  • i was born the day they performed this :P

  • EXCELLENT!!! These 4 have definitely got to get back together for an American tour before it's too late!

  • sent chills up me spine when Mickey started singing Porpoise song!

  • Put this four guys together and it's magic. When you think of it, they were the original American Idol winners, going through the auditions and the eliminations while trying out for the series.

  • i never got to see Mike in concert with them. I been to most of them without mike.

  • genius....mixing the beautiful "Porpoise Song" into the middle of the great "Listen To The Band"

  • Was this part of their reunion tour? I saw a show of that tour back in like 1996 when I was 11 years old. I'd say that's what got me into the Monkees.

  • Gotta give Mickey credit for being able to sing and play drums at the same time...and doing a good job at both!

  • I am totally obsessed with the monkees!!!!!

  • This is aesome for me. I had tickets to go see them in Sydney and they never came. Or maybe Mikey had a liquid paper acciden and had a hissey fit. I love them all anyway. There will never be another MONKEES.

  • if you can, check out 80s psych band BONGWATER's version of porpoise song, WOW! they really ride it into the trip it set out to be... only thing that carried here was nesmiths vocals on "band" tho he seemed to be dioing a roky ericson...

    pretty poor stuff

  • And another thing.....why didnt Davey Jones back up Mickey on the 'Goodbye' Section? He was struggling on his own was Mickey, and Daveys vocals are a major point in making 'Porpoise' a classic.

  • Totally agree!

  • @djbladdered The key that Mickey was singing "Porpoise Song" in during this concert is much higher than on the original recording released in the late 60's. That's why Mickey has such trouble hitting the high notes, and why Davy couldn't help out at all (totally out of his vocal range.) BTW, agree w/ you about Davy's vocals on the song - "Porpoise" is one of my favorite Monkee songs. I'm a 1st generation Monkee fan and proud to be!

  • Thanks for pointing that out Linda, I'm a drummer so the only key I know about tunes tom heads! Loved 'Porpoise' - and with it, HEAD, movie and soundtrack - for about 25 yrs. Monkees is the craziest people!

  • This is brilliant, but IMHO they threw away Porpoise Song by having it sandwiched into Listen To The Band. Both tracks are The Monkees masterpieces, and are well able to stand alone. Still brilliant footage! Nice one!

  • AHHH! This is amazing! Thanks so much for posting! I have been a Monkees fan for 10 years, and always will be!

    I <3 the Monkees!

  • wish I was there

  • Awesome band all around...Pray a speedy recovery to Peter!!!

  • I saw them in 1997. I was like 13. I had a big florescent sign that said "LISA LOVES PETER" . When I got home I put it in my bedroom window with pride. My mom made me take it down because our neighbor complained. At the time I didn't get it.

  • Thats hilarious! Haha. I was in love with the Monkees when I was 10. All my friends were into the backstreet boys and no one got my obsession with the Monkees. I saw Davy Jones perform when I was 12, it was great but I hate seeing them old. :)

  • Best song by the best Monkee!!!

  • i saw them in pittsburgh in 1986 mike wasnt there but they were terrific.

  • @savammy I was at that concert too. It was fantastic.

  • Rest in peace? I'm pretty sure Peter Tork is still around

  • Your post scared the bejeezus outta me... He IS still alive.

But I think Dolenz is amazing here--singing while playing drums.. Not an easy task for someone who didn't start off as a drummer.

  • As Micky would say in the show...

    Don't DO that!

Dont scare me like that man! lol

  • Wow. This clip is amazing! I wish they'd do that again, I wasn't a fan of theirs until recently. I'm 19 and I love these guys!

  • Michael Nesmith redefined country. He NEVER got credit for it and that's BULL!

  • The Porpoise Song and As We Go Along, both from HEAD are such great songs. I'm amazed Mickey can sing Porpoise Song as it's a really high tune. Nice segue from Listen to The Band to that. cool.

  • The Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame lost all creditability when they inducted madonna.

  • it is really kool to see and hear Mike sing and play listen to the band with the other member of the Monkees

  • Three words induct, induct, induct, now. This clip almost made me cry,the performace here was even more superb to Micky,Davy and Peter's reunion tour.I saw these guys 4x live thru 86-87 I loved the shows but I think they've outdone themselves here.Really good performances in these posts.I really wish I could have seen them in 97.One of they're finest performances.5 stars,thank-you for sharing this with us.

  • COOL

  • Listen to the band is by far my favorite Monkee's song! Mike was a genius to write it!! The Hall of Fame is so blind to to include them!!

  • I agree - the rock and roll hall of fame is sadly lacking without The Monkees. I didnt know that there was any footage of this tour, and im glad i found it, as i know i probably wont get a chance to see them now.

  • I cought three shows bt the Monkees in 86-87.I really wish I could've saw them in 97 especially watching these videos.I have a feeling I missed any future oppurtunities to see them again.

  • Anyone who thinks the Monkees shouldn't be in the Rock Hall of Fame should see this clip.....and that means you, Mr. Wenner.

  • Your Absolutely Right/In 1967 The Monkees Out-Sold The Beatles and The Rolling Stones Combined Sales,No other Band in music History can make that Claim/If They Don't Make it in the R&R Hall of Fame Then Nobody Should...

  • FUCK WENNER, Rolling Stone my ass

The Monkees are rock and roll

tells you how credible the Hall of Fame is when they keep the Monkees out and put in some of the jokers they do

  • @REDHAIREDMONSTER R&RHOF lost all cred when they let madonna in. enough said.

  • I love how they mixed this! and I would never have put the two together! Absolutely amazing!

  • so sweet- wish I had been over there to witness in person

  • They play "Listen to the Band" at Fenway Park sometimes. Obscure, but great.

  • still good after all these years

  • Oh What A Night. :)

  • I love Micky and his voice in this song!

  • Awesome. I love how they take the psychedelic fade into 'Porpoise.'

  • Porpoise Song is a bit Yes-like. This is great footage showing the band actually playing! And Mike was always a fantastic singer!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Thank you for posting this. I remember my sister loved these guys and we used to watch the t.v. show.

  • They could always play. They just weren't allowed to formally admit it due to their contract with Screen Gems. They used the same LA session musicians as the Beach Boys, the Byrds and the Turtles. They just got flak for it. Zappa was right. They were better than the SF bands.

  • and 'they couldn't play' ?

    BOLLOCKS !

    just watch this.

  • you rock, davyo - thank you SO much for posting my favorite guys so much!!!!

  • "Hey, hey, Mercy Woman!"

This is FANTASTIC; thank you so much...!

  • listen to the band! is my fav song

  • Nice rare bit. Good to see Nesmith there. Thanks.

  • outstanding!

  • That camera guy did a GREAT JOB !!!

Having to stand there and hold a camera to his face.

    Great Soud too!!
