My '94 shakes like that but runs smoothly through acceleration, and at speed it's fine too. I removed the left front motor mount and found it very deteriorated. Apparently the mount is not available so I did the urethane repair trick and it worked well for about two years...almost eliminating all vibration. I'd bet that mount is causing your vibration problems too.
Hey rmcelwee, I just changed timing belt on my 96 1.0L. The car has lots of power and runs fine. But I too have engine vibration, I'm going to get a timing light to see where the engines is at. I know it should be around 8 degrees before TDC. Was is the timing off one tooth that caused your engine vibration ? Please help another metronian out, go Geo Metro Forum !!!! Thank you !!!!!
@rmcelwee Thank you RM for that very quick reply back on my question. I took a look at your LS miata, and she's a beauty. She must be a real neck snapper, I know you'll have a lot of fun with that car. Anyhow thank you again sir, your help is greatly appreciated. Friends Q ^___^
@rmcelwee you said you checked the mounts. and they looked good. did you check to see hte mounting bolts were tightened to spec? could be a misfire. not sure on that. other than vibes how did it drive?
@yamahonkawazuki The mounting bolts were fine. The car felt sluggish but that could have been from the extreme gear ratios that I was running (replaced the 4.39 vert tranny with one from an XFI) to get the car up to 50 MPG.
if it is an auto trans it could be the torque converter. if it is an auto, jack car up and unbolt tne torque converter from the flexplate. seperate the two with a small pry bar and support tranny with a jack so it is level and then restart the engine and see if the vibration is gone. if it is then you need a new torque converter.

@qs711
I checked the teeth and they were ok (not a tooth off). I've sold the car so I can't check anything else out on it.

Time for some good old seafoam, used it on my geo improved it ever so much.

@betterthanstock
No need for seafoam. The engine was rebuilt. Not a spec of dirt anywhere to be found in there.

0:08 Is that your engine mount shacking?
maximeguichard 2 years ago
Yes, it is shaking because the engine is shaking it. I took the mounts out and they appear to be in 100% condition.
