  • A friend sent me the link because she knows I love listening to the bagpipes! I could listen to them for hours!!!

My only problem was that it was way too short!!! One of my best friends (deceased now) was originally from Motherwell, Scotland, so I got to hear the bagpipes a lot!!!

  • EXELLENT PIPEBAND A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO.

  • .....Would you believe Highland Cathedral!

  • may i ask what song is this?

  • Holy crap!!! When the other bag pipes joined in it was almost pure escasty for my ears.

  • The pipes ALWAYS make this the most beautiful song.

  • Thank you!

  • magnifique!!!!!!!!! la cornemuse , c'est magique!!!! great song.

  • This has to be one of the best versions of Highland Cathedral. It was played with

Pride and you can feel the passion Passion. I took part in it and it still gives me goosebumps.

  • R.I.P Grandpa John McLorn from Clan of Lorn. You were but a farmer, a ranch hand. For ever loving your Scottish back ground and i was yet just a kid living in a fast paced world. Your stories of Scotland heard by my young def ears were not forgotten but engraved in my heart. I will forever tell of your stories to my children and theirs to come. Your hands once worked the fields of Scotland as a young lad until you were brought to the land of the free. We love and miss you very much John Mclorn

  • What you just wrote really touched me deep inside.

God bless you and your wonderful Country.

    Greetings from Italy.

  • I was at this it was a great nights entertainment

  • No offence but Mike Oldfield is not in a Pipe Band,

    do you catch my drift!.

  • i like the version by mike oldfield it is much faster

  • thus surely has to be one of the most stirring pieces of music ever written

  • It may have been composed by Germans, but the pipe score was put together by a scotsman..My Brother!!!

  • Many thanks for taking the time to tell us all. Appreciated.

  • @soozin1962 well done to him it is a beautiful song played on the pipes and listened to by so many people across the world.

  • @soozin1962 Yeah, especially since one of the composers, namely Michael Korb, took lessons for the pipes from Paddy Atkinson from 1975 onwards...several years before he and Uli Roever composed the song. Doh, dude, stop this stupid false nationalism, stick to the facts and enjoy the musc, ok?

  • There is a land far from this distant shore Where heather grows and Highland eagles soar There is a land that will live ever more Deep in my heart, my Bonnie Scotland Though I serve so far away I still see your streams, cities and dreams I can't wait until the day When I'll come home once more to my Bonnie Scotland And so Lord keep me from the harm of war Through all its dangers and the battle's roar Keep me safe until I'm home once more Home to my own in Bonnie Scotland

  • Yes, me too - did you ever see the video of the ceremony when the British left Hong Kong? When Chris Patten as the last Governor left and the flag was lowered to the strains of Highland Cathedral - very, very moving. It's on You Tube somewhere, I'll bet.

  • and verse 3 & 4 are as follows;

Gone is the past, let us start anew,

Let this hope of peace always remain.

Spirit of Scotia be strong and true,

Then our children will smile again, again, again, again.

Rise, Caledonia, let your voices ring

In this Highland Cathedral of our God and King.

Who joy and liberty to all will bring.

Come let your heart with love and courage sing

  • Land of my fathers, we will always be

Faithful and loyal to our own country.

In times of danger we will set you free,

Lead you to glory and to victory.

Hail, Caledonia, to our ancient prayer,

In this Highland Cathedral let our standards bear,

Joining together with one dream to share,

God bless the people of this land so fair.

  • There is a land far from this distant shore Where heather grows and Highland eagles soar There is a land that will live ever more Deep in my heart, my Bonnie Scotland Though I serve so far away I still see your streams, cities and dreams I can't wait until the day When I'll come home once more And so Lord keep me from the harm of war Through all its dangers and the battle's roar Keep me safe until I'm home once more Home to my own in Bonnie Scotland

  • An excellent performance of an inspiring song! Several sets of lyrics have been written. See my previous post.

  • Lyrics 1998 by Terry Mechan: There is a land far from this distant shore Where heather grows and Highland eagles soar. There is a land that will live ever more, Deep in my heart, my Bonnie Scotland. Though I serve so far away, I still see her dreams, cities and streams. I can't wait until the day When I'll come home once more. So Lord keep me from the harm of war, Through all its dangers and the battles roar. Keep me safe until I'm home once more, Home to my own in Bonnie Scotland.
