  • I have been avoiding post 83' Stiff Little Fingers stuff but I love this!

  • I broke my flip flops bangin my feet to this :)

  • Seems Jake was to busy making good music to give a fuck what his "look" projected.

  • Magnificent.

These guys deserve a medal for writing this song.

How about a modern refresh - Gaddafi was nobodys friend for 40 years , and then he decided to sell his oil to China and bingo! a popular uprising against him backed by Nato. Bet that version gets banned as well.

  • one word....... Masterpiece!

  • this is a slightly slower punk song from one of the greatest punk bands ever. Yes it is still punk!!

  • Does it really matter whether its punk or rock? Its a quality tune!

  • This is punk! Punk-Rock, which is still punk!

  • QUALITY!

  • It's still punk just really 80's I guess, which makes sense since it came out in 91...

  • Comment removed

  • any one knows the year of this video?

  • rihgt all i can say is this is a brilliant band but two years ago i was thouraly dissapointed because i saw then two days running, jake burns said exactly the same thing inbetween each song and it made me thing WHAT THE F U C K

  • @xxMiniMonkeyxx

Ah. Welcome to the dilemma of the touring band, MiniMonkey. Yes, we do tend to use the same introductions/set-list etc. because it's usually a different audience each night and if we've worked out a show that works...why would we short change people ?

  • @xxMiniMonkeyxx : It's a tricky thing. We could play different songs/make different intros each night but they would be badly rehearsed and would lead to poor performances. When someone has paid a LOT of money (in some cases) to see us, shouldn't we ensure that they get the best possible show ? As I said, we'd love to play a different show each night, but if a thing works...why change it.

  • @xxMiniMonkeyxx : That includes intros: that's what the songs are about after all. We can't change the truth. Thanks for at least coming to two shows, though !

    All the best,

    Jake Burns.

    (Stiff Little Fingers).

  • @jakenewcastle UNDER AN AFGAN MOON

  • if the goverment ban a song because the veiw it as a threat how can it not be punk

  • When i first heard this song i was blown away. It's so catchy, the vocals are great and i love the guitars. What else can i say?

  • Great punk (!) song, by a great band. Can someone tell me what the last line in the video is? It starts with: Don't forget the.... The rest I can't read very well.

  • SLF are an amazing band,, great lyrics always will love the way they can take a situation and write a song that says it all.. thanx SLF

  • Isn't punk all about being 'different' and protesting?

  • @aldarcy hAHAHAHhahHAHhahahHhahHhahHAHAHhaaaaaaaa! You make me laugh.

  • Theres such a high chance this would have been a hit! why the fuck was this sensored, so anoying. kinda funny that the guy was set free like 6 days after this song? XD Huge fan.

  • SLF Are playin in Buckley Tivoli North Wales! I can't wait whooooo

    Saturday 9th October

    This will be awesome

  • What does the song talk about? SLF sound very "hard rock" in this song. Don't they? P.S: I know I'm a F***@#*** C***. So please, forgive me.

  • @amenonmicapiscono

The song is about the kidnapping of John McCarthy, a British journalist who was held hostage in Lebanon for 5 years. The British government (under Thatcher) refused to do anything to help him go free and this song criticises their inaction. The single was removed from sale to the public by the British government on the first day of release.

  • @Draugh39 Thank you very much! There should be more songs like this today: It's good when music criticises the government! ;-) And SLF are very good to criticise!

  • favourite band ever

  • Ok.. this is punk! Stiff Little Fingers are more punk then this "sum 41" Punk is about the attitude, and the music is about whats in the song. Can i just point out that im 15 and have not listened to "sum 41" or whatever they are called.

  • cracking tune. to all you little 15yr old sum41 fans, stiff little fingers were propper punk. punk was a movement not a hairstyle

  • Nope defo not punk. Havent spent excessively long perfecting mo hawks and studding leather jackets. Thats all punk amounts to isnt it?

  • Great tune.. how true, the sh** about not dealing with terrorists is Bull

  • under a Beirut, under a Beirut moon.

What a song. Flags and Emblems aint quite up to the standards of Inflammable Material but it's still one 'eck of an album.

    Jake Byrne for PM!

  • save anyone we are all same human

  • Great track. Flags and Emblems is horribly underrated.

  • @DavidRatcliffe yes it is exatly right

  • Go the Fingers!!!!

  • so moving love it

  • under a Beirut, under a Beirut moon!

too awesome, thanks for the up

  • Fuckin awesome. VERY powerful.

  • well leftist so called punks support the Hizbollah ,the guys behind this abduction. so why is my video of Jake Burns with a Northern Ireland-shirt ´80,from TOTP performing Nobody's hero.Always banned then trying to upload it?

    Is Jake a Linfield-fan?

  • @Futtan Nope. Cliftonville at home. Newcastle United from then on ! (Oh, with a Liverpool dalliance in the middle !!)

  • whats the deal with the birtish goverment to think that my dad gets caught when hes in iraq the british couldnt give a s***

  • Bloody good,

"I'm sorry son there's nothing we can do!"

  • this is a really addictive song, i bet it was very influential when it was released.

  • The video was banned by the BBC if I recall correctly when it came out. Doubt they'd ever play anything that isn't mainstream anyway.

  • This was actually banned by the British Government who didn't want to be shamed into negotiating with terrorists.

  • yeah, so fingers just re-released it with the new name "moon" lol love it!

  • It probably would have been if it was released before John McCarthy was. However, it does highlight the fact that our "All-Powerful" Government don't give a damn.

  • What is it with people not thinking this is punk?

  • Beats me mate. Some people are simple I guess :-)

  • @sham64andahalf course this is punk :P

    listen to the lyrics XD

Just because it doesnt sound completely aggresive doesnt mean its not punk XD

  • This song is LEGENDARY

  • sum 41 im a punk not a prick

  • you's too gay

  • You are the stupid bastard. Get back to your Sum 41 album you little prick!

  • Hey Sum41 are well good and so are stiff littler fingers so lay off you bastard.

  • @Punkyadam2k8 wow, you dumbshit

  • @Punkyadam2k8 anyone who's you tube name includes the word punk is far from qualified to pass judgement on what is or isn't punk.

Bunch of mindless weasles conforming to a hollow stereotype.

  • @emergenyexit23 ive seen that guy on alot of videos of different bands saying they arn't punk...

  • @Punkyadam2k8 If this isn't punk then, what the fuck is it?

  • @Punkyadam2k8 If this isn't punk then, what the fuck is it?

  • your a fag

    MrPainfullytrue

  • This band aint even punk, it's quite clearly pop industry.

  • Oh clearly, do you know what you just said?

  • I just said 'thanks for getting me beer from the shop'' however if you mean can I read and ubderstand my own comment.....listen to them again and don't believe the hype........Some things are quite clearly manufactured.....either that or production totally changed their sound before releasing a record.

  • What a moron you are. They've been around since the mid 70s.

Seen live a dozen times. Put anything to shame today

  • Yea,yea...I'm a moron blah blah blah

  • ma ma got me into these 6 years ago wen i was thirteen like there fuckin awsome check out runnin riot for more belfast punk

  • Still good watching them, but nothing beats watching them 25 years ago on the rough trade tour.

  • Yes...

  • first time i've heard this, it's storming. always knew SLF were the best of the old punkers

  • They are still better than a lot of the new "punk" bands

  • SLF are fekin magic

  • NO SHIT!

  • WTF

  • oh you think so? ....Nah I think you guys sound way better.........NOT!

  • go suck on your mums man boobds

  • Perhaps SLF could contact the families of our hostages in Iraq and re-relaese this to draw attention to their plight - after today's (20/07/08) news this might shame the govt in to doing something (negotiate!).

  • For a band that broke up they did a pretty good set in Ipswich last month as part of their UK tour.

  • EPIC FAIL

  • epic faiL????? SHUT UP YOU BALL SACK

  • ONE BIG HUGE FAIL.

if i was you id just delete my youtube account.

  • The last verse is mad powerful. "Don't give up, don't give up, argue, beg and plead"

  • wow i love this

  • Brilliant song, brilliant video. first time I heard it was on free cd from the Times in January. The video says it all British Governments didn't care, dont't care and will never care about ordinary British people.

  • No Government cares about it people...they care about what we can do for them. We are not them, we are the pawns in their greedy escapades.

  • Sad but true for the most part

  • not exactly true mate, the little irish government were instrumental in the release of Brian Keenan.

  • Yes...

  • must say this song is absalutely fab!

  • what would you no?

  • fucking rite, belfast!!!!!!!!!! best city in the world (no one argue with that)
