I was not getting a very good vacuum with the chuck so I decided to take light cuts with the scraper. I think it might have been difficult to get a parting tool in there. Who know it might have worked better with the parting tool. Thanks for the comment.
seems so wasteful not to engineer your turning to get additional bowls out of such a big chunk...

Was there a particular reason you didn't use a parting tool or a gouge or something to cut that piece off rather than turning it all into chips?
I can't help thinking it would be a lot quicker to remove it rather than shave it away like that.
You might even have been able to make something from it.
So - any reason?

I would have use a 3" forsner bit and have the center bore out my 2cents
