boonen has stated himself that he wants to concetrate on the classics...but, i think this is a shame because he IS a sprinter and him not taking part makes it a bit less when we all know he can...you cant knock him he has done some wonderful things in cycling and is catching up to mueseeuw very fast..who himself was a sprinter and won the green jersey in 1990 TDF..i dont get the coke thing either..i thnik its sad.,but if he injuries himself in a sprint..he would not be able to do roubaix so.

He's a fantastic sprinter, but he'll never be as good a rider as Boonen in my opinion. He still hasn't given proof he can survive the mountains in an important stage race. It also disappointed me that his first reaction after winning Milan-Sanremo was snubbing Boonen instead of just being happy he won. I hope he learns how to become a less cocky winner.

This is true, however Mark didn't "give in" and claim anything. The media claims he's the worlds fastest sprinter. Also, he didn't quit because he couldn't make it, he left the tour to get ready for the Olympics. Which he will be riding on Aug 16th I believe. Thanks!!

Stage wins are incredible achievements but completing the Tour or winning a jersey is a greater achievement. Remember Greg Lemond won the Tour without winning any stages. There are greater British riders who haven't won as many stages. You can't just give in when the road goes uphill and claim you have achieved more than all the riders who continue to Paris. Maybe he will get better, its early days. I don't think he is good enough.
