in response to Pchematos comment genesis were a clever band musically who could write every song with complexity and brillance.I know and i like led zep and mike oldfield who are musically brilliant and untouchable also
Even acknowledging that this kind of music was 90% mere technical exhibition and often lacked any meaning (a lot of this stuff is pretty garbage) it's outstanding to see how many people actually used to buy these records and fill these gigs. Musical taste was much better those days...
I am just Rubbing my Head at how they did it.. This Song is in 7/16 & is one of the Hardest Time Signatures known to Music.. If not THEE hardest! And they play it as though it were the jaws theme or something! HOW did they do it? I'm a Musician myself & after Ditching You tube for Soundcloud I Started to Experiment with Innovative Sounds & Vast Contrasts. And you know what? I Thought I was doing well until I heard this song! lol! It's just got everything going for it. Utter madness. Perfect.
@therealKINDLE This is the result of closing ones eyes, and using the imagination inside...put your thoughts to your instrument. Time signatures are only a form of measurement. Don't be bound by trying to fit your imagination into(simpler) patterns...... If you play guitar, watch your fingerboard hand as little as possible.Peace.
@therealKINDLE Don't forget Tony Banks is a Clasically trained pianist. Phil is such a fluid drumer it beggars belief, and Mike Rutherford is no exactly bed either, nor is Steve [Hackett] etc.
When Pete says "I will make my bed, with her tonight! He cried!" he sounds as if he owns the audience. His voice just booms through the audience with power and confidence. Btw, what costume is he wearing?
This is truly the greatest music ever mad. No other group was better live in the 1970's or possibly ever. One of Tony Banks finest keyboard solos ever. Phil Collins drumming in time sequence is unheard of along With Mike Rutherford's Bass lines and Steve Hackett's beautiful melodic riff's.Peter's story telling type singing is also fantastic. What a tight and phenomenal group. Thank's again Tommy. Eargasmic. Why is there no live video of Seconds Out Cinema Show from Genesis out there?
the sountrack is Genesis live in Montréal 21-04-1974, I recognize the whistle at the begining of the song, same as my L'Ange Gabriel record. they filmed only tiny bits of the show in 8mm, so they re-run them over the length of the song. the best live record I've heard from Genesis, truely.
Cinema show é uma das composições mais belas do Genesis. Peter Gabriel nos faz viajar como se viaja nas belas imagens de um bom filme. Excelente e inesquecível.
Thank God (and hippies) for the 60's & 70's when music was real and free. If you guys are still out there, peace to all my long haired hippie freaks!! Love you guys!

Dommage que les images ne correspondent pas à l'audio !!!! mais la musique de Genesis restera toujours extraordinaire !!! (son vraiment très saturé, tout de même! ...)
What does the bald headed Gabriel bastard say about this now, probabaly very little, but should we denign its a classic by any means. Ofcourse not. I love Genesis from the early 1970's because they represent everthing that was good about then.
Wonderful! There may never be another band like Genesis with Gabriel but check out Italy's The Watch...you may think you have been taken back to these days..not only do they do Genesis to perfection but their orginal music is superb!!! Sounds just like Genesis but with it's own identity...Steve Hackett plays with them when they go to the UK!!!!
I tried hard to get the guitar part at debute, but not found continuity ! Originally on 12 strings accoustic guitar that was sounding like a harpshichord a bit.
Whenever there is too much going on in my head, and the world get's to be too much, Genesis takes it all away! Any of the early album's will do. They are a wonderful bullshit removal system. Thank's Tommygun for the video, look forward to buying!!
@MWL4466 Imagine yourself standing in the front row listening/seeing this in live. Hackett and Rutherford picking, Gabriel doing his odd stuff, Phil tapping quite professionally his percussions in a musical way, and yes, Banks laying down the chords on Hammond and luring his synth... With just a touch of colour lights this transforms to magic even though you were never able to see this live. Kudos to you all 5.

O.K the Flower KIngs are really good musicians. But this is the recording with the most charismatic singer ever ! Peter G. !
By the way listen to the musical box. These boys are instrumtal better than the original. Especially the Bass Player who also is the musical director !
Genesis at their best before Peter left, then so to loose Steve......they were so damn good the best of all bands. GENESIS was #1!!!! Like a natural high, or meditational, so beautiful......
It seems just like yesterday when I saw this live. How lucky I have been in my life! Gabriel, Hackett, Banks, Banks, Rutherford, Collins - the whole was always greater than the sum of the parts
@PokerPlum Absolutely! But I still like their A Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering. Steve Hackett tried to keep their music together but became increasingly frustrated with the 'new direction' the band tried to go into. On stage playing short and more 'catchy' songs. After he left, that was it. But, they started making money! :))
I saw this tour, on my 16th birthday, in Canada's Capital, in 1973.
Like many others, who have commented, it's always been a part of me.
From Genesis' first appearance on Midnight Special (same show as Steve Miller singing 'Fly Like an Eagle on 12 string) to Gabriel leaving.....aaaahhh good times.
The music remains absolutely wonderful and because of Youtube, I am reminded to pull that old vinyl out, slap it on a Technics, and sit back in aural and organic heaven.
Y'know, when I pick up a Genesis album to listen to it's never anything after Wind and Wuthering. Oh, they have the occasional song on the later ones but nothing to compare to the days before Steve Hackett left. Oh, and he's the only one that will still play complete songs from the old days.
Selling England, The Lamb Lies Down... How fortunate I consider myself to have seen/heard them. True the band was more than the sum of it's parts, but when Gabriel left, the band was Genesis was no more.
To comment on this vid' ? ..... well, the time is 5am in the morning, late in 1976, I'm riding my beloved Fs1-E moped to work 20 miles away ,to try and make it there for 6am, no mp3's or head phones, just the memorized music and lyrics of this great song ringing through my head to pass the time away, sang this and other tracks from the LP to myself to keep me sane!! (personal memories & still love this now.) hehe great stuff/.
Glad you like it (it's one of my favorite songs of all time) but don't give Peter Gabriel credit for the second half instrumental section. He wanted to leave it off SEBTP. Thank goodness he was outvoted on that one.
@LittleNemoTheDreamer "this song is a 10 minute flight in first class seat to peter gabriel's mind and world." it's wonderful what you said! I like very much the lyrics, even if I found some difficult in understanding, because I'm italian...anyway, what a song!
Yep: I agree that Peter Gabriel is a genius, but what we hear here is a complete joint effort from all members. It is awesome how all members completed each other on this classic Genesis 5-members line up. I can only describe it as: they found THE sound - and live they were as close as it gets to perfect. I listen to 70s Genesis for like 35 now - almost every day. I never get tired of it.
@LittleNemoTheDreamer don't want to be a d¡ck or something but Gabriel didn't wrote the lyrics, Banks did, and the music it's all Rutherford, Banks and Collins.
@LittleNemoTheDreamer It should be noted that Tony and Mike were the main songwriters at this point in the group's history, according to multiple sources.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Wheter the fools "dance on the moonlit night" or their tunnel vison selfmade story or their industrial "cinema show"..NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH : Check Procol Harum on that title if you need recovery for useless and blunt ,idiot pain of offiical RAPERS.
NEVER FORGET! NEVER GET BLIND ON HITLERISM OF THE BLOODY REDDISH KIND WHO ONLY NEED THEIR LONELY CASE FIXED!!! NVER!! THE judge will support you there!.if you proved HONEST ONLY! That is! Do never want to get me WRONG on that ! NEVER!
Got all their original albums on the famous charisma label I even have from genesis to revelation on London label all brilliant recordings that stil stand the test of time.
Abso-freakin-lutely, pokerplum! Their two next albums (A Trick and Wind & Wuthering) still had some moments, but they should've call it quits then, in 1976.
awesome....i saw thm w/ PG in Detroit.. SEBTP tour,,,sooo goood.......when he left,,,the whole band over the course of 10 years turned into a top40radio hit machine for the record companies,,,art,,out the window

(personal memories & still love this now.) hehe great stuff/.

this song is a 10 minute flight in first class seat to peter gabriel's mind and world. A true classic in progressive music.

You said it, my friend. Absolutely..

@LittleNemoTheDreamer
Banks wrote the lyrics
negriux22 1 year ago
@LittleNemoTheDreamer don't want to be a d¡ck or something but Gabriel didn't wrote the lyrics, Banks did, and the music it's all Rutherford, Banks and Collins.
negriux22 1 year ago
@negriux22 Collins hardly wrote anything for the band before the late 70's.
ClearJack 1 year ago
@ClearJack ok, so it was Banks and Rutherford who wrote this masterpiece, in fact I've read that Gabriel didn't like the second half
negriux22 1 year ago
@LittleNemoTheDreamer It should be noted that Tony and Mike were the main songwriters at this point in the group's history, according to multiple sources.

T. Banks is a little out on this one (we can all forgive him I assume), First time I've heard him miss that much..

Maybe the ARP has played him a bad trick with the portamento, there were no microprocessors in aid of the player at that time...

If buy this dvd, what is the quality of the sound????
jounimika 2 years ago
the quality of the sound is excellent. Some better than others, all encoded to Dolby Digital. I have other samples uploaded as well.
Tommygun1028 2 years ago
@jounimika
its actually quite good. considering the time, and stage that genesis recordings at that time were in, its a gem.
butcherbird52 2 years ago
i'm to young to have been there, but i bet gabriel era genesis live was certainly more intimate and dramatic.

Abso-freakin-lutely, pokerplum! Their two next albums (A Trick and Wind & Wuthering) still had some moments, but they should've call it quits then, in 1976.
Happy New One for all prog rockers!

when you don't have appropriate video material, sell it as a CD, not DVD. This sucks ... but Collins is great - on drums!
