i am quite shocked about the content of this clip, is it really as bad for the artists as told in this clip?

Yes, most people are clueless about this, as they are about the rise of digital media distribution and the models that are being used to implement it. On top of this people are now paying more for less via the likes of Apple (compressed audio is inferior).

Also, selling individual tracks has destroyed the opportunity for some artists to present works in the listening context of an entire "album" (and I don't mean a collection of tracks that includes three "hits" and a bunch of fillers).
