I find it so ironic and awesome that a gay man (the almighty Rob Halford) sounds more masculine than ANY of these so called screamo bands do. God, what I would do for a return of REAL hard music.
@cpociucytcrewc I'm going to have to agree with you. british steel was released in 1980, so by then judas priest, black sabbath, iron maiden, and many others had already put out other material. by 1980 metal was sure as hell born.
@Dethtothenations You are party right, but I think what tednugentlives meant was that this was the album that brought metal out of the blues-based hard rock style of the 70s, and into a modernised, rawer and more distorted sound; heavy metal. In that respect, British Steel gave birth to the genre.
@winter1235 but all this time judas priest had already done that. sin after sin was pure metal, agressive, not bluesy at all, and in my opinion leagues better than british steel. and released in 1978. Slayer even covered dissident agressor.
And by 1980 saxon had already released heavy albums before this, and they weren't really blues influenced.
@Dethtothenations - in 1978 Dissident Aggressor was the heaviest thing put to vinyl, purely groundbreaking with the most insane opening vocal line of all time
@mike1cfo Good comment mate and you wont find a bigger Priest fan than me but watch the Sabbath live Paris `70 gig on YouTube and tell me that isn`t super heavy and that was only after 2 albums !! Dissident Aggressor is something else though ! Peace Ye`All !!

@bassmaster3474 Black Sabbath is the original heavy metal band. If you can't acknowledge that, you have no business listening to metal.

I love this song because it starts off with a light, almost reggae riff and then it just CRUSHES THE SHIT RIGHT ON OUT OF YOU!
That's what today's "metal" lacks: boldness.
