  • his films have very big and tragic moments, he represented the human nature like nobody else, beside this, he great superb masterpieces, he was in my humble opinion the best movie director in history.

  • @drchepa hell yeah

  • Is this the guy they got Fedor's nickname from?

  • Deep

  • her daughter looks just like him

  • better than the american directors ... actually they are not americans ... all italians ... americans are low life motherfuckers ... japanese people hate americans .. so do i.

  • @AliJalal93 They really dont. They were some of the few people not constantly shit talking Americans after the Iraq war

  • @AliJalal93 You dumb fuck, what do you think americans are? We are made up of all peoples in varying percentages...Coppola, and Scorsese are american, not italian; like me they may be of that descent, but their primary cultural roots are americana. Enjoy your sand dunes towel-head.

  • @saltjunkie77 go fuck your sister dumbass! get out, america is for red indians only u madda fucka!

  • @AliJalal93 You are a moron. All the native from the east coast of America initially migrated from northern Europe, as proved by recent DNA studies. So your asshole stereotype that the US belongs to natives, has no basis in fact, much like all you say.

  • @saltjunkie77 shut up and GET OUT!

  • @AliJalal93 All of this hate isn't very helpful to you or your fellow human beings. I thought we were watching a video about a director. How does it come to this hate talk? How can you hate someone you've never seen or heard speak? People are people. Judge them on their own actions not people's actions. If you judge everybody to be like the worst members of their race then we're all equally shitty.

  • My favourite Kurosawa movie is Dodes kaden. Nobody even mentions that movie when discussing A.K. but I love it.

  • 0:17 Not Kasuko. She is Kazuko.

  • Ikiru is way up there as maybe his finest in my opinion.Nice to see tribute being paid to it recently in Aronofskys The Fountain.

  • the most influencial director of te 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000 film directors! greatgreat director!

  • Silent Running was an influence he used when he made RAN.

  • "He made, you know, eight masterpieces."

He made more than that, I think, but great encapsulation. The man's genius was simply immense

  • Did anyone notice Colonel Sanders?

  • what's the name of the silent movie with the severed hand ?

  • @hulu55565

this jap man produced shit which you do not deserve to smell.

  • thank you for posting this video. Kurosawa is a teacher, a true guide to us all.

  • happy birthday akira kurosawa

  • P.S. Happy 100th Birthday, Akira Kurosawa!

  • I have only seen Shichinin no Samurai and Yojimbo so far, but I'm going to watch Ran, Throne of Blood and Rashomon soon. :D

Nothing compares to those two movies...

  • throne of blood takes the cake, i love that movie

and stop talking aboout f-ing avatar, that piece of shit can't be compared to Kurosawa's work

  • My favorite movie of all time its yojimbo and then the hidden fortress

  • @gango13 loved kurosawa since i was young. Always loved rain. Love the sound of it just chills me out. kurosawa does that to me.

  • @gango13 dam right, my personal favourite is Seven Samurai, please comment back saying why Throne of Blood is your favourite

  • @LongJonBronze i don't know but the whole plot/story and of course toshiro mifune's acting is just marvellous. i'm a big kurosawa fan he's one of my idols!

  • @gango13 Exactly. To compare Avatar to a Kurosawa film would be like comparing a retarded college student project to an artist's painting.

  • 若い日本人にもっと黒澤映画を観てほしい。

  • yojimbo...is a classic and everyone should see...the opening seen is epic

  • Thank you very much for putting this up. Best reminder why hyped movies like 'Avatar' suck badly.

  • Kurosawa for sure wouldn't put a bad script like that of Avatar on film. Quote from Kurosawa:

"With a good script, a good director can produce a masterpiece. With the same script, a mediocre director can produce a passable film. But with a bad script even a good director can't possibly make a good film. For truly cinematic expression, the camera and the microphone must be able to cross both fire and water. The script must be something that has the power to do this."

  • Great comment, you are right.

  • Except his films are much higher quality and of creativity than sell-out shit like Avatar.

  • @Hanz780 now don't be comparing avatar to kurosawa. avatar was'nt a bad movie. actuallly pretty damn good. but nothing can compare to kurosawa. thats a given.

  • @adamndirtyshame ...youdont know anything about movies if you think that kurosawas movies wouldve been better if he couldve done them in 3D..

  • speaking of avatar i think japanese anime and disney movies were great masterpiece.expressing many things wihtout cg yet outstanding..but3d art has its own beauty and style

  • @Dorfkanal

So true. 'Avatar' is incredibly overrated and the battle sequences are so badly staged and look insignificant in comparison to what Kurosawa's war samurai/war films.

  • Ikiru is my favorite among of Kurosawa's movies.

  • Viewing Kurosawa's works you should start with his best, Seven Samurai. Then High and Low. Then the great color film Ran. He is an artist in the ranks of Mozart , Michelangelo, Van Gogh, and John Ford. His films ARE important.

  • @brisco42 Don't forget my favorite, Ikiru

  • Of course all of his films should be watched, especially Ikiru. What a wonderful film that is. Made me cry with joy. Thank you.

  • @brisco42 I remember starting with Rashomon then Seven Samurai, Ran, Kagemusha, Sanjuro, Yojimbo, Dreams, Madadayo, and Hidden Fortress, still am with his first films then later his post-war films. I agree, his works are important and still are significant to cinema.

  • @brisco42 Dont Forget Ikiru, Red Beard, Yojimbo. Even his small films like Scandal, Stray Dog, madadayo

  • @AutomatedCritic I also love Drunken Angel, his first film with actor Toshiro Mifune. I agree with you on those films you picked. I do like Sanjuro over Yojimbo. And it's funny because I always liked For A Few Dollars More than A Fistful Of Dollars which these two Leone films are based after. Bad Sleep Well also a very underrated film by Kurosawa.

  • @brisco42 Drunken Angel doesnt have much focus though where u dont know where the film is gonna go.

Scandal and Quiet Duel were underrated. Plus Kurosawa was diverse with his movies. Samurai, epics, dramas, etc

  • @brisco42 no Kenji Mizoguchi no Kurosawa

  • @brisco42 The likes of Ran and Kagemusha are epic in that they are true art masterpieces, but as movies they don't cut it for me. To me, Dersu Uzala and Ikiru work better as films because they are more powerful in captivating an audience. But either way, that's what makes Kurosawa if not the greatest, one of the greatest film makers of all times, his mastery of this art form is unique, so diverse, so beautiful, so wittily done. A legend that will live forever.

  • where cdan i watch the movie it seems quite interesting

  • SUCH A GREAT DIRECTOR!

  • but ame agaru it's not directed by kurosawa he was a co-writer te director is Takashi Koizumi

  • OH,NO! 2:29

Senkichi Taniguchi is the movie director, the senior fellow of Kurosawa in TOHO, never childhood friend.

Kurosawa wrote some works for him.

  • i just watched ame agaru again last night, it's beautiful... to those who haven't seen it yet and who love kurosawa, you should definitely check it out

  • Dersu Uzala is one of the best movies Kurosawa made, a real masterpiece!

  • these are the kurosawa movies i saw , Yojimbo , Ran , Sanjuro , a few others i cant recall at the moment , but Ran was my favorite cus of the battle scenes very epic.

  • great stuff..

  • Kazuko looks very like her father.

  • It is a scene where Kurosawa thought of John Ford like my father to think that I am wonderful in this documentary.

Kurosawa might have succeeded John Ford's important one.

    The movie is wonderful.

The nation and the race transcend, and it is possible to become father and his

    child.

  • I love this documentary!
