Rainbow was my first concert, "Long Live Rock and Roll" tour. They were actually the warm-up band for Cheap Trick, who though also outstanding walked off stage when a "fan" blew off an m80, one upping lots of other rowdiness in the lower deck at the Chicago Amphitheater. But the real fireworks started during Rainbow. They did Stargazer almost like this to a T, culminating in Blackmore's destroying of his guitar. Blew me away, I was a Rainbow fan immediately. No party of mine went Rainbow-less.
seen richie blackmore with pat travers in cleveland music theatre in the 70s early 80s he did not come out for oncour'' in cleveland what are you stupid , he got booed and pat travers came out with snorting whiskey drinking cocaine and smoked it he did 4 oncours noke cleve.
why stop half way through, the camera man needs finding,,if only we had mobile fones then, this is the only filmed version and its cut short.he looks so tiny till that voice stuns you into silence.
Rising is my favourite rock album of the 70's (along with Captain Beyond's first one).
Man, Dio has just made every single band he worked with even better. Black Sabbath, for example, was already awesome with Ozzy, but when Dio came... it became freakin' godlike.
@MrTennis234 maybe that it's the sound quality that they don't like... i mean...i can be their advocate if the reason of their vote down is the sound quality of the video...otherwise if they don't like the music...so i can do nothing for them... they diserve to be pushed in the heart of the enraged volcano... some sacrifices for our gods are sometimes essential for a good harvest
A great singer from New York State ! Playing since the late 50s. He did start the Italian "evil eye" horns as a kind of anti OZZY peace sign during the HH or Mob Rules tour can't remember if he did it during H & H definitely did it on the Mob Rules tour !

This song is un-fucking-believable (too bad you only got half of it). I know Sabbath came first, but as far as I am concerned Stargazer established what it means to be metal. It is mythic and powerful; it takes hold of your conscience and transports it.
Rest in peace Dio. Like so many he was my main hero when i was a teen and in my early twenties. Still love all his music. I think this clip is interesting where he comments about losing the appellation "Ritchie Blackmore's" in the name. In truth, it was always Blackmore's Rainbow. That's why Dio and countless others left the band. In the end it was just a vehicle for Ritchies ego.
Your music was very much a part of my teens and twenties. I still have so many dear memories closely tied up with your music and the way it privided part of the back drop for such an important stage in my life. A true rock god.
You were and always will be a true rock god. Your music contributed in no small way to my teen and twenties years. It' is so very sad to hear of your passing.
State of the Art, Magnum Opus, Masterpiece, Chef-d'oeuvre, I subscribe to all these epithets and more, but even these do not describe in full what a great song "Stargazer" is and it is rueful that it does not get the credit it deserves, especially in the US, where I do not hear it played enough on the mainstream airwaves. When I heard it first on the vynil record back home in Tajikistan, my parents had to put up with listening to the same tune for over a month. Heavy Metal song of all time!!!
Id sell my soul for water? Dio is the king of dark lyrics! This was long before it was trendy or profitable! When Heaven and Hell came out my Uncle told me he saw Dio perform in like 1962! He couldnt remember the name of the band as it never made it big. I replied your crazy! Hes not that old! He said and Ill never forget this, Hes older than the fucking Beatles. I think he was right! Ronnie James Dio is my favorite HM vocalist of all time. That being said he is also one of the biggest hyprocrites around. Listen to how he says the band should just be Rainbow because everyone contrubutes not just Richie. Yet di he name his band anything else besides Dio? Hyprocrite!

I think he's close to 70 and he still sounds great! Not many singers sound good after 35 let alone 60.

Ronnie James Dio is my favorite HM vocalist of all time. That being said he is also one of the biggest hyprocrites around. Listen to how he says the band should just be Rainbow because everyone contrubutes not just Richie. Yet di he name his band anything else besides Dio? Hyprocrite!

Well, Dio is agood name for a group. :o) After all, he didn't call his group Ronnie James Dio's Rainbow.
Anyways, I still think that Stargazer is the first real heavy metal song ever made.

Man On The Silver Mountain was the first....Most heavy metal songs after were written in a similar format...The days of Piano were suddenly over..
But then again, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin may have something to say about our comments
