  • 223 mph. so much better than nascar. i grew up with this race.

  • When you go there, they sell you headphones so you can here your drivers communication with thier team. Its really cool!!!

  • I was there! i wasn't watchin it on tv, i really was there! my dad goes there every year, im going again this year, its much more fun when you are there then when you are watchin it on TV...... :)

  • These cars only have 600hp but hit 230MPH (370kph) at Indy, that gives you some perspective on how little downforce they are using compared to F1, they are pushing it to the limit on grip on every corner just for speed on the straights

  • To think Dan led only one lap, the last, the one that counts. Like his friend Jenson Button in Canada the same year. RestInPeaceDW

  • 02:21

    Hahahahahahaha

  • the indy 500 is the oldest continueous raing event for a reason. Who cares if its just left turns. monza is mostly right turns and so was brooklands

  • Ecclestone Formula one spoils!!

  • I try to watch every f1 race, I ALWAYS fall asleep, sorry I love Indy cars!

  • I think Indycar is good as F1.

  • @Darktime9000 hahahahhhahahahahhahahahaha =) i like indycar too but F1 is the king of motorsports and none can even touch it over there...

  • @sammieboj F1 has become so boring since the V10-era ended. Nowadays IndyCar is much more fun to watch, I like the variety with both ovals and road courses, and the tickets are much cheaper lol. F1 is all about money, IC still let talents drive. Take F1 driver Maldonado for example, he sucks, but Williams keep him around because he has some south american oil sponsor that gives the team a shit load of money. I started watching NASCAR this year, and I have to say it's currently better than F1.

  • @sammieboj Yeah, but we're talking about good racing. i.e--passing, side-by-side action, and overall close racing. If it were a competition of over-priced, overrated, and unexciting racing, F1 would take the cake; no doubt.

  • Indy is sooooooo lame, in fact all yank racing is lame, you're either racibg on an oval or a 1/4 mile. Boring as fuck. F1 is sooooo much better.

  • they say indycar is 15 year behind F1, but I havent seen a race in F1 that could compare to this in years.

  • @jamesthunderful are you serious? put f1 cars on a dumb ring raceway and you'll get a race twice as interesting as this

  • @guitarrmasta Really? Ever watched the 2005 United States Grand Prix?

  • @WilVincent88 yes i did, and if you had watched it, you should have known by now it was in the indy road course, not the ring smart pants

  • So the reason all but 6 drivers race had nothing to do with the fact their poor little tyres couldn't handle 12 little degrees of banking at two thirds of the speed of what the IndyCar drivers do? I must have been watching a different race, as in my one, about 35-40% of the oval is used...

  • @WilVincent88 thats is why indy cars are designed around this dumb ring raceways... i dont see any indy car doing shit in a circuit so you have no point. About the tires, you still have no point because theres a million different tire options for each race, meaning the poorly designed road course in indy couldnt allow that race

  • @guitarrmasta half of the indycar races are on circuits

  • @Bzking23 5/16 races are on ovals. That is less than half.

  • Losing it cost Hilderbrand the 500 but cost Wheldon his life.

  • How many commercial breaks are during the indy 500?

  • commentators are so wank

  • R.I.P. Dan Wheldon.

  • R.I.P. Dan

  • @kwmballar1 FUCK YOU. Wheldon was an icon....

  • R.I.P. Dan...Indy is just not going to be the same without you =(

  • Rest in Peace Dan. Wow.

  • lmao put it in reverse 4:50

  • Im a huge NASCAR fan, but im starting to get into openwheel racing, and im still learning about it all. IRL and F1, at first i wasnt into it very much, but its actually pretty cool. I dont know why people diss this stuff. its some good racing sometimes.

  • and a left corner... and a left corner... and a left corner... and a left corner... and a left corner...

  • notice the the guy in the bush at 3:46

  • "Worlds greatest race course" ... really ?!? Is that bigger than Monza, Spa, Monaco ?!? Gotta be kidding ....

  • @Tyler83Mr Indi500 , monaco grand prix and Le mans 24h are considered the 3 greatest motoring events in a year, even though i personally dont like this track

  • @Tyler83Mr Monaco may be historic but there's barely any overtaking, at least you get it in indy. Still though I do agree with you on monza and spa, and a few other classics.

  • @Tyler83Mr Thing is, has Monaco, Monza, or Spa been around as long as IMS? No. So it is the greatest for that reason and many more reasons.

  • 2:10 wtf how many cars are in the pits? in f1 its all single-file with drivethru penalties for unsafe releases. this indy pit stuff is CRAZY!

  • if you go too fast in an F1 car, will the areo dynamics make it lose control?

  • @GTSRyan no

  • @wallyroyal thanks, I was just wondering because a driver flipped and they said he was putting too much gas in it, the driver died, just wondering...

  • 13:15 that was a huge WTF moment right there.

  • Hidebrand made a new fan after this, feel so bad for him. Dude is gonna be an awesome driver later in his career, no doubt about it.

  • Wheldon is a fucking cocksucker. Good driver but I personally can't stand his girly attitude

  • what a race

  • afterall who won the race??

    wheldon won the race right?

  • indycarz and nascar r the best motorized sports ever!!!!

  • @Pedrohksgreddyturbo I don't think so... but it's your opinion.

  • @Pedrohksgreddyturbo hahaha =) turning left, turning left, turning left, I'm amazed how boring and unchallenging these two sports are...

  • @struckar86 you are incapable of understanding how big of a challenge this can be, i bet you dont know much about racing, you think nascar is stupid too? i bet your into that drifting, but its cool, theres nothing wrong with that as you grow more knowledge of motorsports then you will understand how it not just left turns, don't be superficial. Dont you think about what the drivers are enduring, your senses at 100% for so many laps, plus all the mechanical aspects, gas tire wear Indy racing=SMART

  • @Pedrohksgreddyturbo someone has obviously never seen a race where there is more than a left turn, if you want fast cars and true racing f1 is the place to go, granted these guys have to endure high g's but thats it, be honest you only watch it for the crashes, i mean look how LITTLE amount of people were in the crowd then look at an F1 grand prix, point proven

  • Who lost his rear wheel, at 2:24-2:25?

  • @bd271296 will power

  • @MrSkittlez1234 thank's. I didn't understand what those commentators said ;)

  • @bd271296 yea they suk... i wuz at this race

  • classic race

  • Bring this track back to F1 again!!!

  • Totally pathetic commentary! Sounds like Dumb and Dumber commentating a horse race!

  • Great to see at Goodwood Festival of Speed so many historic Indy 500 cars in the paddock and on the hillclimb to celebrate your 100 years of racing. Awesome sight of the marching band and 33 car starting grid, one to always remember

  • wow it aint over til its over if i was him i would hate myself

  • Viso u dumass u jack it every year

  • where is danica??

  • I was here and when I saw JR Hildebrand take the white flag i though he was gonna win.... the i saw his wrecked car slide passed me..... anything can happen

  • i think its great commetary

  • The announcers are a combination of the IMS radio network and the speedway's public address system

  • Who the hell did they get as commentators? They suck!

  • i agree with you to an extent but its like marco andretti said after his 2006 race at indy your first or its nothing. to have it soo close and make a mistake like that he will be kicking his own ass for years to come. but i do agree with you it was an amazing drive and if he would have won it he earned it.

happy 100th birthday indy heres to another 100.

  • among the most exciting race of all time

  • Final de película, increíble. Esto solo puede pasar en la Indy 500.

    Saludos desde Perú.

  • was my first race - awesome! Can't wait to go again.

  • probably the worst commentary for a race i've ever heard

  • @96texan u u didn't hear polish F1 commentator :x

  • @96texan probably because these commentators are from the ims radio network, it seems kinda weird if you see the pictures to radio commentation

  • @96texan It is. ever since Tom Carnagie retired, this guy took over and just ruined the commentary. He just likes to hear himself talk because he repeats everything like 4 times

  • @96texan : Need Paul Page and Sam Posey back.

  • @96texan you should watch the 2005 Indy 500, the commentary is a million times worse than this.

  • Great RACE. HAPPY TO BE THERE. THIS IS GOOD COVERAGE. HAPPY ONW HUNDRED BIRTHDAY iNDIANAPOLIS 500

  • AS YOU CAN SEE AT 14:33 LAWS OF PHYSICS DIDNT ALLOW THE CAR TO TURN EVEN THOUGHT HE HAD THE WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT CAR STILL WOULDNT TURN

  • "IT AINT OVER UNTIL YOU PASS THE CHECKERED FLAG" i love endings ;like this send shivers up the spine if he pulled it off it would be the same as Trevor Bayne winning daytona 500

  • What a race, so much passing...so much action....oh man!!!!

  • @acasouk Are you serious!?

  • @THEkingjaymz Your crazy! A car (Jimmie Johnson) blew an engine and there was oil all over the track. How is that not reason to throw a yellow!?

  • How can a rookie possibly be upset to go run there first Indy 500, get to start 12 in front of competitive teams like Briscoe, Castroneves, and any Andretti car, get rookie of the race, get to lead, and finish on the podium!?!?!?.... Like that.......

  • @AlexMacIsKING ndy your first or its nothing. to have it soo close and make a mistake like that he will be kicking his own ass for years to come. but i do agree with you it was an amazing drive and if he would have won it he earned it.

happy 100th birthday indy heres to another 100.

  • @PhilipTheBigOne Your fantasy team may have been better if you didn't pick a driver for their boobs

  • Best 500 in awhile, by far.

  • Outstanding race this year. All sorts of drama and this race had everything this sport needed.

  • JR Hildebrand = FAIL!

  • this was one crazy race esp. on the last lap! JR Hildebrand must be sad and angry at the same time.

  • Can we all agree that this beat the hell out of the boring and staged Coke 600?

  • @THEkingjaymz You've got to be joking. Are you nuts? The 600 was every bit as exciting. You obviously didn't watch the race.

  • Comment removed

  • @recked14 haha No other race will compare to Indy. Ever. The fact that Nascar kept the green flag out when Earnhardt Jr. was leading is a joke. Too bad he couldn't win with Nascar's help, both National Guard cars bit the dust that day. One of the best Indy 500's I have ever seen, amazing. It never disappoints.

  • good clip, but they shoulda showed Dario's and JR's strategy pit and also showed Dixon and Dario slowing down toward the end. That is why JR got the lead.

  • was there, it was excellent!!

  • Unbelieveable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the best 500 ever in 100 years.

  • @arcebrasil i wouldn't say the best i can think of a few that were better or as good but it is for sure in the top ten.:)

  • My Fantasy Team would be a lot better had Dario and Danica not run out of fuel!!!

  • WHAT A FINISH!!! Unbelievable!!!

So happy for Wheldon, I picked him at Fantasy!!! Unfortunately, Tagliani crashed and what happened to Simona? They say handling issues...

  • @PhilipTheBigOne she brushed the wall and knocked the car out of alignment. was never the same. better to pack it in than have something break and tear the car up and/or hurt yourself

  • @acuraboy101: Yeah. In her condition especially... What a shame though, she had a nice story coming in the race, let's hope she does well in Texas.

Now that I said Texas, WHAT THE FUCK is with the Twin 275s? Are they gonna have half points in each race, or half the field in each one? PLEASE ANSWER!!!

  • @PhilipTheBigOne It will be half points awarded, with a full field in each race.

  • @Gamer90235: I found out about it (had a conversation about it on Facebook). Thanks though. Do you know how the starting grid will be set for Race 2?

  • @PhilipTheBigOne As far as I know, It will be via a random draw

  • Was a phenomenal race!!! Great to see Dan win again in a part time ride and in such spectacular fashion. Though, I'm most excited about Will Power's "comeback." Considering he did a lap without a tire, 14th is awesome! *at least I think so)

  • i m sad for J.R. better luck next year

  • looked like a decent race. i was at work so i missed it. but im glad i caught the highlights at least. congrats to dan wheldon, he has an amazing record at the indy 500.

  • I know a lot of my friends have wondered why I'm such a huge auto racing fan. This is why. The last thirty laps were so tense.

  • it aint over til its over

  • What a surreal finish!!!

  • Okay, i posted my comment before finishing watching the video. Mike King, are you kidding me? You are the voice of IMS Radio, you are the conductor of all the reporters, AND YOU DONT KNOW WHO WAS RUNNING 2ND??? YOU TOTALLY BLOW THE FINAL HALF MILE OF A 500 MI RACE........

  • @kgb474 Well, to speak in their defense, Wheldon was not 2nd going into the final lap. It didn't help that both Dixon and Franchitti ran out of fuel.

  • Seriously, the racing was fantastic, Dave Colabro and Mike King were great. But really, if you dont know what venue this is (RUSTY W.) or dont know what corner you're talking about (its not hard, there are only 4), then its time to hang up the microphone. I know its 'heat of the moment' comintating, but i could do a better job. But i dont have a degree in journalism.

  • Remember some names...Kevin Cogan, Scott Goodyear, Michael Andretti...J.R. Hidebrand. He will live with this one until he wins Indy, or until the end of his days, whichever comes first. And he will never have the chance to be a rookie who won Indy again. But the question remains, HOW, WHY, WHY, WHY? Why did he have to go up high, why did he have to pass a lapped car in THE LAST CORNER. People say Indy was exciting this year. I saw it as disappointing, sad and non-sensical.

  • @gurlsingerfan, yes, JR was the driver behind the wheel, fault totally lies on his shoulders. But here is another equally important question. Why didn't Kimball's spotter in T3 tell him to take the warm-up lane before JR got to them? Seriously, why not take the warm up in 3 even, much less turn 4 when you got a leader behind you, and you're 50 mph off the pace. There was no reason for Kimball to be there. But if i were JR, and i know i had a 3-4 second lead, i'd have lifted between 3 and 4

  • @kgb474 It is true that Kimball could not have been in a worse place at a worse time for the leaders to come up on him, and he was going surprisingly slow to be on the race line and the leaders coming up behind him on the last lap. It is also true that drivers had been going too far up the track all day at this corner. This should have meant that Hildebrand would have had all the warning not to go high here. The big difference: Hildabrand had a race to win or lose. :-(

  • @gurlsingerfan I guess we could say 1 rookie + 1 rookie at closing lap = major missed opportunity. But I was rooting for J.R., I guess that is why I was disappointed, (I wasn't beating up on him, even if it sounded like it, I was playing the WHY game (which in auto racing is often somewhat pointless. oh well, better luck to him next year. :-)

  • best indy 500 yet

  • JR should have won that. if he had slowed behind Kimball until the front stretch he would have won

  • With a long night of work, I had fallen asleep for half the race, but was pleasantly abruptly woken up for the finish by the commentators.

  • good race .Thumbs up if u were pulling for danica to win!

  • These guys are fun to listen to on the radio but they always call it long before it's over. They did the same thing with Marco in 06.

  • Both JR and Charlie could have done that different to avoid that, they both made rookie moves of shorts.

  • If there was an apron then Kimball could have easily have ducked in there and JR would have won it..bring it back! But still that would have been just another 500 finish, this on the other hand is one of the 500 finishes ever! Congratulations to Wheldon, Herta and Schmidt. Also MAKE WHELDON A FULL TIME DRIVER!!!
