  • can you do really perfect form planche pressups? not a troll but when you move you use momentum from your legs. Also to people who ask how he learnt this, he can do this because he has been doing gymnastics his whole life i assume and learning it from scratch is another story.

  • Man - some of you people are ignorant retards. Read the description. A kipping pull-up is a completely different exercise than a dead-hang.

    CrossFitters do DEAD-HANG's and Kipping - but most of you chumps who call it cheating pull-ups have never even tried doing kipping-pullups, and probably cant.

    Factor in other high-intensity movements + pullups and running, etc - all of you are just keyboard doctors who suck at life. Go kill yourselves .

    I coach pre-national gymnastics full time and it's always impressive to see people still in shape like that into their adult years.

    For those of you hating on the kipping pull-ups... they're done to increase intensity and are not a cop-out for strict ones, it's just different. You can train more pull-ups that way and as a result your strict ones get much stronger much faster.

  • The pullups ar a little shocking and will ultimately result in an injury. No excercize should be initiated with bounces or kicks. Slow steady motion and constant resistance is the rule. If you cannot do it, lower the weight.

    1. Learn to read. There's an explanation of the kipping pull-up in the video description.

    2. Learn to spell.

  • Also, I don't think a typing error should necessarily confine me to your world of idiots. I am not saying I'm not an idiot, I just think you are too harsh. Perhaps you will understand as you blossom from puberty. Sooner or later, this technique will result in injury, which may explain why most gymnasts suffer disabling joint ailments as they get older. I am 47 and have no joint problems. As for explosive strength, I am, to use a modern euphemism, a badass mofo. I use strict slow form.

  • if your training for explosive strength you do exercises as fast as you can,not slow and steady which would result in much lower force output.You are referring to training for muscle growth and that is not always the goal.

  • I am a proponent of good form but have an open mind. I have always used strict form with progressive weights to my waist. I removed the weights and used his technique. I could have gone all day and I never got a burn. If I have never trained for "explosive strenght", at 47 how can I do it now?

  • your not supposed to do the wave when you do pullups. you are actually supposed to go straight up without moving your legs. If you do move around with anything besides the arms, your making it easier on yourself. But the planche pushups were really good.

    Kipping pull-ups have their place just as strict pull-ups do.

    Have you ever done any at all?

    Can you knock 50 off in one go? I can. And it knocks the sh#t out of the whole body.

  • How you can critcise this guy is unbelievable to me.

    This guy is the best at what he does, and kipping pull-ups are one of the best exercises you can do. They are great for developing power and as a metabolic conditioning tool.

  • @rogar6 It's really unfair for a person who doesn't know much about gymnastics to be criticizing it. Gymnastics spawns elite athelets and most body and weight lifters can't keep up with them at all. So, before you say it breaks the rules of proper form just look at the power output, flexibility, conditioning, training, psyche, and endurance of gymnasts. Being able to bench 2-3 plates is useless if it has no function.

  • It's only 'cheating' for the muscles targetted, and it's much more desirable than using an assisted machine or something if you're going for more volume. It's never wussy, it's cool if it lets you do more and is good for overall fitness.
