  • it's very complicate for a simply soft top down.....

  • Back to the bar that should be glued. Most people use velcro these days or even snap clips. When the Winter is over I'm going to fit velcro.I'm also trying to work out precisely where my new 12v battery clamp actually attaches to.I bought my MGB without a clamp on the battery & I will not pass my yearly control here in Belgium if my battery is not 100% clamped fast.

  • Simple as that, folks! Sorta glad I have a GT now...

  • On my 70's Alfa Spider I could put the top down in about 10 secs whilst sitting in the car. After 20 years without a classic sportscar I got myself an MGB last week, it's great BUT that damn soft top is a pain in the ass.If they could do a "quickie" soft top on the continent why not in England? Also in this video the guy mentions glueing a certain part of the roof....this is the first I've ever heard of that procedure...is that really necessary! if so why didn't the factory do it for us?

  • Im planning on restoring a MGB convertible and this video was a big help! Thanks

  • Thanks John! Learned a lot.

Folding or unfolding the hood alone i was scratching the rear top bodywork. It was the underside of the snaps that attach the rear of the hood to the bodywork. Maybe the boot rack helps. I now fold the rear panel of the hood up and forward ontop of the roof. I then fold the sides in as you describe and lower it. Another thing to watch is the 2nd bow of the roof frame can twist round the wrong way and the hook gouges the paint as you lower. done it several times!

  • Fine if you live in california

  • Just got my first MGB (last was a GT), Thank you for the step by step, really appreciated.

  • I have a mbg for 13 years and finally i know how to do it......

  • When I bought my MGB it was between that and a Fiat Spider 124. The only reason the Fiat was in consideration is because A) a friend owned one when I was in high school and B) you can drop the top with one hand at a traffic light while driving. I chose quirky.

  • Hahaha, really can't stop smiling. I love these British roadsters, and it was always a dream of mine to own one of these. When watching this video I really wondered why an instruction to open the top would take 4m22s. NOW I know! :-) I think the Englishman who designed this stuff is lying in the grave and laughing endlessly. I begin to understand why it was a big story when Mercedes came up with the hydraulic one-button-does-it-all solution!

  • own on a daily basis. In fact, I used to hate putting up the top on my moms MGB. I used to pray that whenever we took it out, it was either raining so the top would already be up or it was sunny with not even the chance of rain so that we wouldn't have to put the top up.

  • I'm sorry, but as a former MG BGT owner, and having been brought up in a family who owned 7 MGs over a decades time I have to say, "No wonder people bought Mazda Miatas and got rid of they're MGBs, they're so much simpler. I mean can you imagine trying to do this in the rain in a hurry, Ha Ha Ha! I'd have tools and tonnu covers and bars all over the place, and my language would be pretty colorful as well as I got wet while cursing MG for making a simple car that was complex to actually...

  • Ahhh.... but if you keep your MG above 50 mph the rain goes right over the top of the windsheild! Most delightful. The BEST way to view a thunderstorm.

  • @hoult7487 I know this to be a fact from experience. lol

  • I got the MG,glue and straps.All I need now is the wife.Will an X work?

  • that's was excellant! now tell me how to keep my 1980 MGB from breaking down all the time???

  • Wow, that's inconvenient! But thanks for the instructions.

  • Hey, John.... how about something for those of us still afflicted with TDs ?? Regards, Jerry Keller

  • i've had my b for over 15 years and never knew what those bars were for! Heureka!

  • Eeekk, did I just see you shut the door by the window at the end?
