Dublin is going to be something else on Saturday night. Was at their last concert and it was a night to remember - just hope the weather doesn't let us down. Good video by the way!
hm, maybe that concerts to big, or the camera being used anit good cause i cant see u2, im seeing them at wembley soon, but these big concerts look they might be a disapointment, as you cant see the band, has anyone here been to a big concert?
When I saw U2 at Wembley on the Zooropa tour in 1993, I was at the other end of the stadium in the corner, and I enjoyed the experience while be able to see the band. I don't think you'll be disappointed at Wembley. Some outdoor arenas here in the States are just awful for concerts.
If Bono was so committed to ending Poverty in Africa, why does he avoid paying taxes, which could contribute a little to helping this cause. He talks the talk, but not walk the walk. So Paul, stop hiding behind a disguise and contribute from your own pocket, before preaching others to do so.
This is some nonsense from the gutter media. U2 moved business to Holland to reduce their tax bill and some Irish media called Bono a hypocrite, because the Irish government give a higher % of GDP than Holland to poorer countries. U2 are a business and I can't blame them for leaving Ireland. How come the Irish PM's salary is more than Obamas? Do you think that Bono is obliged to pay for that too?
why don't you do some research on how much money bono has worked to raise for causes (no, he's not going to give all of his OWN money- he's been a whole heck of alot more effective RAISING funds) and THEN START TALKING THIS JIBBERISH?!?!
Leaves for Holland, less money gets stolen from him by Biffo (in his process of becoming the highest paid politician in the world for no good reason), and so in theory is able to give more money straight to this generic "cause" you speak of.
I agree with you. I always prefer their first decade of career, now they've changed in something different from the band I knew.
Their masterpieces are from the '80s. It's as a lack of inspiration. I still love them, but they will not write any song compared to Sunday bloody sunday, New Year's Day, With or without you, Pride, Where the streets have no name, The unforgettable fire, October, All I need is you etc.
i hope only to succeed in seeing well from the posting in which i am to the stadium of san siro to milano.. they are aloft to the stadium and in front of the band... i hope!!!! the geometry of the stage leaves some serious doubts on a good visibilty from all the sectors...
They can't seem to go back to basics, so they have to use these big ugly stages and dress them up as art. And and...I've had enough of Bono trying to save the world when all he's really doing is legitimising those who are destroying it....silly bugger! And...I heard Larry talking like a Yank the other day! What da hell is that all about? Is he going to order a Guinness at the pub in an American accent in Dublin after their show or will he ask "do you sell beer here"?
I'm not angry at all son.....just making some observations and giving my opinion. Bono is too thick to realise that he's being manipulated in his embarrasing forays into world politics. Larry now has an American accent which might now go down all that well in Dublin.
The best Irish accent I've heard is Shane MacGowan of The Pogues- you can hear is Irish brogue in that band's albums, especially on the album "If I Should Fall From Grace With God." That's the male Irish voice I thin of instead of Bono and I've been a rabid U2 fan for decades. Still wish they had their accents. Edge does still, to a degree. I
I like Shane McGowan's voice too, but some people would argue that an Irish accent is better for "trad" / pub songs and an American accent should be used for rock (I disagree.....look at all the "Brit pop"). U2 have always been quite contrived as far as the accent thing goes. Even Bono himself said "American sells better". U2 have been denying their Irishness in some ways because they think it makes them more appealing to an international audience (an American audience?).
Geographicaly by being born there. Don't be offended if every foreigner or person born to foreign parents in your country doesn't want to adopt English or British nationalism.
Don't tell me that you're another one of these idiots who is bessoted with hero worship and can't have a sensible argument if another person makes an unfavourable observation about one of your heros? Why do you revert to personal "insults"? Have you moved beyond primary school?
I think it depends...they can adapt it to an extent, but very few completely adapt the accent of the new place where they live 100%. I know people who've been in Australia, America etc for years and haven't changed their accents much.
Dude... did you knew that U2 started with the bunch of massive scenarios since the ZooTV Tour? That's '91, and guy did the Achtung Baby is one of the best albums in music history. Also the nomination of the Nobel Peace Prize wasn't in vane for god sake. The man has done such great things. Who should ask for money then if not the world leaders? U2 gave away around 12 million dollars of his concerts to Africa. And about Larry's tone... you should mine your own business and voice, too.
About Larry...fair enough. The Nobel Peace prize means nothing. For goodness sake Al Gore won it for his pack of lies on global warming which is just a lie to steal more money from the masses through taxation. Global warming is occuring, but it's part of the world's natural cycle. Bono well, the people he talks to are destroying the world (yet they are pupets). By talking to them he makes them look more human than they are. Africa is still starving, Bono just makes westerners feel less guilty.
I'm well aware that Achtung Baby is one of the best albums in music history. I am not disputing their musical talent. I just think that their political "correctness" is contrived nonsense and tiresome, because it's driven by the mass media in the first place. You can't change anything if you aren't a thinking human being and you are being controlled by an bigger agenda which isn't yours. Africa is still starving because the world system (Globalization) stinks.
I don't see why you would fault a person of influence for trying a different approach to dealing with ever-prevalent issues like poverty and Africa. As a rock star It's safe to denounce the entire system as evil and pretend that globalization and big business aren't part of our current reality. It's safe because you keep your "cred" and you're never dubbed a sellout. Bono has made the brave move to actually try to work WITHIN our current reality to make positive change.
I can see where you are coming from and I have heard Bono try to justify his methods in that way, but I think that the system is so stinking that it is impossible to play within it and do any good as doing so only perpetuates it. Bono even assisted with Clinton's election victory, so he is not just working WITHIN the system; he has become a part of it. He is also too "PC". "PC" is yet another obstacle positive change. How can you change anything if you only focus on what everyone already knows?
One can't fault Bono's support of Clinton any more than the majority of the music/entertainment's industry's support for Clinton or Obama. Be it Rolling Stone or musicians themselves this last election was fought with teeth. Bono adopted his current neutral demeanor in politics after the Clinton election and knows that there will always be plenty of dissent for the system in rock n' roll. But there is a need for middle ground to enact necessary immediate change and he has opted for this.
The increase of international aid to Africa (not just from the US, since his efforts are global) and more specifically the availability of retro-viral drugs in Africa due in large part to actions from the One campaign and sister institutions like Keep a Child Alive are tangible wins from these efforts. I agree that the system reeks plenty, but if everyone just dug in their heels and scoffed at compromise nothing would get done, and actions like the ones mentioned above are needed now.
These things are no doubt victories, but Bono is still too much a part of the system in my view and in the long run you would have to wonder if he is doing more harm than good. He makes politicians feel good and westerners feel less guilty. He gives politicians too much credit even when they haven't done nearly enough. He has called Tony Blair and Gordon Brown "the Lennon and Mc Cartney of global development". I find that absolutely repulsive.
Guilt being the engine of philanthropy is unsustainable. One will eventually burn out and surrender to apathy. Bono is trying to make those that hold the reins part of the solution since they sign the checks. He's not out to solve every issue in the world, he'd rather win in the battles he's picked. Ruling institutions have a lot to answer for, but it is not Bono's job to fight every fight. Each of us can pick our battle and effect change instead of pointing the finger from the sidelines.
I agree with you about philantropy. Bono requested the elimination of "debt"...I would call it "theft". Soon we will know all about this theft in western countries too when the IMF takes control of a few western countries when they go bankrupt. In fact my American friends would do well to demand the end of the Federal Reserve which is no more federal than FedEx. FR + IMF = evil perpetrators of modern slavery. If Bono wants to do some good in the long run I think he should speak the truth.
I sincerely doubt that the debt relief efforts being sought by the organizations Bono is affiliated with will bring bankruptcy to the giving nations. We can soothsay all day about the future but eliminating crippling debt to the aided nations NOW is a way of emancipation as unpayable debt IS modern slavery and that's a present reality.
The bankruptcy of western nations is not related to the debt relief efforts, it's related to the Fed / IMF giving credit (printing money out of thin air, backed by nothing). The Fed is a private (non US owned?) banking company. I agree...unpayable debt is modern slavery. The scary thing is that the situation is becoming the same for western nations. Who gave the Fed / IMF power to issue "money"? Can the US and other western nations indebted to the Fed / IMF pay back their mountains of debt?
I'm absolutely with you on the Fed / IMF issuing funds out of thin air. The fact that currency is no longer backed by a hard standard has made debt the way to instead of responsible economic management by countries. Also, the IMF is only one of the US's concerns, the amount of money we owe to China is ridiculous.
Yes, it's incredible that it has been going on for so long. I would say that if you have any assets in dollars get rid of them. China has already been suggesting an alternative reserve currency and OPEC have suggested a basket of international currencies as an alternative to the dollar. I could see the dollar collapsing in the very near future. I think we are entering "interesting" times. Let's just hope that the main chess player doesn't decide to "kick the chess board".
We can all pick our battle, but some are in a better position to do so than others. Those "big boys" that do try to take on the system in any meaningful way don't tend to stick around too long; things "happen" to them. The ordinary guy on the street is too busy / in debt these days and in some countries he / she'd be called a terrorist or charged with a public order offence for any kind of meaninful protest. Bono is just playing their game. I think he should take them on or say nothing.
By this logic Bono should be ready to wager everything dear to him or do nothing. Is that the requisite we want to lay out for anyone wanting to make a difference? He may not be at a loss for money, but he is a family man. He may not be in debt but he may have the same fears of losing the things dear to him. Does that mean that he shouldn't at least try to use his influence in a positive way? Are the philanthropic efforts of all those who choose not to vilify the entire system for naught?
cuando montan un escenario asi es q no confian mucho en su musica, si no, q miren a otros grupos cosagrados q no se vuelven locos en la escenografia y hacen conciertos memorables :)
what the hell are you talking about - they have to resort to mega stages now??? LOL:) you clearly have not seen the ZooTV or PoP-Mart or Vertigo tours - they were mega, elaborate stages aswell but they were FUCKING BRILLIANT:) U2 are better than all the complete boring SHIT on the radio today - every singer-songwriter today wants to be like U2 - but they NEVER will be coz they all SUCK-----
I admit that U2 at their worst, which has been the last 10 years, is still better than the other garbage out there. But U2 are now pathetic. when they are playing songs like Boots or Breathe in concert and singles but don't play Fez being Born or When I look At the World then they don't even know what their good sings are. Look at the reviews for the album, most people think it sucks
tbh I love this song, and the ones you know is a personal opinion, not a global. in the end - noone cares for critisism on a clip like this, didnt enjoy it? Don't comment :S?
Even though its called 360 Tour,The actual stage is not right in the middle of the venue,it's more down towards one end of the arena, which is what I suppose you could call the backstage area !
wait, they're coming to denver? I spent all my money that i had saved to fly out to washington to see them on september 29th! they're really coming to Denver?

Guilt being the engine of philanthropy is unsustainable. One will eventually burn out and surrender to apathy. Bono is trying to make those that hold the reins part of the solution since they sign the checks. He's not out to solve every issue in the world, he'd rather win in the battles he's picked. Ruling institutions have a lot to answer for, but it is not Bono's job to fight every fight. Each of us can pick our battle and effect change instead of pointing the finger from the sidelines.
rcuretouch 2 years ago
I agree with you about philantropy. Bono requested the elimination of "debt"...I would call it "theft". Soon we will know all about this theft in western countries too when the IMF takes control of a few western countries when they go bankrupt. In fact my American friends would do well to demand the end of the Federal Reserve which is no more federal than FedEx. FR + IMF = evil perpetrators of modern slavery. If Bono wants to do some good in the long run I think he should speak the truth.
bikkurimonkey 2 years ago
I sincerely doubt that the debt relief efforts being sought by the organizations Bono is affiliated with will bring bankruptcy to the giving nations. We can soothsay all day about the future but eliminating crippling debt to the aided nations NOW is a way of emancipation as unpayable debt IS modern slavery and that's a present reality.
rcuretouch 2 years ago
The bankruptcy of western nations is not related to the debt relief efforts, it's related to the Fed / IMF giving credit (printing money out of thin air, backed by nothing). The Fed is a private (non US owned?) banking company. I agree...unpayable debt is modern slavery. The scary thing is that the situation is becoming the same for western nations. Who gave the Fed / IMF power to issue "money"? Can the US and other western nations indebted to the Fed / IMF pay back their mountains of debt?
bikkurimonkey 2 years ago
I'm absolutely with you on the Fed / IMF issuing funds out of thin air. The fact that currency is no longer backed by a hard standard has made debt the way to instead of responsible economic management by countries. Also, the IMF is only one of the US's concerns, the amount of money we owe to China is ridiculous.
rcuretouch 2 years ago
Yes, it's incredible that it has been going on for so long. I would say that if you have any assets in dollars get rid of them. China has already been suggesting an alternative reserve currency and OPEC have suggested a basket of international currencies as an alternative to the dollar. I could see the dollar collapsing in the very near future. I think we are entering "interesting" times. Let's just hope that the main chess player doesn't decide to "kick the chess board".
bikkurimonkey 2 years ago
We can all pick our battle, but some are in a better position to do so than others. Those "big boys" that do try to take on the system in any meaningful way don't tend to stick around too long; things "happen" to them. The ordinary guy on the street is too busy / in debt these days and in some countries he / she'd be called a terrorist or charged with a public order offence for any kind of meaninful protest. Bono is just playing their game. I think he should take them on or say nothing.
bikkurimonkey 2 years ago
By this logic Bono should be ready to wager everything dear to him or do nothing. Is that the requisite we want to lay out for anyone wanting to make a difference? He may not be at a loss for money, but he is a family man. He may not be in debt but he may have the same fears of losing the things dear to him. Does that mean that he shouldn't at least try to use his influence in a positive way? Are the philanthropic efforts of all those who choose not to vilify the entire system for naught?

Don't comment :S?

monsterinyourpocket 2 years ago
Even though its called 360 Tour,The actual stage is not right in the middle of the venue,it's more down towards one end of the arena, which is what I suppose you could call the backstage area !

@Dennon88: not this year, they're not. even if they were, Muse is opening in DC, whereas Denver would've gotten the Black Eyed Peas.

I used a simple Sony Super Steady Shot (DSC-W120), they seem to be working good for concerts, esp. when it comes to the sound.
