  • I just got one of these as well. It's an off-white color and appears to have been that way from the factory. Mine is in excellent condition but does not oscillate. I'll take video soon and post. Mine sounds exactly like yours does - runs about the same speed on high.

  • that fan looks like the type of shaep when i buy them lol

  • good video

  • I'd love to get some more vintage fans! I only have one really vintage one, I'd love another 3 probably.

  • I had the same one untill I sold it on ebay

  • A friend of mine posted pics on a fan forum post to of Hunter fans like yours. They were in wall-mount mode, affixed to pillars and posts at the Minnesota State Fair. There were fans like this one with wood trimmed Hunter badges on the guards, the fans were this same off-white color.

  • I have one of those fans too! I'm sure that they came in both tan and black I've seen both colors. I bought mine at a garage sale years ago but someone had painted it red white and blue! I decided to just repaint mine black. As far as the ocillating part not working, have you tried tightening that big nub with the slot on top of the motor? You could make the fan not ocillate by loosening that and vice-versa.

  • If I remember right, one of the gears was missing or broken. I'll have to look at it again some time.

  • oops! I meant off-white instead of tan

  • hunters nothin better

  • U posted this video on my birthday.

  • I have the exact same fan and tan is its original color. It has the R&M/Hunter badge in the grille also. I use it everyday at work in summer and it moves serious air! Im thinking 1940's.

  • was it oiled?

  • I got one today for $50.00 at a antique store,it's black.

  • I think mine is supposed to be black too. Looks like someone painted it years ago.

  • A friend gave me a fan just like this -- it's model CG16 -- he found it in the attic of an old house he was rehabbing. It's the same tan and has the grille medallion with "Hunter" superimposed over a red script "RM" monogram. It works beautifully and really blasts the air around and isn't as loud as I thought it'd be. I'm careful where I put it, however, because of the huge gaps in the wire cage around the blades. I can't believe people and pets didn't get shredded more often...

  • i almost got one of these but didn't think about it.bad idea.

  • Boy oh boy, that thing would chop your finger up like sushi if it got caught in there

  • You think this is bad, look at my video "A very powerful vintage fan" :-)

  • oh i wode say so sense the blades are metal even plastic bladed fan can cut sense it running that fast. it woden be a pretty thing to see is far is i can say.

  • looks like the motor cover is missing.

  • i have the same fan and it runs the same.

  • What is it supposed to look like? I'll have to try and get the model number, if I can read the tag.

  • i had the same fan but it had a covered gaurd and someone painted it white but i donated it to the thrift store

  • That thing doesn't look too safe...

  • Right now, no :-) It is in dire need of restoration.

  • Once the owner restores it, it'll be better than any new fan.

As far as the guard goes, common sense tells us not to stick our fingers in a running fan!

  • Adults have common sense;children & household pets have curiosity & impulsiveness!

  • Funny, my dog knows to stay away from my older fans.

  • Nice fan.

I love the startup sound :)

  • It has that nice metallic, almost 3-phase motor sounding startup to it :-) I should try and get a better video, the mic on my camera custs out right during the startup.

Also to be posted soon is a video of an antique fan in my garage that is even bigger and has a 1/6HP motor. Probably the most powerful fan I've ever seen in the 14-16 inch size.

  • I have a modern high speed window fan from 2003, a Lakewood model HV18WR. It is an 18" fan that runs at 1550rpm on high.

For a smaller fan, like yours, that is very powerful for that size! I'm looking forward to it.

  • Oops, what I was going to say was, my window fan has a 1/6HP motor in it.

  • It might even be bigger than 1/6HP, I don't remember for sure.

Another thing is the original blade was missing, so I used a metal blade from one of those "high velocity" fans. I think the motor is a capacitor start 1750RPM. It starts up so fast that it nearly tips over backwards on carpet :-)
