I think Glen Beck is wrong. He is NOT playing word games. If the federal government acts in a way that makes the constitution worthless, than it is a lesser offence for a state to make a logical conclusion that they are no longer bound by the constitution either. Such an action is not unreasonable or underhanded as Glen Beck suggests.
This reasoning makes no sense. If the fed. gov. acts unconsitituional, the courts strike this behaviour down. High school gov. class first day. Don't states send members to the federal gov't to make laws? I'll bet your state has 2 senators and at least 1 house member to make laws. Some states did leave the union once.... it was called the civil war. Beck is just leading a pack of wackos.

I'm confused. The second amendment has the right to bear arms under the context of a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State. It doesn't protect the right to own an assault weapon. In all honesty, where do you draw the line? Do you think people should be able to say, build their own tomahawk missile? Or possibly a nuclear device? People in this country have the means and the brainpower (and some, the desire) for both, so does the second amendment allow for this?

What I described is a Democracy because it is rule of, by, and for the people. A Republic tries to control the people like the Peoples Republic of North Korea.
Try looking at the Vietnam War demonstrations and the impeachment of Nixon.
Massive demonstrations.
If that doesn't do the job then civil war. The founding fathers described how to go about overthrowing a tryanny.

You can believe what you want, but its a fact, we are a constitutional republic although we have been conditioned to accept majority rules. This is why they keep telling us what the polls say etc.. The majority can never take away the rights of the minority in a properly working republic. So like you say, If the people vote to ban Negroes, foreigners and all minorities from owning guns, that would and should be unconstitutional. You see, a pure democracy is when 51% oppress 49%.

Whatever one calls it the U.S. is ruled by the majority voting of the people. The majority controls the minority. The majority determines who, if any has rights, and what if any rights they have.
Calif Prop 8 is a perfect example along with Prohibition. The majority voted, no same sex marriage.
The problem with the U.S. that democracy has be subverted and a MINORITY is running the show. That's the problem.

You are still wrong. The US is a REPUBLIC. That is what it is called. A Republic. Not a democracy.
The US is ruled by a government consisting of an Executive Branch, a Judicial Branch, and a bicameral Legislative branch, the totality of them limited in their powers by the Constitution, granting any powers not enumerated in that document to The States, or to The People.
You should read the constitution some time before showing the world how little you know.

You state only a few make the laws. The U.S. does not work that way. Laws are made "...of, by and for the people."
When only a few select make the laws then it's time for civil war. And that time is now because that is why the U.S. has deterioriated to it's sad state. The politicians & judicial system became corrupt and made laws "against" the will of the people.
Congress will do what the people tell them to do, else civil war.

The courts merely interpret the constitution .... They can only decide what is constitutional for those who are subjects of the US.. (US Citizens) .. Note the "US" is a non-descriptive word, and identifies the Federal Territory located in DC at Article 1, Section 8, Cl. 17.

Alright, I have read almost every comment left on these videos and I have seen a lot of people quoting the constitution and the Federalist Papers, and I have seen a lot of other people quoting The Supreme Court. So far, it seems like much ado about nothing. Simply put the Bill of Rights is a series of guarantees to the states that their sovereignty and the rights of their citizens. It's time the Federal Government remembered that.

The Tenth Amendment states that *powers* not delegated to the Federal government, by the Constitution, are *retained* by the States.
It has nothing to do with laws, as laws are merely the means of implementing the legitimate powers delegated by the Constitution.

???? The Constitution is the basis of our laws. That's what the whole court system is all about. The tenth amendment is part of the Constitution, so if it is nonapplicable, don't the parts of it (such as the tenth amendment) become nonapplicable? Or is only the parts of the Constitution that you like applicable?

I'm not sure I get your point. The Constitution, as a delegation of limited powers from the States, is the basis of the authority of the US federal government. The 10th Amendment is applicable. But you do not seem to understand what the 10th Amendment says.

You mean history like states have their own rights? From what I have read from Madison and Jefferson they were for states rights.
The Second Amendment always applied to the citizens, and the states are saying you cannot take that right away.
So I am not sure what "history' you are talking about.
Btw, Beck is not "right wing" he is a Libertarian, individual rights, individual responsibility. Not sure how that is considered a "right wing" view. How dare we listen to the constitution!

That's correct, Madison and Jefferson were more in favor of state's rights and other founding fathers were more in favor of federal rights. A compromise was worked out where states made laws that weren't covered by the federal gov't. The 10th amendment is all over this.
BTW, Beck is a nut case, a demagogue who leads people using their worst fears agianst themselves. Really doesn't have a political category.

I think Glen Beck is wrong. He is NOT playing word games. If the federal government acts in a way that makes the constitution worthless, than it is a lesser offence for a state to make a logical conclusion that they are no longer bound by the constitution either. Such an action is not unreasonable or underhanded as Glen Beck suggests.

I'm confused. The second amendment has the right to bear arms under the context of a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State. It doesn't protect the right to own an assault weapon. In all honesty, where do you draw the line? Do you think people should be able to say, build their own tomahawk missile? Or possibly a nuclear device? People in this country have the means and the brainpower (and some, the desire) for both, so does the second amendment allow for this?

Really? Over 200 years of Americans to legelly own firearms including assault weapons. Also has been affirmed by the Supreme Court many times.
Let's suppose a few people breaks into your house. You have a pistol and two or three have pistols also. You have one magazine. You and your family might survive, but more than likely does not.
An M4 with an M68 site and two 30 rnd detachable magazines are equalizers.
