i would HOPE he does justice to this song , since he was the first to record it and produced on his 1978 album Read My Lips ... produced and played by the co-writers Bob Ezrin and Michael Kamen.
Damn! READ MY LIPS: Tim Curry ROCKS this song--written for his over-the-top theatrical style--out of the park! I guess the lyrics were just too hard core for 1978. Too bad. Every song on Read My Lips had radical style changes and the album had no direction and little traction, but some songs remain great. I still play this to freak out friends. I LOVE this song still after 34 years. Joe's Version pales, sorry.
Beautiful Version!!! I would always prefer Bonamassa's version (one of my all-time favorites) but I can't help but chill to the bluesy sounds of this version. It clearly takes Sloe Gin to a whole level of blues. Amazing.
Sung straight from the heart - a heartache in every line. Joey B. does an admirable job of this song - sung in the manner it was written - full of angst!!

Sloe Gin is a fucking masterpiece. Curry opened the door, Smokin' Joe slammed it shut.
I love both versions.

I love Joe Bonamassa's version, too, but I've known this one since I was a kid and I have to say, Bob Kulick's solos are absolutely mesmerizing.

Heard the JoeB version first and love the guitars but Tim definitely sings this better

The one thing I like better about Tim's version is the prominence of the bass, Joe never lets his bass players shine....

@cyberbmcd I completely disagree, check out Joe live at Rockapalast Eric Czar rips it up... and Joe let's him.
