Education on a high school level is more about keeping cozy jobs than educating. I live in NJ where most high schools seem to be run by Italians with Jewish support in key positions. Italians have a 25% dropout rate, highest among all whites but they run most schools. They can't educate their own children but they're experts in educating other children? They fire good non-Italian teachers and keep dumb non Italian assuring their control. As education became corrupted it went down. Makes sense.

Italy has the most turned over government in Europe. A failed nation which can't even collect their taxes because most citizens hide their money from the government. They work in family units protecting their own job turf. Most inefficient nation in Europe. Into image not productivity. Exporting those traits into NY. 1. Produce lectures for all courses broken out in sections, for grades 9-12 and 4 year college.

2. Infrastructure to deliver lectures to all students via internet. Tax credit or deposit for computers that connect only to education site.

3. Extensive variable online tests per section.

4. Testing Centers(current shool facilities) for labs and rigorous final exam to pass. Retest until pass. Course Grades are three components(highest exam score/composite exam score/online exam score)

Thats essentially 100% availability and delivered at well below 1/15 the cost, or much less, of the current education structure. Why pay to have tens of thousands of teachers teaching the same thing each year when you can do it once? We all know those motivated to learn actually learn and those that don't wont, no matter how much money and resources you throw at them. Pregnant or teen mothers can get their education. The "underpriviledged" can get the education on their time. Win Win Win.

The current economic situation clearly demonstrates the need for a major overhaul of our educational system. While math, science, history, etc. are vital, our children are not being taught how to function successfully in the modern world. We need programs that teach children about credit cards, mortgages, car loans, the importance of credit, managing a checking/savings account, healthcare benefits, stocks, etc. In addition, they should be shown the consequences of poor decisions; prison life,

A lot of rhetoric and far fledged ideas with little substance. To achieve the kind of educational reform takes money. Money taxpayers and our leaders are historically unwilling to commit to. The greatest threat to the US as Newt mentioned is NOT a WMD going off in an American city. The greatest threat is continuing to isolate ourselves from the rest of the world with might-makes-right attitudes. Our system needs to improve, no doubt...but the quagmire depicted here is exaggerated.
