@kawaiifreak860 Not to nitpick, but the PPC/RISC based processor has its uses all over the place. iPods, iPads, Xbox 360 uses a multicore g5, the PS3 uses a multicore ppc processor and so does the wii. Saying ppc processors aren't good for games is just silly when they're the main component of every decent game console out there.
@kawaiifreak860 At the time, and even still today, the G4 had a considerable advantage when it came to games and graphics over the Intel Pentium 4 especially with the AltiVec engine on the chip. CPU design is considerably more then just pipelines and MHZ. A modern CPU is incredibly complex. The power series has always had an edge in raw computational power. Graphics is 100% computational. This is why EVERY major game console of this generation uses a power chip. This is for a reason.
The fact of the matter is that this is pretty accurate. The deep pipeline of the first Pentium 4 models coupled with the incredibly poor branch predictor caused much slower performance, even at higher clock rates. That's why Intel abandoned NetBurst and based the Core architecture and its derivatives on the older P6 architecture, which had a shorter pipeline. That's why the new, post-Pentium 4 processors had higher performance at lower clock rates.
this is a joke. the pentium 4 and the G4 are using COMPLETELY different instruction sets! you simply cannot say "the same task" because the code is not even close to the same thing! you can be damn sure they did everything possible to compile sloppy, inefficient code for the P4 and as efficient as they could get it for the G4. end of story. i'm not a big P4 fan, but you can be sure if the test was fair a 1.7 Ghz P4 would crush that 867 Mhz G4. no problem.
so, to sum up then... Scottie the engineer hit the proverbial on the head when he said "the more you bypass the plumbing the easier it is to block up the drains"
The animation from this video is trying to create a myth..
They added the branch penalty to both pipelines but they did double the speed of the pentium pipeline. (Which isnt so strange since this would double the output of the pentium part, thereby outperforming the g4 in each animation...).
The Pentium 4 was so shitty, people bought the Tualatin-based Pentium III or the Athlon XP. I personally hate the Pentium 4. My dad should have bought a Athlon 64 laptop in 2004 and an Athlon XP desktop in 2002.
The Pentium 4 was slow and it gave off a lot of heat. It would often lose to the Athlon, Athlon XP, Athlon 64, Pentium M and even Pentium III (the Willamette-based Pentium 4s lost to the Pentium III).
lol you and your knowledge of roman numerals, I don't have time over the next few days, but I'll load hypercam and record a private vid for you with the system readout. Admittedly, no build of 7 before 7100 could run on a system that could not run vista. our hard drive fired so I got a second drive and installed 7 and ran it, we recovered the XP to a running state so I put that back. To get the video I'd need to hard drive swap. If I don't have the video for you by Wednesday PM me.

I got an idea take both of the boxes put the exact same image on their HD's then run a benchmark test; done. I love the part when he shows some pictures of CPU's then tells us how they performed; and then says, "We just watched the intel get beat by 80%." We
didn't watch shit. You told us what to think. Mactards love infomercials.
Also, Intel (and AMD) are really pushing their multi core technology. That way you would have two pipes (or how ever many processors you have) running at one. look up AutoCAD 2007 rendering videos, the spiralling is the two processors working on different areas of the image at once.
That's because Intel completely changed their processor architecture with the Core series, which makes it faster than the PowerPC architecture. Pentium 4s sucked :)
That's because IBM wouldn't make that duo core switch. Intel isn't bad overall, it's just the P4 sucked for any price that was being charged at the time
They switched because IBM wasn't able to continue making upgrades to the PPC line to keep it competitive in desktops and notebooks and because Intel had made great strides in their designs since this video was filmed. IBM still makes POWER architecture chips but their power consumption and heat dissipation qualities are only suitable for servers.
It could be the other way around, but then people make it unfair saying that the Athlon is better than the Pentium III (obviously) and using that as supposed evidence that you should go for AMD lol.
No, the P4 actually has a better architecture than the Athlon. I have both of them here, both 1.6 GHz, and the P4 is "faster" (simplest way to put it) than the Athlon.
I think you were comparing a Northwood-based Pentium 4 to a Palomino or Thoroughbred-based Athlon XP. True the Northwood-based Pentium 4 outperformed the Athlon XP, but Prescott and Willamette were failures.
northwood ONLY out perform thoroughbred when it's 200~300mhz or more above thoroughbred. in the same frequency northwood is still a joke. in the extremely case it would take a northwood 3.06ghz to out perform a 1.8ghz barton(athlon xp 2800+) the only advantage that northwood have over willamette and prescott is the lower power consumption and easily booting out performance when the clock rate is extremely high. willamette and prescott fail because of heat and unable to clock up too high.
@BarricadeSlade not really there was 2 main p4 designs, if u had a northwood design with enuf cache then was fine, if u had one of the 256kb cache ones it should be badged celeron lol

The stupid thing about this is the PPC really isn't that Good..........
The intel processor has instruction which are very much necessary for things such as Games which the G4 lacks.
Long pipeline = slower
however it also = more calculative horse power.

Sure, architectures differ, but NO WAY it is such a big difference.

@dingumfCallofDuty they didnt change there mind.
the new mac use a intel processor because a PowerPC processes uses much more electricity then intel processor do, but they are faster.
I also tried it myself, using a 1,0Ghz G4 agains a 2,81Ghz Celeron-D.
the G4 was faster.
