Fantastic,of all the bands that have covered Sweet Jane, the Cowboy Junkies did it the best. It's kind of like what Jimi did with Bob's All along the watchtower, they did it their way.Lou Reed must be proud of that.
Live-they are fantastic. I saw them a few years ago and it was a great show. Basically they just played and sang. Possible they are a better live band than studio band
Hey, they speeded up the tempo a lot vs. the Trinity Sessions version, & even added lead guitar. But I prefer the slow original. Slow gives the song more emotional impact & drama, imo, leading up to a shivers-down-the-spine emotional climax! Too bad the Junkies couldn't write original songs as good as this Lou cover, & so they peaked at their inception. Maybe they should have specialized in well chosen covers as a career -?
Cowboy Junkies kinda reminds me of Ani Difranco because they mix Country/Folk Music with Alternative/Indie Rock music and not to mention Margo Timmins sounding just like Ani because of her soft, ethereal, and haunting voice :)
As far as all sorts of groups have recorded this. This is my favorite, and I didn't even know about Cowboy Junkies. they now have a fan. Oh hell yeah. No going back.
Ah, they have done this song in so many amazing ways -- completely restructuring virtually every bit. Every damn time they do a wonderful job with it. Michael Timmins is one of THE great songwriters period. Yes, he did not write this particular song, but if you mine his outstanding songs you will not be disappointed.
Incidentally, I would be shocked if this particular lead part was played by Michael. It sounds nothing like his typical playing, but I could be wrong. Astounding band.

@spankr I agree with you. We listened to them in the '80s in college all the time and knew they were ahead of the curve with their sound.

McKee is amazing. Thanks so much for posting this. It was an integral part of her earler career and is also a great cover of Lou Reed.

That's a good one...I agree. Check out Amazon Charlie and the Tractors...they do a real good cover.
