Haha it's fine. The main section has a little over than 100 feet of pipe. So, I probably got 10 or 11 of those ten foot lengths...I can't remember now lol.
To tune simply get a piano or keyboard for the standard note when your first cutting the pipe. If the note sounds flat cut just a little bit off and see if its in tune then. (Don't cut off a lot cause if you go sharp there's not much to do about it.) I'm pretty sure you don't have to tune it anymore after that. And for paddles there many choices such as taking the bottom of a flip flop and sticking a paint mixer on and securing it.
you dont really have to tune them, you cut them to the right pitch (velocity of sound in air (meters/seconds) divided by the desired frequency (pitch, A=440) multiplied by .5 and that will give you the length in meters
If you type "PVC Instrument instructions" in a Google search, the first couple of sites that pop up were ones that I looked at it when I was planning the construction of mine, so they'll probably help you out as well. ;-)
(I'd give you those links, but Youtube doesn't allow links in comments...)
Would you ever conisder doing a full version of Exhibit 13? It's my favorite, and I'm sure you'd do great! Please consider! I would love to hear back if you're planning on it.
Haha yeah, I was already planning on it just like you thought. I recently finished my low-range pvc instrument and that's one of the songs that I'm hoping to cover with all three parts ;-)
if you stick to it, you should have no problems making it to the stage as an official blue man! i'd love to see you perform in Chicago. if it happens, keep in touch and hook me up with some tix!
OMG SMURFS CAN PLAY PVC Instrument!

Do you have the actual notes for the rods and cones piece? Im trying to cover it on piano, would be veryyyy useful. Its just the main melody bit :)

how do u tune those? and how did you make the paddles?
