  • I share her respect for the American Indians, an insanely cruel and bizzare way of treating our early arrivals to this continent. Shameful. I hope we are past this, but the remembrance of it is still raw, especially since some of my family members are part Indian, and do not live on a reservation, and have, like anyone else, contributed to society. Indians are NOT outcasts or a marked people, like Cain of the Bible.

  • ...great musician.... thanks for posting...

  • wonder who 'Carol' was?

  • @MrChubbleyWarner carole king her friend and james'.

  • Thanx......great song....

  • I remember her playing this and many others in birmingham 1983. Took me to another dimension. I was a teenager then. I guess I didnt completely waste my youth.....

  • I was listening to our National (Radio) Programme and the eulogy items to Stephen Gould. Jeeezus - the lyrics were crap!

    I need Joni - now!!

  • I like the way she croons ending song unlike live version.

  • When Joni Mitchell sings ♪♫Your kids are coming up straight. My child's a stranger, I bore her. But I could not raise her♫♪, she is actually singing about her own daughter that she gave up for adoption a few weeks after Joni Mitchell got married.

  • Joni Mitchell is fantiastic !! One of the singers who inspire me, vocal and songwriting wizardry

    Toni Lee x

  • Just more Joni magic !

Reminiscing with such imagery from her past and cobbling together a meeting in the chinese cafe with the famous song being played in the background !

All presented as a beautiful song.

    Pure genius !

  • An artist. A pioneer. fearless and flawed. The love affair continues.

  • I LOVE Joni Mitchell. She's one of my favourite singers.

  • I grew up listening to Joni, she was a huge part of my life. My children know about Joni and I've taught them about all the music of many era's.

  • Joni Mitchell is such an incredible poet...her music is a cultural contribution that is priceless. Thank you blackkendoll82 for posting, and thanks for the comments from the young folks who appreciate it too - you guys are obviously very special, sensitive people.

  • Joni is the greatest. Why the hell doesn't she perform anymore?

  • I think this was a real milestone song. I don't know of any other song that incorporates the lyrics of another songs so uniquely as this one does. Very creative and innovative, a dialogue that morphs into the song she remembers. She did this with Jingle Bells on River but not the this extent.

  • Love this song, carries me through many years of sorrow and triumph with my own son

  • thank you...didn't think i'd ever hear this song again since my album collection is long gone...good good stuff!!

  • Blackkendoll you got great taste in Music!

  • This song makes me cry it is so sad

  • Great song, my favorite of Mitchell's..."We'd be singing, 'You give your love so sweetly'" is from Carole King's "Will You Love Me Tomorrow." Mitchell and James Taylor sang backing vocals on this song on King's Tapestry.

  • @jpeyton62 thanks for that tidbit, I knew the song reference, but did not know the history ...very cool

  • Where is the live footage of Joni playing this song at Wembley Arena, in London, England?

  • Thanks so much for posting -- one of my favorites.

  • Not pathetic at all..i'm 28 and remember listening to this on my discman while in detention in high school (possibly close to your age, maybe 17) anyway, i'm glad to see the youth recognizing true art...check out the album "Don Juans reckless daughter" if you havent already, peace.

  • I'm 14 and I love this song... and I'm the only person I know from my generation, give or take several years, that likes and has even heard of Joni Mitchell. How pathetic is that? This music is so beautiful... it's hard to compare many current, contemporary artists and come up with anything decent. Ah well, they're missing out. Great song.

  • Same here. All the dimwits my generation are like, "But the 70's! That's old stuff!" when anyone with ears plus sense can tell that most of the better songs were written back then. I fell in love with Joni Mitchell when I found Song to a Seagull and For the Roses in my mom's old record collection.

  • Yep!! Those of the "older" generation in our 30's and on up, can only hope that those of your era will come to their senses and learn about (and listen to) awesome artists from the 70's and 80's. :)

  • Great to hear your young appreciation of Joni...esp this song!! I'm a musician myself (now in Austin, TX) and her material and songwork over the years has been incredible. I totally agree with your comments...and so pleased that you think so at 14! Good for you,

  • Not pathetic at all!

I'm 15 - I've been in love with Joni Mitchell ever since I first heard her when I was about 6 or 7... But I see what you mean. Only one person that I know has heard of Joni Mitchell. Everyone else is completely missing out and need better music... Anyway, just wanted to tell you that you're not the only person in your generation that loves Joni. There's at least two more =)

  • @productofstress I commend you , for your good taste and intelligent comment!!!

  • @productofstress keep it alive :) you have very good taste!

  • @productofstress I'm 24 an my mom played Joni for me and my sis growing up. If you are listening to music like Joni's then you are getting a good message. Don't let the modern world (greed and lies) corrupt you. Keep it old school and you won't go wrong. :) God bless!

  • @productofstress: That is wonderful! I also first discovered Joni when I was 14 (32 now), and hardly any of my friends knew Joni either. BUT, she is widely regarded as an icon by fellow artists, singers, etc. And she is certainly a legend now. Anyway, GREAT taste in music my friend. Keep at it!

  • @productofstress Spread the word...the womans a genius

  • @productofstress Im 15, and I've loved Joni since I was about 11. I totally agree with you. (: It's my goal in life to meet her! <3 I have some covers on my channel of some of her tunes too.

  • @productofstress be well...when I first heard Joni it was 1975 and I was a sprite of 11 in 1975 living in Beijing as a Canadian. My parents had a few albums and I came across Michael From Mountains.... Court and Spark followed. Joni's music, has been for me, a timeless treasure, through good times and bad, a friend that has stayed by my side. It is never too late to make new friends. Producto I have a feeling you will have a very producto life ! Peace & Love.

  • Thank you for posting this. Joni has seen me through years of tears and laughs. She's a true goddess.

  • yes she is...and no problem

  • I loved her eighties voice, so sexy and varied.

  • Damn Vinnie....you're my boy....

  • I don't think this is Vinnie.. I know he was on the album. (by the way this album I thought had a killer lineup) Actually this sounds more like John Guerin.

  • Wow, yeah you're right! I was under the impression that Vinnie recorded the entire album, but i just checked out Wikipedia and sure enough Guerin is on some of the tracks.I should have known it was him, it reminded me of how he played on Hejira. Cool, thanks for clarifying.

  • Oh, "yes i do i love ya" is actually called Street Light... fyi y'all ;)

  • "Yes I do I love ya!" I LOVE that one to! It's the most happy song!

  • The first time I heard this song, it shook me!

  • One of my fave songs off this album, next to You Dream Flat Tires, and the one where she sings " Yes I do I love ya!" LOL
