Apparently the in game reason is that Tails made Sonic the car so that the other racers would have a chance because of the whole running faster than the speed of sound thing. It's supposed to be 100% fair, everyone knows if Sonic wanted to he'd run circles around everyone, XD. Also the real reason is that they tried to have Sonic without a car in a prototype build, but it didn't work out as well as they would have liked for some reason.

There is no reason why this game should not be good. They are obviously "borrowing" the mario kart formula, but they can take that game and try to improve upon it. Here each character has their own moves, they are trying to make a better multiplayer system and the rest of the game can have similar feel but different level design. I just hope that the controls are well made. I think its okay for all the characters to be in cars except for sonic, the should have Sonic running.

The thing is I don't know how anyone could put up with that werewolf fuck fest.
I grew up with the megadrive in the 90's I was a huge megadrive fan, but how the fuck did sega manage to put a Household name, one of the greatest rivals of mario at deaths door now It boggles my mind how sega hasn't realised their recent games are whats killing sonic and giving minors in their preteens some of the worst quality games ever and making them believe that sonic is a decent game.

but i think sonic will do a kick ass comeback soon, maybe 1-3 more games, but this looks promising, i really enjoyd Sonic drift so i will check this out for sure ^^

i hate sega for what it's done to sonic, do YOU think this is a good game? if so, then good for you, but you must be a die hard fan to put up with this. I however want a little thought and effort put into my games, and for sonic NOT to be kept away from what he was made to do, and that is running at mind numbing speed toward the right side of the screen. no princesses to save, no random supporting cast members, and for the love of gaia no gimics.

THIS IS A GOOD GAME you like it or not man. End of story. So if you want that type of game, play Sonic 1,2,3,CD,knuckles... BUT everyone who is a true gamer wants Sonic to have ofcourse its originality but also a nice story and depth. And that happened with Sonic Unleashed wich is a positive step to achive the glory we all witnessed on Sonic Adventure 1 and 2! So don't talk rubbish! Why in the world Mario kart is such a great game for many? because its FUN. This game will give that FUNx10!!

I LIKED the sonic adventure games, I just didn't see them as true blue sonic games.
I admit that a good game needs good story behind it, but I can name a few games that didn't have any story at all and they were still awsome.
And yes, sonic unleashed was a step in the right direction, but it wasn't a big enough step in the right direction. it seems that everytime sega tries to get sonic back to his glory days, they throw in some horrible gimic that screws the whole thing up!
