dumb question but do ferrets need to be in cages all the time? Or are the cages only used at night? I always thought they just roamed around the house like cats.
@Reviewcam1961 They sleep 16-18hours a day on average, so mine is generally only let out for play time, and he puts himself back in his cage because he prefers to sleep in his hammocks.
Basically, they can get into a lot of trouble unsupervised, unless everything is 100% ferret proofed. I don't let him roam without me nearby incase my grandma let him out the house by accident etc. He tries to "make friends" with the cars on our walks, so I know he'd be dead within minutes should he get out.
@Reviewcam1961 My ferret Snow sleeps in the cage at night and most of the time when I am not home. When I am home I let her out in my room and she loves to sleep in this carpet ferret thing I have that has the levels and holes for her to get in. I will have her out in my room and leave sometimes. I only let her out in the rest of the house supervised because it is not ferret proofed (there are large plants she will dig in and is the fire place blocked off because she will get in the ashes).
Ferret Nation is much better if you can get it second hand it's not that much more expensive. I got mine used, and it was $200.
