  • Group B cars + Rally Portugal + Portuguese spectators = BALLS! xD

  • So... Portugal ruined rallying! Don't stay angry too long though, as it is alive and kicking today.

  • @MikeLenoch5 fuck you

  • @112leo You're an example of the depravity of human existence on YouTube.

  • 2:28... moneyshot!

  • The guy you see at the end (Henri Toivonen) died in that same year, in the Tour De Corse 1986, along with his co-pilot. The cars had too much power and had no safety, leading to the deaths of several pilots, co-pilot and spectators.

  • Spectators are stupid as fuck.

  • spectators killed group b

  • O Zé Tuga é mesmo estúpido.

In those times, there wasn't much security in Rally and people were allowed to be anywhere on the track, and not only in Portugal.

But the Portuguese, as a tradition, had to push things over the limit..typical!

I'm only sorry for the drivers and small children, who didn't have an option but to be there with their mentally degraded parents.

  • Sadly accidents have to happen for people to learn, you gotta feel for the relatives of the people that died and the drivers that had the accidents but it was as soon as1993 that one of the works Toyota's beat a stage time set by the awesome group B cars.Pretty sure they could safely run group B nowdays with all the safety measures they have in place. Just a shame they don't and the premier Rallying Championship they run is dying on it's arse with just 2 factory teams running.

  • its these pricks that killed rallying,if you choose to stand in the road with cars coming at you at that speed then you deserve to be hit. Rallying has never been the same since

  • 2:27 STRIKE!

  • You people have to remember that back then, this happened on a lot of rallyes, not just the Portuguese one. And also, back then, nobody ever told anyone where they could watch or not the rally, so people stood wherever they wanted to stay, which means really close to the cars, as if it were a zoo and they wanted to touch the animals there.

Now you have billions of race officials and designated public areas, and if there's a lot of people in dangerous zones, that SS doesn't even take place.

  • I'm really happy, that he killed the spectators, because they were wery stupid to stand there

  • @Adamak100 rally without spectators is sooo much less enjoyable to watch .

now it sucks !!!!!!!!!! i dont even watch it anymore . people now adays are always thinking safety first . grow up you sissy bastards . i feel bad for those who died . they had more balls to stand there and more money to be at the event >< the lower the chances of someone getting hurt the less exiting it is

like i formula one you cant even die in those things anymore , whats stopping you from pushing

  • SO WHAT THE FUCK IF THEY KILL A VIEW SPECTATORS THESE GUYS ARE SICK

WIDEGUYS WITH NO SINGLE BRAINCEL SO WHAT THE FUCK? WHO GIVES A SHIT?...NOBODY GIVES A SHIT BESIDES IT WERE PORTUGEES ASSHOLES SO NOBODY GIVES A SHIT!!!!!!

  • @geertwildersful IDIOT.. Hope nobody gives a fuck about you. Burn in hell..

  • @999klesk it took a long time before somebody react

  • @999klesk what do you want danisch asshole what about the stupid black bastard martin luther kingpin the son of a pig is dead for decennia i HAD a dream ahahahahahahahahaahhahahahhaahahahahahahahah rest in pieces martin ahahahahahahahahhaahaaha WHITE POWER HEIL HITLER 20-04-2011 PARTYTIME HITLERS BIRTHDAY!!!!

  • idiot peolpe

  • do u know, somebody died there ??

  • we can't blame these spectators, obviously in any motorsports event the goal for most fans is to get as close as possible, especially back then, the thrill of being so close made it all the more popular. unfortunately, in most cases there was either no way, or no effort, to keep the crowds at a safe enough distance, if there were procedures in place, group b might, just might still be around.

  • @Switch344 well, actually they are to blame, when they -as the officials said" caused the accident in the first place. of course they want to be as close as possible, but standing on the Road till the last minute is absolutely irresponsible and dangerous. And everybody must know that.

  • @Switch344 the HELL we can´t ...what.. gonna blame the pilot for reckless driving...?

  • Thanks Portugal, I think you should apologise for being stupid and getting injured and killed. >:(

  • @mattj79 cabroes de ingleses

  • Those Rally pilots were one of the very best drivers in the world.

In Formula 1, you don't had crowd standing in the middle of the cirquit and you didn't had to be scared to find the remains of a little child, sticking on your frond wheel...

The Group B pilots realy had nerves of steel.

Still, let we not forget: it were the same people that made Group B popular in the first place. It was capable of turning heads and it did.

Making it interesting for car companies to join.

  • hahahahhaha owned those fucking tugas fucking get off the track u sandniggers

  • @freaky123666 es um filho da puta cabrao

  • @freaky123666 es um filho da puta cabrao

  • with a little bit more of attenction group b will be probably survived...DAMN

  • spectators like that have a fucking death wish. unreal

  • @Flaviochief43

...... why shut the fuck up????? these idiots were standing on the frickin road, (you would probaly call someone a idiot when he jumps infront fo a car. (same here) just with more people

  • 2:23 .

  • They had it coming...

  • thanks you 100 000 gays fans who killed groub B -.-

  • @predatortheme they loved group b more than you, otherwise you'd be there and if u weren't born yet, you can't judge them.

Back then everyone was crazy about sports entertainment just have a quick look: tragedy of Heysel, Ayrton Senna, Henri Toivonen, many accidents. Something had to be done.

  • @joaopa69 And they did, they kind of killed the auto sports limitng bhp on cars to 300, etc.

Nowadays its all electronic and boring. Well Rally keeps intresting but F1 doesnt anymore.

  • people think that they are driving for them and they drive carrful but they forget they are driving on edge of limit for time and a crash can cause a mechinical problem besides people can make misstake too.

  • Irresponsible spectators were the reason for rally to stop showing in Portugal.

Glad its back, just hope people know how to behave.

  • Rally of Portugal was one of the most technical and hard!!

Today the cars have evolved, it has much more security and more awareness of the spectators. Those who speak the Portuguese are still the same, do not know the facts! Even if they do evidence rally in Portugal, and there are no victims! because there is more awareness and safety.

25 years later much has changed in many ways (in all world)

  • One of the best rallys in the world, but security...

    now is different.

  • I'm shamed of being portugese.... God portugese people are so stupid and retarded.

This still happens in most rally's nowadays... Portuguese are uncivillized.

  • i believe that they should bring back the group b cars because i think now motorsport has the technology and the knowledge to make group b safe and exciting for all

  • Not the drivers fault at all.

Once the car turned right, he couldn't correct it.

  • how can you say was not the portuguses fans are u stupid or blind i am portugues and i got eyes 2 see camone so many times i went 2 rally but allways in safe and respect the drivers most important what a sheet people retardad copletely and was not because off that group b end camone

  • The law of natural selection is flawed.....too many of those dummies live and make more stupid babies.

  • It wasnt just in portugal that the crowds would get to close. i'm pretty sure that not long ago people were still getting too close in certain countries. But Group B was what got me interested in rallying when i was a little kid. Bring the power back with the better tech now it should be more do able.

  • I would love to see a chalange between a gr.B car nad wrc 2010 car

  • @laikros

Give a Group B car the Suspension set up of a WRC 2010 car and it would flatten the C4 WRC. But without it, it's pretty much even.

  • its a terrible thing to say, but it almost looked like that accident was allowed to happen, watch it again. such a horrible event. why have we never seen another angle of footage in 23 yrs. i could be wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • Those spectators are crazy! So close to the parcours; obvious that when it goes wrong, it goes wrong real badly.

  • Agreed. How can people be so stupid? This is just Darwin-ish, it's incredible, outside of the corner and lower from the road, a 8 years old boy would think of not putting himself here. It's not only in Portugal, I have almost fought in Monte Carlo with french guys (as I am) placed stupidly... and finally they cancelled the stage. One day we'll come to mandatory control & pay to access the stages, hope this will filter such morons from accessing.

  • Shame the (portuguese) fans led to the end of real rallying.

There was a even more extreme Group S in the pipeline for 1987. Audi's interpretation of these liberal prototype rules is displayed in the works museum.

I wish I would've experienced this and most likely have stayed next to the road as well.

Rallying and common sense doesn't go together very well thinking about Ouninpohja stage in Finland. Even today a small gravel road trough the woods at 180+ kph

  • the portuguese fans are not the only cause of the end of group B... many other accidents hapened, like the death of toivonen. so dont say that portuguese fans led group B to its end, because thats not true...

  • yes, the cause was the incredible power of this cars

  • Sure Cresto/Toivonen died in the S4 at the Tour de Corse, but you can get the message of the commentator. Look at that guy running across the road in front of Walter and people standing on the outside. I think this was the only spectator involved fatal accident and played a huge role in the end of Group B, the cancellation of Group S and the introduction of Group A.

Crowd control just didn't work there, though I'd like to stand right there or at the "Panzerplatte" today

  • you dont now a shit... noboty lyke the portugese fans love more the rally this days,we wish the group B cars return to the Nr 1 rally in the world...the portugese rally...

  • was no the portuguese fans...

there was a lot of crashes with group b cars

  • fuckin idiot spectators

  • QUEREMOS O RALLY NO NORTE!!

  • see if you understand the stupid shit, group B did not end because of this incident alone, it was because the rest of the accidents that have happened, such as accident Henri Toivonen, RIP HENRI!

  • lol

  • The problem no is the people, the fault lay with the organization, as these machines can not run by these sections? where was the organization to suspend race by excessive public

  • these fucking people...thanks for contributing to the end of group B

  • you think this is normal for a rally car:

    Times F1 of 1986 and time section s4 11986

    1. 12 Ayrton Senna BRA Lotus-Renault G 1.16,673

    2. 5 Nigel Mansell GBR Williams-Honda G 1.17,489 + 0,816

    3. 1 Alain Prost FRA McLaren-Porsche G 1.17,710 + 1,037

    4. 20 Gerhard Berger AUT Benetton-BMW P 1.17,742 + 1,069

    5. 19 Teo Fabi ITA Benetton-BMW P 1.18,071 + 1,398

    6. (X) Henri Toivonen Lancia Delta S4 Group B Rally car 1.18,080 + 1,407

    7. 6 Nelson Piquet BRA Williams-Honda G 1.18,180 + 1,507

    is normal?

  • how is that a retort to my comment?

  • because the blame for the final Group B was not people, were their own machines

  • Hence i said "contributing." Not the cause but definitely a correlation. It was the following three: driver deaths, spectator deaths and the the inability of certain venues not being able to control the crowds and basically power. The manufacturers were getting unlimited power from the turbo motors so they basically become unsafe to drive. Watch the video "to fast to race" i think you would like it.

  • fucking people! Why are they staying so close to the road?! The group B has been abolished because of these stupid bastards!!

  • Why people talk without knowing the facts? The group B wasn't abolished just because of this tragedy, but because of a series of rally cars accidents on which the death of Henry Toivonen was the final straw. Still, the people in the crowd knew the risks when they decided to watch the rally in such a close perspective. Sadly the ones who died payed the ultimate price for a rush of adrenaline...

  • They were there at their own risk. I don't know if it's that fair to insult those people whose passion for the rally thrill was so huge they were committed to make that kind of things. I personally would hardly put myself inside the road like they do but I certainly don't feel it's right to punish those who take that risk. We're all talking about passion. Being irrational is part of us.

  • fucking idiots.

  • it makes me upset and angry that people (adults) couldnt't control themselves and make sure they were at least a safe distance away. im not a health and safety freak, but where did common sense go? Thanks to this group b was dropped what an awful shame, i hope one day there is a return perhaps next time with a bit more insite and knowledge of the importance of safety!

  • Contento per gli spettatori morti.

    Poveri coglioni.

  • i totally agree with rally4life11

    Stupid fucking spectators.

  • i feel sorry for the drivers,

    bollocks to the spectators,

the spectators are a large distraction,

even a second of distraction can cause a crash,

    that's what happened,

driver of the RS200 lost control and killed three people,

imagine having to live with that,

    i know i probably couldn't

  • @UBIQUEROL i could not because i dont care bout the ppl but because after all i whouldent be the one to blame in such a situation and the death tol whould be insignificant only proving the pure supidity of the crowd

  • spectators were a little crazy

  • quanti sono morti? numbers of died?

  • I was there i this was not the reason why group b was banned !!! You can see vids of WRC at Portugal and we still have the best crowds. Get informed before make stupid comments !! And if just think for a litle bit .. If the problem of Group B was Portugal fans Why didn´t they banned portugal only ?? netdriller you are 100% correct ! The Group B ended with Henry Toivonen and his Co-pilot Sergio (R.I.P.)death's at Tour de Corse 1986 AFTER the Portugal accident.

  • The banning of Group B cars was coming for a while. The cars were too powerful. Toivonen's death was the last drop. There's no guarantee of your life or safety when racing 200 km/h+ on public roads. Not to mention these speeds where often achieved on both tarmac and more dangerously, gravel, on roads that many times had trees along side them. Officials can ban a rally stage if the speed achieved is higher than 200 km and presents a risk.

  • well there we have it the reson for the group b ban all the selfish crowds i race and they now have little sign's motorsport is dangerous we all no that so if some little twat was in my raceing line scat the little fucker out the way

but it was a tragedy with henri and the other driver/co drivers so some thing had to be done but a ban no to much, more safty and regulations needed not a ban

  • The could've added safety barrier/fences for spectators in some stages in some WRC events for their own safety. that may have saved group b. RIP Group b.

  • I could not bring myself to drive with crowds that close, I'd be too worried about mowing down hundreds of people if I made a single mistake.

  • Yes the cars were a bit powerful and no the blame does not rest solely on the spectators. FIA should have implemented better safety regulations and crowd control. It is a tragedy what happened to those people and those drivers. May they rest in peace and not be forgotten.

  • I can't believe the stupidity of these people. Are you fucking retarded???? They killed group b and are solely responsible for it. The ignorance of the spectators is overwhelming. They have no fucking crowd control at all but then turn around and eradicate group b altogether. These worthless bastards standing in the road ruined it for everyone. What a bunch of dickheads!!!!

  • Not to detract from the staggering stupidity of these people, I think FISA is the party responsible for the end of Group B. They could have demanded better crowd control, safer routes and easier schedules from organizers. That would have allowed the golden age of rally to continue.

  • You forgot Henri Toivonen and Atilio Betega, they didn´t die because of "people stupidity".Group B cars were too much for rally, check what Walter Rohrl said about the Audi Quattro.

At least respect the persons that died you fucking retard hassle bastard!

  • Damned ignorant ppl, what the hell they think they're doing?... I bet they think its a bullfight or something... pff... one of the reasons by which Group B was banned forever was this accident and this kind of fans.

  • even in sega rally you see people crossing the road in front of the car!

  • You'd think that even after 20 odd years the Portuguese would learn but we haven't. There is still a blatant disregard for safety on our roads. We have the highest road accident mortality rate in Europe and have no idea what keeping to speed limits means. A beautiful country but you've been warned if you ever want to drive, ride or even cross a road here!

  • Fuck you too, retarded gay... You are as stupid as those people

  • Theres nothing wrong with retarded people or gay people.

only fuktards who run across roads in front of racing cars.

  • FUCK YOU SkullKrusher69 ASSHOLE...

  • lol at 0:55 the guy crosses the road what a douchebag

  • Seriously it dosen't seem to anyone to blame, rally crashes happen all the time, and this one happened in a particularly bad spot.

  • no there was a fan in the middle of the road and the driver tried to dodge him and it made him loose control and crash on the other side, every driver complained there was people in the middle of the road and near misses, i think it can be exciting and all but when a less experienced driver or more nervous driver races in this condition that will happen....

  • you are talking a load of shite, what the ass do u expect when 500+ hp cars are driven at speed thru roads clogged with your asshole bretheren? how do you suppose the driver felt as he lost control trying to avoit the horses ass who ran across the road in the previous corner? No one with any common sense, who has driven on a road with people on both sides would talk as much arrant bullshit as you are

  • clarkson know much about cars. but not everything about motorsport. clarkson is not the only person who decides whats good and bad.

  • Wrong. Not ALL rallies had spectators in the middle of the road on stages. I spectated at the RAC rally all through the 1980s, and the marshalls and spectators were, and are, very well behaved.

The Portuguese have a different way of looking at life, it isn't as valuable to them as it is to the rest of us!

  • well if clarkson said it then it MUST be true... muppet

  • i´m portuguese but i have no doubts that this idiots change rally forever! Nevermind!

  • Dumbass spectators!!! The FIA should have put barriers and some restrained areas where spectators could watch at a safe distance. Had they done that Group b would still be with us today.

  • 3:31 is where Henri reads the statement. Tragically, He was to lose his life 2 rounds later at the Corsican event. RIP Henri.

  • I live there, it's was a beautiful place for rallying, it wasn't very dangerous at all; but that accident the rally was moved to the north of the country(at the time).

The real problem were the spectators, not so much the huge power of Group B cars (in this case).

  • Se me hiela la sangre al ver hablar a Henri Toivonen y pensar que el iba a fallecer poco timpo después.

  • Irresponsible idiots standing so close to the track. Always one group of people that has to ruin it for everyone.

  • Such a shame about group B rallying - drivers and cars were much better then IMO and spectators should have been restrained. So many great cars were spawned from group B such as the Audi Quattro

  • also il make it clear I have deepest sympathy for the families who lost their loved ones in this accident. RIP to them and group B

  • gotta love lancia

  • blame those idiot spectators!

  • Agree with you totally Silencer, those cars and their DRIVERS were awesome.I have watched in-car driving of Group B and how they drove them is beyond me!there were no paddle shifts then, those heroes drove most of the time with ONE hand, because of the power and speed came so fast and they were changing up and down in split seconds and boy were they nervous and twitchy cars.I drive in rallies my self, but not with anything like that power over the last twenty years.

  • I was there, not at that bend just 3 or 4 Km ahead. I was almost 18 years old and hitched hike to Sintra, and boy did I had fun that after morning until that fatal disaster. We were all drunk and on top of the trees and almost in the road (some times in the road). After that I never went to see another WRC.

  • Pretty sad to hear (read) that... You should go watch todays WRC again... Stewards take really good care so make the race save for spectators and drivers as well... Of course the "kick" will never be the same but watching (for example) Sebastan Loeb enter a turn sideways on a gravel rally... Dude, thats really amazing... Go see yourself...

  • They should all quit from the rally becaur in Tour de.... !!!!

  • que carros diabolicos

  • i agree spectators are really stupid sometimes....

but you gota think where were the track marshalls to sort where the spectators should be instead ov having spectors as walls

  • those spectators were idiots!

  • Its a miracle that a lot more were not killed. Such a pity the spectators could not behave themselves and act like human beings,a tragedy for this great rally.

  • and the end of the great group B...the fastest rally drivers in the world
