  • You should market that, who cares if its still too big when folded ITS A NOVELTY!

  • @scx493x thanks, it's a novelty alright. came in handy on my travels.

  • haha not bad not bad. i cant belive it stayed in tune after folding it up like that

  • @banjobubby thanks! sometimes i get lucky with the tuning.

  • another classic. I think this must be the at least the second time I've seen it!

  • @josephhoh thanks Joseph. it was a silly project uke and it doesn't get played very much but i did bring it on my trip to hawaii. it fit in my backpack along with my ipod and bag of trail mix.

  • would you help me form a trock band?

  • do you ever make uke tutorials? oh or write trock songs?

  • @charliemunroe113 rock songs, no. i write crappy pops songs. there are a couple dozen on my channel. for the closest thing to tutorials, check out my other channel, weezeruke.

  • @russbuss415 not rock Trock, timelord rock, songs about doctor who.

  • @charliemunroe113 ahh, wasn't familiar with that term. check out the UKISOCIETY channel. he has written a bunch of Doctor Who ukulele songs.

  • by the way, is that a concert sized or a tenor uku?

  • @charliemunroe113 this is a grizzly kit which only comes in soprano size. the stewmac website has both soprano and tenor kits.

  • does that have gear tuners?

  • @charliemunroe113 no it doesn't. the grizzly kit comes with cheapy friction tuners.

  • @russbuss415 so it's a piece of crap? also you're really good at the uku.

  • @charliemunroe113 well, not a total piece of crap. but it's only $25. you can't expect much for that. it plays just fine though, just not very loud. thanks for the comment.

  • @russbuss415 like I said earlier, I had the exact same Idea, and when i checked to see if it existed, I found this.

  • just yesterday, i had a similar idea.

  • Does the thumb screw have a sharp point like a regular screw or is it a bolt? I've seen the bolt type. My hardware store doesn't have any.

  • What size hinge did you use and what's the thumb screw thingy called on the back? Can I get that at a regular hardware store and what do I ask for? What's its purpose in the real world? Thanks. Biking around Denmark with this in my pannier.

  • @Martavogel you can find the hinge and screw at any hardware store. they are not part of the ukulele kit. the hinge is just a regular cabinet type hinge. i have no idea what the screw is meant for.

  • ha! ha! what a great idea, it's a pity i don't have one to travel! ;°)

  • This is great!

  • I don't know how I missed this till now. Brilliant, Russ.

  • I only just saw this - catching up on what I missed while I was away. Awesome Russ! What a great idea, and you've done it so well. I love that hinge doubling as the 12th fret! I had a bit of trouble with my uke at the airline counter going to Melbourne - I would have been fine with a Ben Doverlele!

  • That´s totally cool!

Thank you very much - and indeed - the sound is really good.

    5*!

  • That's wack, Russ! I like it.

  • I'd like to have one of those^^

  • So the Grizzly kits are sopranos ? Their site does not really say.

I love the build and the ingenuity.

Your vids are one of the reasons I started playing.

  • yes, the kits only come in soprano size. the stewmac website has soprano and tenor kits.

and thanks for the comment and support!

  • Very nice, Russel! I like your Hinge-a-lele!!

  • Way COOL, Russ! Thanks for sharing!

  • SO COOL...road Warrior, with plunk! LOL.amazing Russell, something tells me your mind is on summer UKE gatherings! LOL...we are all of us looking forward to spring/summer..! amazing this retained great tonal quality, after fold and refold, no buzz, etc.amazing, you are.(WAYfar from lame!hehehe) !!!!PS...gads, post a self patent, quick!

    Laurie

  • Patent that shizzle right now.

  • haha, you were WAYYYYYY bored! Great idea. You could put it in a gallon zip lock bag with your sandwich and enjoy a picnic!

  • that is freaking amazing man.

  • that is way too awesome.

  • That's limber, not lame!

  • I like the 12th fret!

  • Have to put a Northern headstock on it. :)

  • Russ this is too cool!!

  • very cool r&b. maybe you could try a switchblade uke next? push a button and the neck pops out!

  • haha, too cool!

  • You have way too much time on your hands.

    However...(eyes uke menacingly)

  • foldable - wow, that´s great!!! :))))

  • lame! more like cool

  • Perfect for ninjas.

  • foldtastic

  • Wow very cool stuff, Russ. What about making a void in the neck heel and putting lollies?

  • omg ....the uke gets even smaller...very cute!

  • LOL- its not April 1st yet is it ??

  • Very cool. How about a cigar box type and put the neck on the top or bottom then you could fold it down or up. Does that make sense?

  • Brilliant idea, Russ.

  • :)))))))))))))))))))

  • Madness or genious, I'm not sure. Ben Dover sounds like a porn name and I'm now thinking of how a clever paint job could enhance that line of thinking...

  • Aha, I had no clue you were an inventor too, Russ. If you start a company, can I be your Marketing specialist? :-)

  • That's too cool! What's next, an inflatable uke? LOL

  • Totally useless but neat! In the tradition of the ukulele: even the stupid things about it make you smile.

  • That is so cool! I'm amazed it stays in tune. Could be the answer to fitting a full sized guitar into an overhead on a plane...

  • thats awesome! :D

  • Brilliant! I went to college with a guy named Ben Dover... At least that's what they called him at the graduation ceremony...

  • That is a great idea, you should patent it. I love the ben Doverlele

  • Brilliant.

Next I'd like to see a "Star Trek" uke with blinky lights and control panels.

  • put something like a kapo at the bend (piece of wire) and you wont loose your string stretch.

  • now thats awesome Russ

  • Brilliant. I've actually thought of doing that myself.

  • very cool!

  • Hahaha. Very cool. Create a case for it and all that time will seem worth it ;)

  • very ingenious. you have skills. -john

  • wow thats awesome

  • lkasdkajszkjfkanf!!!!

    That's friggen awesome

  • Yep Russ...too much time on your own ...get out the house!

  • Russ you are a genius. And probably something of a mind reader.

  • Fiendishly clever.

    Some name suggestions:

    Uke-o-lapsible

    Foldawawele

because of how it looks when collapsed, Turtlelele....

    ...I'll go now!

  • Ben Dover was a renowned proctologist ya know. haha You are pretty inventive. How about the GCEAUturn?

  • Fair play! I want one now. Maybe it's an idea for eBay? You might be able to charge less in packaging compared to other sellers!

    Regardless, fantastic idea!

  • Fiendishly clever. Uke-o-lapsible? Hinjolele? Ukeinhalf?

  • Cool uke, but I keep thinking about you in nothing but that toolbelt...

  • Very cool!!

  • Dude - that thing is great.

  • That's such a cool design! I would think that that constant stretching and relaxing would freak the strings out a lot more than it did. good ol' uke strings!

  • I do stuff like this too... The Mahalo Flying V uke I have has been sanded to the natural finish and I installed Grover tuning pegs and modified the sound hole as well. I have never added a hinge though... pretty cool, I like it.

  • Great idea Russ. I like it! It might not save space, but now when you pack your uke, you can disguise it as something else... I suppose...

  • What a brilliant idea!

  • Freaking awesome prototype!

  • hahahaha classic name I love it. Best portable Uke EVER
