He talks alot of shit in the book aswell.. like who wants too know every little detail of his familys history??? his fukin aunt this, his fukin uncle that... jesus christ get too the police work..
I read the book THREE times by now and seeing this makes me wanna read it again. It's truly amazing how he can describe scenes so vividly, with so few but apt words - it's like he's painting pictures in your head with his words. Also it is astounding how strongly it makes you feel while reading it. I laughed out loud many times while reading it and I admit at times I also cried. Probably the best book I have ever read.
Check out Conlon's book. It contains passages so thoughtful and well-written that, especially if you're a cop, you'll read them and want to stand up and cheer, because here's a guy who gets it, who can articulate it, and whose writing fast approaches the sublime.
great book, that Conlon has seen what he's seen, done what he's done, and maintains the perspective and humor that he does, both working as a cop and writing, deserves allot of respect. fun to watch him with Stewart, hope he's on some more. if police work is 'routine meets adrenaline', this balance is perfectly found in the book, which is also a personal history, history of NYPD, and NYC itself.
I'm glad to hear Det. Conlon will be doing more writing, however sad to hear that he did retire.

He and his friend John (who is mentioned in the book) served as consultants and also appeared as extras in the movie "We own the night".

A little on the boring side, but good book. He was a collar guy early.
