  • WHAT IS THIS SONG AT THE BEGINNING

  • The snarky dialogue exchange here always slays me....too funny!

  • 1:10 The only time a creepy stare leads to sex

  • This video is criminally short. I could watch these three guys talk about Clockwork Orange for another another hour.

  • @BoondocksOfBoston i think there is a part 2 on the side thumbnail, not sure tho need to finish watching this before i click and see,but bed ways is right ways now so best i go home ways and get a bit of spatchka right right......

  • anthony burgess RIP

  • Lil Alex tutors at Hogwarts.

  • I love to see Malcolm Mcdowell just talking

  • Was that Parky's younger brother?

  • I like anthony burgess' comb-over,you just don't see them anymore,shame.

  • Clockwork Orange I think is almost prophetic of Britain in the 2000's, there really are neds like Alex in existence, violently beating people up for no reason and stealing, Britain in 1971 was nothing like this film, Britain in 2011 is a lot like this film!

  • @themanmaschine Really? Hm :/ we've always been like this in the states... Minus the style, unfortunately...

  • Id vote for him viva Europe lol

  • Good Bog Malcolm is so ridiculously adorable. Such a cutie.

  • Notice how Malcolm is smoking o.O such a long time ago.. He was soo hot with lang hair <3

  • malcolm is very sexy in a way that men just aren't any more...

  • I love the record store clip so much because I'd be semi-imagining like that too. Well, not Beethoven-esque, but still. This, and the apartment scene makes Alex more relatable for me because his love of music makes him more human and relatable.

  • @luvATL4ever oops I said relatable twice :(

  • Anyone who manages to get laid saying what he said deserves to be made emperor of the world!

  • 3:57-4:06

It looks like Malcolm scratched his leg with his finger then sniffed it...

  • the 2001:a space odyssey soundtrack vinyl at 1:01

  • @zeightygeisty Haha I noticed that too

  • I hate to say it, but the MUSIC is the biggest and really the only thing that dates the film as being really old. There'

s other things like the car they steal abd the rear projection, but that can be forgiven more than the soundtrack in terms of sounding old as heck.

I LOVE the soundtrack though and listen to it often. ^_^

  • that actor goes through a lot in that movie, e.g., nudity, the drowning scene, the eyelid holders. . .

  • wait... i though Burgess hated the movie?!

  • @skitch88 you may be thinking of the shining, stephen king hated that movie

  • @NormanBatesRocks911 He isn't the only one.

  • Abrupt ending ftw?

  • Wow, this was made before Walter ( Wendy ) Carlos had his sex change, and went on to make the awesome original Tron soundtrack.

  • I really get a kick out of this version of ode to joy.

  • this film is an absolute masterpiece my favorite film ever so ahead of its time.

  • Malcolm is gorgeous. Such a big crush on him!! (EXCITEMENT SQUEAK!) I wouldn't mind getting him off Santa Claus! I can just picture it now "dear Santa...Please leave Malcolm McDowell from 70s under the tree for me!....Thank You"

Wake up Christmas!!!! OMG!!! Your Mine!! All mine!!! (Big Sigh!) If only it was that easy....ha ha

  • He is gorgeous, even now.

    Plus, the movie is great.

  • Whats the song in the very beginning of clock work orange ????

  • @purepoet Title Music from A Clockwork Orange

  • @REBMike1 Thanks droog .....

  • Anybody else hear Heaven 17 this is why they're named that

  • 5:55 most awesome 70s hair EVER

  • This might just be the most annoying interviewer I've ever seen - or rather, heard. They were no doubt sitting there thinking: "Will you ever shut your mouth?"

  • That strong man was David Prowse aka Darth Vader!

  • a sequel would have been interesting

  • @switcherxx How Alex died it would suck without Alex and NOBODY alive can remake a Kubrick film

  • Comment removed

  • @sssgv Alex didn't die... he jumped out of the building but didn't die... he ended up in hospital, where he was reprogramed back to his old behaviour (or possibly something more devious...)

  • @switcherxx he did die at the hospital and he sarcastically said "I was cured alright" when he died

  • @sssgv I have the movie, seen it many many times... I'll try get the last few minutes on YOU TUBE for you

  • @sssgv it's in French, but the last scene can be found n You Tube if you search for watch?v=yW5zQaMuWjc&feature=related The last scene is him in the hospital imagining himself 'doing it' with a woman in the snow while others watch.

  • @sssgv maybe when he said he was cured, he meant he was back the way he was before... here's someone reading the end of the book... doesn't sound like he's dead in the hospital there... I never heard ANYONE say he died at the end. youtube.com/watch?v=zMm8UhWvQLA

  • @switcherxx I am shocked anyone thought he died I seen the movie loads of times and that inspired me to read the book it was so obvious that the knock to his head made him go back to the way he was before, also as you probabley know at the end of the book he leaves hospital and bumps into his old droogie Pete and then all on his own he decides to change in the book he has a new set of droogies

  • @switcherxx Look at his eyes

  • @craigski75 On the contrary... Malcolm joked about being remembered as the person who killed Captain Kirk in the Star Trek "Generations" movie. He's done many interesting roles... check out his movie "If..."

  • The movie that SHOCKED MILLIONS.

  • oh my god, he was so gorgeous

  • bit cold and pointless isn't it my lovely

  • god hes so cute, get hair like this, not like justin gaybur, guys!

  • @lpycb42:

    McDowell is the Riddler!! ;)

  • I want that outfit

  • @craigski75 I think McDowell is remembered just as much for the movie 'If....', as he was picked for the part of Alex in Clockwork Orange without even having to audition, all because his performance in that movie. If.... is also considered one of the best British films of all time, and if you haven't seen it, I recommend putting in the effort of finding a copy and watching it, as it's a brilliant film.

  • questo film è uno spettacolo!

  • i wish i could pick up girls like the way he did. (in a music store) but it seems a little impossible. just sayin

  • @hockeyplaya195 Anyone worth picking up is impossible at least.

  • He would have made a perfect JOKER.

  • @BaronM Definitely, or the perfect Riddler too.

  • @BaronM Great idea!

Poor Malcolm McDowell; he's remember for "If..." "A Clockwork Orange" and "O Lucky Man!" (and maybe "Caligula"); his range is actually much greater but he was type-cast.

  • MOST AWKWARD AND ABRUPT ENDING EVER! GREAT INTERVIEW

  • @TheGatorfan93 Apart from what drucey pointed out, AIDS didn't exist at the time of the novel's publication. The first incidents of the disease weren't seen until the 80s. That said, though it is impossible that AIDS was Burgess' implication in saying that F. Alexander's wife was a victim of the modern age, it certainly is an interesting take on the line.

  • "The answer is on the screen." Brilliant. Loved McDowell's description of how he "became" Alex... Thanks for posting this!

  • Does that record store remind anyone of the "Gold Saucer"?

  • @Jkfilms7 AH! That's exactly what it reminds me of. Couldn't quite place it.

  • When the writer says ''his wife died of an illness, victim of the modern age'',i thought of something interesting .When i first watched this movie in early 91,at 15, aids was on everyones minds. And i thought maybe, with the writer's wife being raped by the four droogs, pete being the last in the ranks.''Hey,could pete have given her aids, since we don't see him again!?'' lol

  • @TheGatorfan93 In the novel Pete appears in the last chapter. The final chapter was left out of the film.

  • @TheGatorfan93 I think it was because Stanley didnt like Burgess last chapter so he cut the Pete bit out, also in the book when Alex is in prison Georgie is killed by a man he Dim and Pete rob so when Alex is beaten up in the book it was Dim and Alex's rival Billy boy, I only read the book because I loved the film so much and it would have been good if Pete was in the final chapter and Alex changed on his own

  • Kubrick and Burgess predicted the 1981 electro-pop explosion, but it was very peaceful unlike here. The music, was more imaginative too, but predicting the future of human foibles is near impossible, isn't it?

  • Malcolm is so cute :) I love his hair in that clip :P He's such a kickass actor! Alex DeLarge is the coolest (and sexiest) villain ever!

  • @FromQC94 Alex DeLarge is always in my heart why can't men be more like that? charming, sophisticated, and gentle while flirting?

  • @FromQC94 He's more of an anti-hero than a villian.

  • @GuillerMak37

An anti-hero is somebody who actually does something good, in a different way maybe, but in the end his purposes are "good" and that's all that matters to him.

Alex actually never changes his mind even at the end. He likes to do bad things, he wants to do bad things, he dreams about doing bad things. Btw, the movie also criticizes the way the Gov. is acting, since they decide to use a sorta mindcontrol therapy on him, so it could mislead on that matter. But he is defo a villain.

  • Personally I think both the book and movie are great, choosing between the two would prove futile and only be a reflection of one's personal prefernce. The movie's only real flaw, would probably be that the final chapter was cut out and the movie digresses from the notion that Alex can grow out of childish violence and bare intution. Then again, the ending fit the movie just fine but I'm sure Kubrick would have figured out a way to amaze the world one way or another.

  • @Elvis457 The flaw cannot be put on Kubrick's shoulders because the version he worked with the final chapter was cut by the American publishers. Kubrick didn't even realize that there was another chapter untill after the movie was made.

  • @Elvis457

Actually the final chapter where alex renouces his life of crime and gets married only appeared in th first editions of the novel on the insistance of the publishing companies. all reissues of the novel ended like in the movie with alex simply being deprogrammed and free to follow his life of crime. Therefore the movie is virtually identical with the book.

  • @TVFREAKMAN Hi I read the book but did it end with Alex saying how he would like what Pete had e.g marrige or did he actually get married in my version after the hospital he is in the milk bar once again with 3 new droogs and he gets really bored of beating people up so he walks off on his own buys some milky chi and then bumps into Pete is this the ending you read?

  • @isolationproblem

Yes, that sounds like the ending of the book when I first read it. What I remember most is that the last chapter began just like the first with Alex saying: "What's it going to be then eh?" making the story come full circle.

  • They make me proud to be english

  • @YeaOrNot Kubrick is American. Born in NYC.

  • Kubrick is American. Born in NYC.

  • The movie IS better than the book, I think. McDowell...jeez, where do I begin!

  • Comment removed

  • You can tell from this interview that Anthony Burgess was a writer that had a true understanding and appreciation for the cinematic language of film. It's so rare that an author praises a film adaptation of their work, let alone admits that it betters their original work in certain aspects.

  • @TheAltair4

I agree the novel is brilliant and so is the movie, Mcdowell rocks.

  • @TheAltair4 I guess so, he thought his book was mediocre at best. He was appalled at Kubrick for cutting a vital part of the book in the final release.

  • can i just take him off stage and fuck him hehe

  • god this interviewer is soooo much better! a lot of wot hes sayin is wot i said...he gets it

  • Thanks for posting this interview!

  • wow interesting to see the he/she carlos at work

  • That strong man that Malcom McDowell mentions later on played Darth Vader in Star Wars. :)
