  • he suffers from the yips i hear. i do too. i feel his pain.

  • man if you talked to me like that i would shoved that camra down you throat.

  • @balili i'm pretty sure it is.

  • Wow, I just looked at Ankiel's AAA stats in 2001. He pitched a total of 4.1 innings in 3 games, had a 20.77 ERA, walked 17 batters, threw 12 wild pitches, and yet he never hit a batter and only allowed 3 hits.

  • tough to watch. amazing what the power of the mind can do to professional athletes. all of the assholes heckling him don't help much either.

  • cameo by jason werth

  • @EMACxSWAGxRecords that's not THE jayson werth of Washington

  • wow jayson werth making an appearance

  • Back on June 20, 2000, he struck out Barry Bonds three times. I don't know if Bonds has struck out three times against the same pitcher since. Just shows how nasty he could have been if he didn't lose it.

  • that year he pitched rookie ball and only gave up 18 walks in 87 innings and then he got called up to AAA and gave up 17 walks in 4 innings

  • Anybody know where I can find video of the 2000 NLCS game where he loses it? Its a shame though, he had nasty stuff

  • if tony larussa didnt have rick start game 1 in the 2000 division series, hed prolly be one the best pitchers right now, at age of 20 at that time, i think he was under too much pressure, even tony larussa in his autobiography said it was "a decision that perhaps haunts him more than any he has ever made"

  • OHHHHHHHHHH RICCCCKKKYYYY!!!!

  • i want to punch the shit out of the drunks who keep screamin "Whoooaa Ricky!"...get out there and see if your drunk ass can do any better. Rick is a great outfielder now. Wish the Cards still had him

  • @stlc4life

anyone could do better than THAT

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you Rick for that BOMB you hit on the giants in game 2, AWESOME

  • @rubbersoul420 hey how'd that series work out for u guys?

  • sad........

  • this is so hard to look at

  • I remember watching him melt down in the playoffs that one year. Me and my dad just were speechless.

  • ITs awesome hes come back in the majors to kick ass, like the other night for the braves with his winning base clearing triple, go rick! what a case study in psychology tho

  • i feel bad for the guy.

  • If this was me singing and talking like a jackass with my loser friend in this video and I heard myself I would have set it on fire, and tried my best to forget about it and not put on youtube, but that's just me...

  • At least he can throw better than JeMarcus Russell...

  • This is so fuckign sad.

  • This guy is truly disappointed for Ricky lol. At least now he's a pretty good hitter.

  • @dolphinmagic24fan He's a real good hitter if he can stay healthy. I live in STL and the guy can flat out play. He just destroys the ball when he's healthy. He can run, he can field, and he has the best arm of any OF that I have ever seen in my life. He was becoming a star before he face planted into the wall one night and wasnt the same after it. Feel bad for the guy because he hasn't put it all together. He's gettin up there and doesn't have many years left. But he could have been truly great.

  • He was a great pitcher, too bad the pressure got to him. He was what, 19 or 20 years old pitching in the playoffs?

  • I am sooooo glad to c rick ankiel gone. He showed us he couldnt pitch. Then he showed us he could hit. Then he showed us he couldnt hit. Now all he can do is strike out! HAVE A GREAT CAREER RICK "NO STICK" ANKIEL!!!

  • while your talking about how nice volvos are rick is making money playing pro baseball. its ok to hate im sure he couldnt hear you for all the hot teen pussy screaming at him, like at all the stl games i have been to.

  • wen the cards get far ahead against like the pirates they should have him pitch a inning or 2 like nick swisher did for the yankees

  • @ xplodingcarzproducts

yeah his final career game should be as a pitcher hitting 3rd. so great to see him doing well in the pros now. kinda sad to see him leave st louis tho. im not even a cards fan

  • He got off the mound, picked up a bat, and the rest is his history. Great Story. I like this guy. Not to mention he has a hose coming out of the outfield. I mean throwin out people from the wall taking one step is pretty freakin sickk.

  • No kidding. I'll root for him until he hangs it up. Hopefully he can still get enough playing time in St. Louis with their new acquisitions in the outfield.

  • LOL...one advantage of putting a pitcher's arm in the outfield! Maybe everybody should condition themselves as a pitcher...

  • Hilarious that he can throw strikes from center field, but not from the pitching mound.

  • the narrator sounds like johnny knoxville

  • so pretty much what joecandito is saying is that hockey players are natuarlly gifted at their sport and track athlete have to use drugs to be good at their sport.

  • is that Jason Werth at 5:17?

  • thats what i was wondering

  • Comment removed

  • and at least I am wasting my time DEFENDING someone and not wasting it slandering someone who had a horrible career fall only to come back and play another position at the highest level.

    you effete ass clown

  • Jim: You seem to be defending Ankiel a little too vociferously. Is there some sort of attachment/affection that you should let us know about?

  • Ok first of all, if you say he is a cheater, then provide some fucking backup for your argument and show me some proof. otherwise shut the fuck up. Secondly, I played Junior Hockey in St. Louis for 2 years so I highly doubt that that you are even remotely close to as athletic as me. How about you learn how to write instead of using the letter u like an adolescent texting fuck. show me the proof like a man and we will see...

  • hockey player are u? really athletic. the only thing that seperates u from gay figure skater is the outfit. Junioer Hockey. is that like minor leagues. either way. its hockey. i run track. and he did cheat. everybody who was caught had a "reason" and if u believe that then your an idiot

  • yo bro dont even fucking think about talking shit about hockey if you run track...id like to see you take a hit and then get back up after it or step in front of a 80mph shot and stop it....dont hurt yourself hurdling you pussy

  • im probaly stronger than u and could take your fat unathletic ice skating butt down. sprinters could beat up hockey players anyday and hockey players pride themselves on "toughness"

  • id rather pride myself on toughness than a fucking hurdle...and here's something for you, how many hockey players can run in circles compared to how many track runners can skate circles?

  • i dont run hudles. im a sprinter. most sprinte could beat up hockey players no poblem. hockey players are poor white tash sluggs. u pobaly have a beer belly

  • wow sprinting..your so tough...how do you manage? and btw i dont play in a beer league 1 because im 16 and 2 because i play to compete in a sport where physical contact is part of the game...i hope you realize you can't win this because sprinting involves no contact at all so unless you plan on kicking my ass while running i will brutally fuck you up

  • um sprinters have to be totally jacked while hockey sluggs have the same physique as an average guy in a bar. im sure i lift wieghts more than u which means im stonger. u probaly cant bench press your own body weight

  • ok explain to me how and why track players should be stronger than hockey players...and don't tell me about what you do b/c i couldn't give a shit...i can understand track players having strong legs and a strong cardio system or w/e you wanna call it but when it comes to upper body and aggression track falls nowhere near hockey

  • if u wanna know the impotance of uppe body stength in track athletes look at any sprinter. mauice geene, ben johnson, and ato boldon to name a few.

if u want me to explan why upper body strength is impotant in sprinting, then tell me. its not woth explaining if u dont care

  • well then don't explain because i dont care anymore about that or this arguement...all im gonna say is walk up to anyone you want and ask which player is stronger and more aggressive and i bet you 99.99% of the people will say hockey players

  • i agree that this arguement is stupid. honestly, both spots require dedication and heart. im just sayin track guys are way moe athletic. hockey playes maybe moe aggressive, but definately not stronger. i never hear hockey playerrs getting caught for steroids becasue it wouldnt help that much. sprinter roid up because they have to be well conditioned beasts

  • ite theyre both athletic and strong

  • ok, i dont really like hating on someone or thei sport. im glad we can agree

  • word

  • mommy must be so proud of her little bitch. god dude stop arguing online homo.

  • we did you faggot...try reading before saying shit dumbass

  • try reading in general.

  • all you guys who think he is a steroid loser can suck it and sit there in your dark rooms surrounded by mountain dew while you play your fucking gay ass warcraft bullshit and your mom brings you frozen tacos and remember that none of you will ever get laid you fat fucks

  • no. hes just a cheater. i am more athletic than u. whats sad is your wasting your time defending someone who doesnt care or know about u

  • He's not a cheater. The HGH was prescribed to him by a doctor, when he wasn't even playing, and before it was illegal...genius

  • haha whooooooooa. good comeback? "yea,.... wel.....l im more athletic than u!!" go cardinals!

  • u brought it up

  • lol!!! your funny!!! thumbs up!

  • being a pitcher myself once, this would be hard to watch for me. i'm glad rick made his way back to the bigs, and put days like this one behind him

  • A great comeback story. I wish the guy the best. Seems like a good guy.

  • your retarded

  • no i just idolize cheaters who dont deserve an bit of my respect. i respect you more than him even though your ignorant

  • this just goes to show you what a good baseball palyer can do when he doesnt quit just cuase things dont go the way you want. from good pitcher to awful to all-start outfielder. this guy is making catches like jim edmonds now. i dont like the cards but ill root for a guy like rick any day

  • The most talkative people at a baseball game are the ones that have no clue what the f**k is going on. Schmuck doing the running commentary ran away from playing baseball the first time he saw a breaking ball.

  • i wish..

  • Did he break his neck?

  • no. he sat himself up and waved to the crowd.

  • i cant watch this its painful

its all good now though hes an allstar caliber centerfielder

  • I'm not sure if this was the same game, but I did look it up and Ankiel had threw 5 wild pitches in the same inning on October 5, 2000. Only 3 other pitchers have thrown 5 wild pitches in a game.

  • How wood you like to be the batter! i wood ratherr be canadian!

  • Hey guys that is me number #3 Chad Hermansen on deck. I remember this game. It was even tough to watch as a player, you hate to see this stuff. Rick was actually probably one of the nastiest lefthanded pitchers I ever faced when he was on. He could buckle right handed hitters with his curveball it was that good. Luckily he can hit and has made it as an OF. Good for you Rick!

  • do u still play baseball

  • @partnerwithhermansen Former Chicago Cub Chad Hermansen? Very cool!

Rick was nasty to watch. Gave a lot of hitters fits. It's truly a shame what happened to him and his control. Thankfully he's revived his career and recreated himself as a guy I'll probably never forget.

  • @partnerwithhermansen I know you. I use to play with you all oh the time on World Series Baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

  • @partnerwithhermansen you were terrible. pittsburgh doesn't like you.

  • @partnerwithhermansen Not to be mean dude, but weren't you one of the biggest bust in pirates history ?

  • @mistgl Yet I'm sure he has more money than you.

  • @partnerwithhermansen Nice walkup music with metallica!!!

  • I "wood" prefer you learned how to spell.

  • was once the best pitching prospect, now a stud CF good for rickie

  • Gosh he sucked as a pitcher.

  • Nah, he was good but started to have psyco problems to control his pitches

  • Actually he had the stuff to beoome a multiple cy young winner. Summer of 2000 was incredible to watch him deal.

  • i kinda wish he would have thrown a wild one at the idiots filming and heckling...Volvos are for douchebags.

  • Really STLFISHER? Ankiel's position changes are more drastic than overcoming drugs and addiction? You're either biased or just plain stupid.

  • i'd say biased...GO Cards!

  • u guys are all talkin about ankiel and hamilton i think ankiels story is better he had 2 change positons and learn how 2 play the outfield and learn how to hit and he can field throw and hit really good all hamilton did was stop bein such a junkie. but it is still a good story but ankiels story is far better. end of discussion

  • i love the cards but seriously. Ankiel was the best hitter coming outta highschool. josh hamilton didn't even play for 4 years. Both amzaing stories but hamlton wins

  • yea but ankile is on hgh so i dnt even count his come bck he a peice of scum

  • Did you not follow the story? A doctor prescribed them to help with his shoulder recovery, and this was before they were outlawed by MLB.

  • My bad, I screwed up my own argument, it was outlawed by then. Regardless, it's not a Roger Clemens type situation, and the fact that he was open about it shows he doesn't think he did anything illegal.

  • I screwed it up again, he got the shipment in 2004, it wasn't illegal until 2005. Why do I suck at life today?

  • Being a rival of another team doesn't give me the right to be an asshole... some people think it gives them that right. Ankiel took 'roids twice, but if you notice the trend, the guys that admit to it and say they're sorry are the ones that still play and are out of the headlines. The guys that are iffy are the players that everyone despises.

"Juice" doesn't make one a better athlete, it makes one a stronger athlete. A player has to be good no matter what. Bonds was a HOFer before the steroids.

  • I don't think anyone would disagree that Bonds should go to the HOF. I think the thing that bothers most fans is that Bonds broke two of the most hallowed records in baseball and they were records that did indeed require strength to do it. It is hard to give him credit for his records when you see a marked increase in homers after he took steroids. Aaron and Maris never took steroids. I hope they criminally convict him for this-it is a farce that he holds the records he does.

  • i would definately disagree with bonds going to the hall

  • I guess this was taken before he got all juiced up.

  • What makes Ankiel even more of a badass is that he had a second chance, and not only has he been good, he's taken that chance and been phenomenal! Go Cubs.

  • That's a classy response and from a Cubs fan. I am TOTALLY amazed with Rick Ankiel... ... he was supposed to be the NEXT GREAT PITCHER until this virus of wild pitches arrived in the NLDS. Then to fall off the face of the earth......... and come back in the fashion he has..... AMAZING STORY ON SOOOOO MANY LEVELS!!! I love you Rick..... another cool thing to mention, you look like Kenny Chesney. My friends and I refer to you as Kenny Chesney now... "Kenny Chesney went yabo today" haha

  • best athlete in baseball... hands down

  • agreed

  • what the hell u taliking about? Josh Hamilton is.

  • sorry, i don't remember hamilton throwing 96 mph with a devastating hook

  • Hes not even pitching anymore, and when he was throwing 96 mph with a devastating hook it was a pass ball every time.

  • sorry, i dont remember ankiel coming back from drug and alcohol addictions, not playhing baseball for 3 years and coming back to play in the majors, and being the number 1 overall pick when he was drafted (i forget the year)...and some pro scouts said hes the best player theyve ever seen...and i dont remember ankiel hitting 2 or 3 balls over 500 feet in the home run derby either

  • well that idiot put that on himself, and as far as the pass ball thing, he had 15 wins and led the majors in strikeouts at age 19. and the home run derby thing, those are pumped up balls, no one hits like that in games

  • home run derbys dont prove anything

  • true that man GO RANGERS

  • lol tymeilborg

  • Let's See - 57 home runs - that's Fifty-Seven home runs the last year and a half. If that's not bordering on Roy Hobbs - I don't know what is. Since 1960, name anyone else who even resembles doing what he's doing.

  • i bet he goes down in history as one hell of a comeback kid.

  • he's better than cubs outfeilder jim edmonds

  • Can't you all see it now? Long, extra inning game and the bullpen is empty...nobody left to pitch...Ankiel comes in from Center in the bottom of 15th or something and wins a game...

  • shu miaf

  • yeah boy

  • "come on blue he got it across the plate that counts!'

    lmao

and to think now hes one of the best outfielders in the National League

  • thats a force, he isn't one of the best outfielders in the nl

  • uh excuse me but yea he is.

He's helped the team out so much, and yes he may not be one of the best fielder (even tho hes made some pretty damn good plays considering his trasistion just a year ago) in the NL but he sure as hell is one of the best hitting outfielders in the NL

so really i do think he is one of the best outfielders in the NL right now

  • he gets mad assists. 2 in one game afew weeks ago.

  • Yea he threw a guy out at third and home like 2 weeks ago i think and like 2 weeks ago he made an amazing catch to rob a homer

  • yeah i hate the guy because i am a stros fan, but he has a freakin cannon of an arm. he threw a direct strike from the warning track to 3rd base with no momentum and absolutely nailed it there. he can play center field, right field, and left. i'd say he was up there with the best in the nl.

  • but guess what? those were the ONLY assist he has all season. He just got lucky. I saw a game a couple of months ago and he airmailed the catcher.

  • lol

  • thats not true. now he has 4 assist since i last posted and thats not second in the mlb. Abreu has 10 and theres probably numerous others who have more than 4. please dont tell me i dont know the stuff, whens it you who got it wrong.

  • hes second in the league in assist dumbass

  • he has more assists than those. look up your stats next time you speak

  • no he isn't. is hitting .250 what one fo the best outfielders would do?

  • lol 250 points higher than you hit...

  • OOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Burn!!!

  • but if a dude hits .010 then its still 10 points higher than me but its not good. so whats your point?

  • you're bagging on a dude thats doing solid in the pros while you are not even in it i just don't think that you have the right to do that.

  • how are those human growth hormones working for him?

  • Yeah he is doing good now, but it would have been a lot easier of him to have never melted down, he was a top prospect, SP's make a lot more than outfielders.

  • I swear I just responded to this, but you're not even close to right. Of the top 20 salaries in baseball, 5 are pitchers. The top 7 salaries are position players. You can check out the top 50 salaries at CBSsportsline web page.

  • Yeah but you multiple pitchers salary times 5 since they only work every fifth day instead of every day like a real player. :p

  • Ohhhhh...I gotcha. Personally I'd rather play every day than every fifth...even if it means less money per game played, but to each his own.

  • im from stl and watching ankiel before he was wild he could have been one of the best in the league his curveball is nasty...its all in his head

  • It's easier watching the video knowing there was actually a happy ending to all this. God is with you, Rick.

  • LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO@"keep your forehead outta my shot."

  • That guy is a SOLDIER! He has put up with more shit than any other player! All that work to become a pitcher and get boo-ed for years, come back as a tremendous hitter, and then gett accused of roids and heckled more! He hasnt gone ape shit yet which i think is amazing!

  • But what i dun get is that would'nt HGH used wear off after you stop using it??

  • poor ankiel. that must have been so embarrassing.he couldnt really help it cause his arm was messed up. he is doing so much better now as one of the cards best players.

  • I just rode in your dads new volvo...and it is FLYYYYYY

  • maybe he should stick to left field lol

about the HGH: it was the most overblown story of 2007. I mean, he took it YEARS ago, can we not just DROP THE STORY and meave the guy alone?

  • I was going to have my Memphis Redbirds jersey personalized with Ankiel's name and number, but I don't want to deal with dickwads spewing garbage like, "HE SHOT UP ON STEROIDS IN TEH BUTT LOLOL!!" It's stupid how many IGNORANT people there are in the world that don't know shit.

  • yeah i no

  • oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh ricky! lol

  • umm,no, im pretty sure baseball started testing for illegal steroid testing in 2002 and Bonds wasnt accused of steroid uses around the 2006 season....so YOU might want a reality check

  • and he should never be compared to Barry Bonds whos accused of steroids when they were legal (but knobody even knos the ful story behind that either, so next time you talk have some sense

  • yeah, steroids were legal when Bonds took them.

might want to check your law books on that one.

  • Steroids haven't been legal for a long, long fucking time. You're a stupid, ignorant kid.

  • wow, u have my pitty lol sports and life are 2 differnt things soo dont hate life dude, first off Ankiel isnt an asshole by far, hes never done anything bad to the media or fans, the HGH thing was legal and perscribed for his injury recovery when it was legal..he wasnt even playing baseball(not even minor leauge), its still the feel good story of the year to people who kno the whole thing

  • Man I feel bad for Rick in this video. I am so happy he made a comeback. Its the story of the year and it shouldnt be overshadowed by the HGH allegations because he took HGH when it was legal and stopped taking HGH when it was legal. It's not even a story!!! Leave Rick alone. Cardinals have an 11 game home stand and I can only hope he starts back where he left off with 2 HR, 7 RBI game. Go Cards!

  • don't get mad at barry then cause no1 knows what he took.

  • mwatson7590...ure doing nothing but worsening Bonds appearance, Ankiel is nothing like Bonds, steroids and HGH are 2 totally differnt substances..if its legal, whats wrong? he was recovering as do thousands of Americans each day Bonds is accused of using steroids when it WAS illegal, what point are you trying to prove?

  • ur full of shit, ankiel got caught with a years worth of hgh. name what bonds did and how much. u dont know. ankiel is an asshole and somebody needs to see past the feel good story bullshit. he cheated. but hes a feel good story so everyone looks the other way. he and shawn merriman. how the fuck does that guy get endorsements. meanwhile TO is criticized daily for getting into arguments. i fucking hate you, espn, and the world. especially you.

  • hahahah he sucks

    i hate him passionately

why does he take a curtain call every time he ties his shoes? plus he cheats

  • burn in hell jerk

  • his doctor prescribed it before it was illegal he did nothing wrong.

    rot in hell

  • It comes as no surprise that you are a Bonds supporter. Now just calm down, take your medication, and try to adjust your outlook. It will be better soon. Meanwhile, I would suggest that you not put down threats in writing. Sometimes that could get you a straightjacket. But then again, I suspect you are used to that.

  • WOA RICKY!!!!

  • Too bad these HGH allegations have to cloud hiws comeback henceforth

  • shut up get a life

  • the best thing is these jerks that took this video are bums and rick is still in major....why dont they film him now.....die you losers
