@gregvance One thing I've heard is Muslims give more respect to men with beards. Men without beards are sometimes looked at as young and immature. These guys would be on the front lines dealing with locals so it also helps blend in if need be.

Wearing baseball caps in the A-camp is not an issue but when an a-hole puts it on youtube it becomes a potential stumbling block from higher. If the mission was important and I knew the Conventionals were not keen on SF due to the grooming issue I put on my uniform shaved my face and approached those that could harm the mission as a soldier first.

Soak it up while you can, because once the moment that changes your life happens, and you get out, only then will you see how bad it really was. It is a great cause that you are serving. But after about 3 months after the invasion in 2003, I felt a lot more exposed. Once the fucking politics got into the war, I was extremely cautious of everything.

I am an elite skier. I am an irregular in the Rangers category. I know Rangers as friends. I have scheduled my own training over the years. At times my regiment of training is more intense than the standard Ranger. My friends in the service respect that.

On SF. There is some skills in use in 18sec that cannot be taught. The Army tries to regiment certain skills but the people they get are gifted already. Real dedicated people in SF. I wish they would get back to their old spirit.
