she is adorable and I am glad that Mia has Korean mother so she can understand a little bit of Korean culture but I think the father is a great guy....Mia has a great future!
I agree. I think it is more economic than any law of evolution. This country is somewhat well off economically and it results in us being able to afford all the fees, etc. I think if the situation was reversed you would probably have the reverse effect.
When we enrolled Mia in school a few months ago they found out she came from Korea and assigned her to a remedial class with people who are struggling. Once they had her in class for a week they just reassigned her to the 1st grade class when the Kindergartners are reading. Nothing we did, she is just naturally very smart and learns at a very fast rate. She is reading real books now and every day comes home with new vocabulary words. She is my only child so it is still very interesting to watch.
Oh, by the way, she was almost 6 years old when we got her. As far as the comment on "letting her keep" her Chinese language: She doesn't want it. Refuses to go to class or listen to Chinese CD's or DVD's. I don't push it anymore. She just isn't comfortable with it right now. One day she will want to learn it again...and she will.
We adopted my daughter from China over a year ago and it is possible that she won't qualify for ELL services this year. Her English language skills are incredible. But I taught ESL for years and wasn't really worried!
Kids are like sponges- they are able to learn a several languages at the same time. Being a bilingual would only benefit her. I am so glad that my adopted parents encouraged me to keep the Korean side of me, including the language.
My wife likes the "oriental music". Also, my wife is first generation Korean and they speak only Korean in the house while my daughter and I speak only English. Picking music is tough sometimes as you need something that fits the story you are trying to tell as well as what you can use do yo copyright laws.
She's beautiful and lucky to be in such a great loving family! :)
all the best for Mia and you guys!

The koreans should also be allowed to adopt white kids although it sounds like going opposite to nature's law of evolution.

Her English is so good now, she reads books to me. It is twice as good as when this video was taken a few months ago.
