i think.. the press makes fun of ppl like Paris and Britney spears, and show all this negativity, because that brings them in money. because the public wants something like this.. something to make them feel like they are better than ppl like Paris and Britney...
I think he's one of the greatest artists of Lithuania. His ideas are genius. Paris was just an example of how person can change. I don't believe she's changed, and it's obvious that Mr Mekas doesn't believe it too. But it's always worth trying to change yourself, that's the idea. "We have become so sceptical, so negative." Try to notice good things. Leave behind all bad things and look up.
i love this man because..well,in october 2008 he was here in lucca ,italy, for our small film festival and he's visited all bars of the county...great sponge
Paris Hilton is not the piont of his statement "hairysamurai", apruppt and definite change of a person, is. The fact that we learn, that we CAN change. He only dedecated it 2 her. He is not a wacko, not an old rag, but someone who inspires so much and many people in the art scene....all over the world.
God bless Mr. Jonas Mekas. Seems he is still fighting even after I last met him. But I really think we shouldn't bother thinking about Paris hilton. We should all stop talking about her period. I don'T care.
@hairysamurai Then you have missed the radical nature of his statements. The fact that Jonas is discussing this is amazing. A great artist who has deep compassion for the world, He sees these women being mistreated as artists - and he is ready to defend them as artists (Britney and Paris alike). I love that he is talking about Paris. Brilliant stuff.
how can we push forward the concerns of avant-garde film and modernism, and deal with the way video and internet has made viewing a less immediately collective experience but still get new work out there that draws on previous innovations but pushes them forward and finds a new audience for this in new terms, and I thought this did that wonderfully from the title through to the uncompromising content...

Why do avant gardists love Hilton? Is she the only dream left for our post-capitalist death trip of a continent? The last gasp of a failing dream?

Maybe they think of her as this generation's Edie Sedgwick.

who else made a film about her?
