Patrick Bateman did kill all those people. I know this because in an interview with the director and writer of the first movie they make it very clear. Near the beginning of the movie Patrick is mistaken for a co-worker hinting that the people don't really see each other. The movie was about materialism and the yuppie culture where no one notices each other. This is why Patrick was able to get away with his murders. Even at the end when Patrick confesses to his lawyer he doesn't believe him and

You know what this movie needs is all of it's wit, subtly and incisive social commentaries thrown by the wayside in favor of a boring, poorly produced dinner theatre quality murder mystery with awful characterization, terrible acting and William fucking Shatner. In that very same scene, the Lawyer called him something else, not his own name, which also suggests that despite his horrific acts of violence, and outrageous behaviour, he is still, to everyone else, just another office guy, no different from the rest.
