Hello Fred, I've listened to many, many versions of this song, and I think yours is my favorite.Michael O'Domhnaill with the Brothy Band 's version is a truly great song to be sure, but with your tuning you've really nailed this one down.
I got this song originally from a 1950's album of sea-songs recorded by Paul Clayton, (March 3, 1931 - March 30, 1967.) Clayton, well-known in the folk-scene in the US, tragically committed suicide in '67 by putting an electric heater into his bath.

This person does not actually exist, though I might have a guess at their true identity.

This is the oldest version that there is, apparently. - Fred

Fred, I absolutely love your rendition of this great classic. Though the lyrics you use
differ slightly from what is stored at the University of Glasgow,I find them more
fitting. I would love to see them written. Also,I would love to try to play this song on
my guitar the way you play it,but I don't know what tuning you use. Nor would I
know how you play it if I did have the proper tuning.
I must admit that I cry when you sing "And bring him back to the land of life".
It's very moving.

Great work on the guitar. Would you mind sharing the tab? My daughter's asked me to learn it, and I've only managed a crude approximation so far...
