I gotta say my childhood was much richer thanks to Captain Kangaroo and Fred Rogers. Flippo and Luci and her toyshop come in there a close third and fourth!
How was he King? Was it a constitutional monarchy, or did he actually administer public policy and public security? Was it hereditary; was there a possibility of of matrilineality?
Note that Kangaroo's weekday show was on at 8:15 rather than 8 AM on channel 10. This was because back then, CBS offered affiliates a "window" to join the program at :15, if they so desired, and use the 8 AM slot for local programming (usually the local news).
Flippo was the bomb and the very best pitchman "my friend, Dale Durthaler," the organ salesman, ever had. What a guy... Columbus still misses you Flippo.
Having been born in 1951, this was MY Sesame Street, and Captain Kangaroo my first hero. Thank you for the memories..this tribute to the Captain brought back so many
I was a child in the 60's in Central Ohio that watched Flippo and Captain Kangaroo...this brought a tear to my eye and took me back 40 plus years! Thanks!
Yes, it was on Channel 10. I think the entire city of Columbus stood still in time from 4PM to 6PM just to watch good ol' Flippo. Such an icon.
I'm think, if they don't name that stretch of Twin Rivers Drive- where 10TV is located- Flippo Lane (or Flippo Drive...if you have any more ideas, let me know...), there is no justice. The man was so ingrained in Columbus legend, it's hard to believe that he's gone, even a year after his passing.
