got too anxiously excited/impatient and just went ahead and pressed the pigments I'd mixed. They were actually dry enough... drier than they looked. Now I have a pretty good idea of what it'll take with the next few. So I understand what you mean. Thanks again. :-)

  • Btw I forgot to thank you cause of my over excitement but I really appreciate for the video timeline, very helpful. I own all the Wet n Wild blushes and I'm glad for your pointer on solving that fall out issue. I was wondering how much of the alcohol and mixing binder did you mix together? Much appreciated if you have time to answer back. B-)

  • After watching this I just had to subscribe. Awesome tute. I learned a lot and I'm passing this video on.

  • This video just gave me an AH HA moment ;) Thank you for this!!!!

  • thank you so much for sharing....you made it very understandable with detail... not i must try it.. it seem like alot of fun with the end result...

  • OMG first off A MILLIONS STARTS FOR THE EXCELLENT EXPLANATION.. I have a Q tho.. I have nyx's pearl loose eysahdows in the stackable jars. I rather press them in the jars then transferring them to pans. I dont think I can just press like u did. Would you recommend using the alcohol and pressing spray, mixing it up and then pressing???

  • wow. look how your organization is in the info bar. amazing. this video. is amazing. omg.

  • u said 'eh'... "ice cream cone 'eh'"... omg i love u... i'm Canadian too and ur vdos really help me figure out what to get where... <3

  • can you send me it

  • you are AWESOME

  • YOU ARE SOO SMART ! <3 you

  • are urban decay pigments like MAC pigments in the sense of pressing them??

  • hey how do you find tkb eyeshadows do you use them on a every day basis?

  • how did you grind the oxide and the base?

  • @MariaDJ58 i used my magic bullet, but you can also use a mortar and pestle

  • Would you be able to use glycerin instead of the binder? Because i bought a bottle for like 17 bucks and i would like to use that up lol

  • @jayArfArf You can use glycerin... but I've always found it to be too greasy feeling... I've also read that it goes bad more quickly than dimethicone-based products. But tr it! If you have a bunch of it, it can't hurt to experiment :)

  • How long did you leave the pans to set before you pressed them? Was it only the time that lapsed in the video or was it longer?

  • Brilliant tutorial!

  • Thank you for taking the time to teach us all, you rock girl!!!!

  • how can i make a matte pressed eyeshadow? :S

  • @toxiczombeh the same way--- you'd use an oxide/ultramarine etc. ,in place of shimmery mica, and mix with a base

  • @beautynewbie by a 'base' do you mean a color... like one of the POP colors and then mix it with an oxide???

  • @eeyorevcl no, I mean a white base-- like the "TKB Base". You get it when you order the eyeshadow kit-- or you can buy it separately

  • @eeyorevcl Thanks so much for responding back :D sorry its soo confusing to me but i understand more from u than anyone :).. Now that i did my research I am kinda more familiar with it lol. I was getting myself confused with the pressing base and the tkb's matte texture base. Have you tried pressing eyeshadows in those stackable jars that are not creamy??? did you just mix the loose shadow with the liquid binder? and or did u use alcohol as well??

  • @eeyorevcl the pressing MEDIUM I talk about is a liquid, the TKB base is a powder. In the stacks I just pressed the eyeshadows, they are not creams, they are powders :)

  • How big is the bottle of your Binder?

  • @fanntarded I think it's the fl oz one... doesn't say on the bottle, so I'm not sure?

  • I've noticed some people leave their eyeshadows under heavy books (dictionary, encyclopedia etc.) overnight to make sure the eyeshadow is pressed in properly, is that really necessary in your opinion?

  • @wadadlibabe totally not necessary, lol. I like to get it done quicker :)

  • Thanks for making this video! I have started pressing all of my micas and it does make them so much easier to use. It does seem to make them more pigmented and vibrant ;)

  • How big is your mixing medium bottle? Is it 2 oz? or just ½ oz?

  • I think you explained very well :) Just saying. You inspired me to do my own shadows :) And that site is like crazy cheep!

  • wow I love the timelinks! You really made it convenient! thank!

  • Hi, I would like to know how much of the MICA product did you purchase, a sample? 1 ounce? Thanks

  • @mim3xy it says on their site. About a tbsp is a sample size

  • I love the whole sounding like Koren. That was cute. I love him! This was a great video and very easy to understand. :-D

  • The bags from tkb that you had were those samples or a different size?

  • This may sound cheesy but you seriously inspire me. i feel excited and its been a while since i could see myself creating things since i have been very ill for some time now so i just really want to say thank you for sharing this inofrmation and this fun way to enjoy makeup... you are amazing :)

  • @HelloSexKitten awww- I'm glad you are better! Thank you for such a sweet compliment :) MAKING MAKEUP IS SO FUN!!!! hahah

  • what is the nail polish you have on? it's so pretty!,also this video is so informative and is truely a great video. it did not feel like 26 minutes long!:)

  • Were can i get the makeup Pans From like a store that i can just go pick them up with out having to order them from a online store

  • @BlkBarbieMkeUp I don't know :(

  • @BlkBarbieMkeUp maybe a sallys beauty store? they sell a lot of salon and makeup suplies.

  • AWESOME video! very informative and I never thought of using the stackables for pressing. good job!!

  • this was amazingly informative!!

  • This video is positively awesome in so many ways. So creative!

  • You are very thorough.....great job!

  • Thanks so much I had looked at alot of videos on pressing shadows but you went beyond and gave a whole course on it including saying diferent outcomes you had, you are great.

  • I really like the stackable, pressed tips! I've lost a few cracked eyeshadows. Even, one went all-over in my purse. So, pressing them again would have been great to do. Do you have any suggestions on purchasing something in a store as a pressing medium? Thanks for the video!

  • @BargainClipper I know a few people have pressed eyeshadows with Bio-SILK.. BUT I don't recommend it because who knows if it's safe for the eyes! I also know you can use 100% cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil, but I'm not sure on the expiry date (I know it's a long time--- like a year +) <3

  • @beautynewbie Thank you for the information. I don't know about those "alternatives" either :-?, but I was just curious.

  • @BargainClipper i heard that you can mix glycerin and alcohol and get the same effect and you can find glycerin at like walmart target cvs etc.

  • @xHarajukuBarbiex Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Where did you get those stackable jars?

  • Lol whwen you said it looks like a little ice cream cone that was exactly what i said but mine was followed by an ' aww ' haha .. nice job ... keep up the good work your doing fantabulous xD X

  • @anastasia19993 hahah <3

  • this is one of the beauty tutorials I have EVER watched on youtube.

  • you oughta do a giveaway of your favorite pigments or something. this is really interesting! thank you for sharing. :]

  • is it possible to use the powders without pressing them? do they come out just as nice?

  • This was an awesome tutorial. I really learned a lot. Thanks!

  • Superb tutorial!!!

By far the best I have seen yet on this subject.

    Thanks a bunch

  • I was wondering about the mica powders from TKB, I bought some matte micas and when I pressed them one turned into like a hard rock and I cant use it and the other one ended up cracking i was wondering if you could help me? Thanks

  • @marry209 hard rock= too much binder, or too much unrefined oxides... cracking= too much alcohol possibly.... mattes are very difficult to press, and it really depends on the matte your pressing. it's mostly trial and error... but I will usually put a small amount of alcohol and binder, like 1 dot and then put some minerals in... then spray instead of pour the binder and alcohol in, in short sprays.

  • @beautynewbie thanks for your help :)

  • Great Video!

  • You did a great job at explaining everything.... thanks so much. A video would be great on how to mix the TKB trading mica. ;)

  • what is the name of the darkest blue eyeshadow you have in you palette? last row, in the middle?

  • @GinnyK101 annabelle's B-Ray.. it was limited edition, but you can get a MAC matte shadow called Prussian (I think) that is the same shade. It's basically a deep dark matte navy.

  • this is by far my favorite tutorial EVER from any beauty guru. thank you so much :) thank you SO much. i was planning on purchasing stuff from tkb this week to work on making my own makeup but i had a huge dental emergency thus a huge bill. but as soon as i can muy some stuff from tkb i will definitely try your advice. you are very inspirational, down to earth, and creative :) definitely favoriting this video not only on youtube but my browser favorites :)

  • @bghdz WOW--- thank you so so so much. It feels great to be appreciated! xxoo

  • Love love love the video!!! My question is when buy those store bought loose pigments do u need a binder and/or alcohol to press?

  • i have alot of shadows to press
