@CrazyIrishDrunk1 but the whole reason the troubles was fought cos both sides couldn't settle on an agreement and so Good Friday agreement was made. So I'm not bashing your opinion but the GFA was made to make peace in ni so I don't think it'll be happening any time soon. As for me, I like NI being with the UK for the fact that we would all be screwed right now if we had the euro. Also Ireland is extremely poor & can't afford us so politically and economically its better that ni is with the uk.

The Republic came into being with the "Republic of Ireland Act 1948" however, the monarchist government was de facto already gone at that point when, during the abdication crisis of 1936, De Valera refused to acknowledge George VI and therefore effectively ended crown rule in Ireland. This year see the beginning of a "decade of centenaries" beginning with the Titanic, (WW1, Rising, WoI) through to the end of the Civil War.
