A friend sent me the link because she knows I love listening to the bagpipes! I could listen to them for hours!!!
My only problem was that it was way too short!!! One of my best friends (deceased now) was originally from Motherwell, Scotland, so I got to hear the bagpipes a lot!!!
R.I.P Grandpa John McLorn from Clan of Lorn. You were but a farmer, a ranch hand. For ever loving your Scottish back ground and i was yet just a kid living in a fast paced world. Your stories of Scotland heard by my young def ears were not forgotten but engraved in my heart. I will forever tell of your stories to my children and theirs to come. Your hands once worked the fields of Scotland as a young lad until you were brought to the land of the free. We love and miss you very much John Mclorn
@soozin1962 Yeah, especially since one of the composers, namely Michael Korb, took lessons for the pipes from Paddy Atkinson from 1975 onwards...several years before he and Uli Roever composed the song. Doh, dude, stop this stupid false nationalism, stick to the facts and enjoy the musc, ok?
There is a land far from this distant shore Where heather grows and Highland eagles soar There is a land that will live ever more Deep in my heart, my Bonnie Scotland Though I serve so far away I still see your streams, cities and dreams I can't wait until the day When I'll come home once more to my Bonnie Scotland And so Lord keep me from the harm of war Through all its dangers and the battle's roar Keep me safe until I'm home once more Home to my own in Bonnie Scotland
I was heard this Hymn 20 years ago at a Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City. It was performed by the Salt Lake Scots Pipe Band. I have returned every year since for the annualm blessing of the Tartans and this song. Proud to be a Scotsman.
makes you proud to be scottish this is absoloutly amazing and it is true no matter what happens the scottish will always stand as one and never back down to any1 or anything. FACT. Thanks for posting your a legend. HAMILL
I live in Salisbury and was fortunate enough to meet a couple of the guys in the pub before the concert.(aye the jock ones).Never got in the city hall but could listen to this all day.Alba Gu Brath
I love this tune. There are several different versions of the words for this song. The original tune had no words and was written I believe, by a couple Germans.
Oh dear. I should read the comments before I post. I just said what lot's of others said. but great tune specially written for the pipes and even as an Englishman it makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck!
I think hearing the bagpipes stirrs up the celtic blood in all of is Brits, it sends shivers down my spine. If scotland is good for anything, its the 'pipes, no one else except maybe the Bretons In Brittany can do it as well
I am so glad I found this video. :) It is perfect at displaying the elegant tradition of Scotland. My family background is Scottish, therefore, this relates to me perfectly. I have an uncle who works for the Scotland Yard Police Dept. I salute ya Uncle!! From your Niece!!!
Yes, me too - did you ever see the video of the ceremony when the British left Hong Kong? When Chris Patten as the last Governor left and the flag was lowered to the strains of Highland Cathedral - very, very moving. It's on You Tube somewhere, I'll bet.

"Highland Cathedral" was indeed written by the two germans in 1982. It was written for the Highland Games in Germany. It has been proposed as the Scottish national anthem to replace Scotland the brave / Flower of Scotland.

and verse 3 & 4 are as follows;
Gone is the past, let us start anew,
Let this hope of peace always remain.
Spirit of Scotia be strong and true,
Then our children will smile again, again, again, again.
Rise, Caledonia, let your voices ring
In this Highland Cathedral of our God and King.
Who joy and liberty to all will bring.
Come let your heart with love and courage sing
schwabos 4 years ago 2
Land of my fathers, we will always be
Faithful and loyal to our own country.
In times of danger we will set you free,
Lead you to glory and to victory.
Hail, Caledonia, to our ancient prayer,
In this Highland Cathedral let our standards bear,
Joining together with one dream to share,
God bless the people of this land so fair.
