I thought "block of Ice" meant cocaine, but my friend says that BOI is a keyboard effect, that thing y hear at the strat of th album track. neat, huh?
@malkiebroon who do you like anyway? You definitely sound like a bit of a knob to me. Nothing has to be complicated about music to make it enjoyable. We all have the right to be individual. I my opinion Thee Oh Sees are a good band along with a couple of John Dwyers other bands, especially the Coachwhips who in my opinion are a great band. He's a real creative force and he has balls and attitude which is more than can be said for most bands.
@malkiebroon no the above is what shit garage is.......you know it requires some imagination. You hipster try hards listen to this stuff then bag britney spears or commercial music when they are just as unimaginative and repeatitive in their music as this shit!!! Get some brains.
@SirRandolphWinston 6 months to come up with that? yet again waht a twat, why go on to a bands page and slag them then wonder how people give you shit? i think you need to get yourself some brains, most good garage is low/fi with no melody fool!!
@malkiebroon your right i am being a bit hateful and scathing, everyone to their own music wise, i suppose some people like imaginative melodies mixed with creative insightful lyrics, then their are others who like banal repeative chords played to a bobby beat and crap singing of ultimately ambiguous lyrics meant to represent nothing, mean nothing, and inspire nothing but one of you mindless twats to buy an ipod and think you're alternative...ha.
@SirRandolphWinston why do you care so much. they're playing music and having a good time. why does everyone take such unserious shit seriously. do you think these guys care if there chords or anything don't meet your or anyone else's standards? no. they're just playing because they enjoy playing. nothing more, nothing less. come back down to earth and stop trying to over analyze shit that doesn't need or want to be analyzed. let music be and stop criticizing it.
Let me clarify, The Ohsees are the shit. I meant that it doesn't seem that hipsters would actually be able to get into garage rock. Since then my views have changed since the discovery of Vice magazine and their garage rock fetish.
postscript: whenever you're willing to take the massive cock out of your ass maybe you contribute to the conversation. With that said and all this objective genre bullshit aside, I would love to see them and Ty Segall play sometime soon.
So I'm confused, who did this first? As far as I can tell Block of Ice showed up on Thee Ohsees' "Master Bedroom..." album released in 2008. Where as Deuteronomy was released in 2007.
That is not to say it didn't exist outside of an album before the intel recorded it. Either way, I'm kinda partial to Thee OCS version.
Its an oh sees song covered by intelligence. Both versions are extremely good, the intelligence just managed to release it first. Although you could argue Can released it first cause the chorus is based on 'Connection'.
I just saw these guys at a free in-store at Permanent Records in Chicago and they played this rock gem. Scummy jagged guitar, bonehead drumming, a hook you could catch a shark with, AND a Can lyric bite. Lemme check my shorts...

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper cool band.
And I've heard a LOT.
My only criticism is that you need to be more creative with the vocals, meaning both are just 'dubbing' each other. Do like Throwing Muses use to do.
Wish you the best.
